Add +1 equivalent armors to the STANDARD prestige stores
-
Currently, armor equipment of any note is only available to faction members. The crafted ones which come closest to the basic (not advanced) faction armors, is top tier and extremely difficult to get a hold of.
This means that if your concept cannot find a home in one of the current factions (which have rather narrow focus, meaning they are not a fit for quite a few concepts), you stand at a HUGE disadvantage to faction pcs.
I know @Puffy will be all funny and say earn it. But for the casual players, praying you will one day meet a DM who wants to give you sweet loot, means you can likely go through an entire concept without ever coming close to having the same loot opportunities as a faction member can get within a few days.
Therefore, I suggest that some basic +1 armors (or similar power wise) are added to the current prestige stores, for the many concepts that are not a direct fit into the current factions available. Make them cost around 2000 prestige points for balancing issues, if needs be. They will still be worse than the Faction loot, but they will not be THAT much worse.
Unless it is by design, that the DM team wants EVERYONE to be part of one of the factions, in which case I have some suggestions to open them op far more.

Seconded.
Not everyone is going to Earn DM gear, whether it be from Playtime, timezones, or just bad luck.Faction gear IMO should be more Thematic, not just always flat better than other available DMless gear.
Also the Standard faction armour for pretty much every faction is Siginicantly better than most Fighter shop items, with the App rank Plates being a direct upgrade on the best fighter plate.
Meanwhile, pretty much every piece of heavy armour available from questing is at most Half Plate, which I believe is left over from when the Intent was that platemail be super rare outside the original factions, before it was made so you could just Buy a Mundane full plate from the tailoring dummies. -
You can get full plates on quests.
Fighter only gear is still great.
Faction loot is supposed to be better than the rest.

The difference is not that it’s better. It’s that beyond dm loot there is no Way to get anything beyond basic stater gear. So the difference atm seems to be either join a faction or have close to nothing. Is that intentional?
-
You can also craft some fun items, or buy them off a crafter.

Found at least one +1 armour recently.
-
If they are part of the loot drops, then that is more than fine. All I sought with this suggestion, is to present another option to get something half decent, beyond joining factions.

There's stuff beyond basic starter gear on quests.

There are also some sweet, thematic armors available from the bazaar merchants.

my understanding was that if you work for the faction even if not a member then the members can buy the item for you as a reward for services rendered. would need that member to be getting significant prestige to be able to do so though!

the armour if altered appearance? The VIP faction store (the one you can only open by being inside the faction, where you purchase faction loot from)
Everything inside that store.
However, there may be some minor exception to this and you should ask a DM about specific items. Defaintely, 100%, no uniforms - that is any item that you can equip that is not a weapon (but in some cases, the weapons are ALSO off limits)
We need to essentially split a very, very minor number of items out of some of those prestige stores into other ones, so that we could just say "Nothing from this store"
Then it would be much more clear.
Also, you -cannot- alter the appearance of faction armour.
