[No] Lobo /Dextar Jes'tar/ Applying Lycanthropy To Dextar Jes'tar
-
1). Human/Fighter/Lawful Good (Currently)/Level 8/Dextar Jes'tar
2). Applying Werewolf sub race as a Curse to Dextar Jes'tar
3). I want to make a story surrounding Dextar and everyone surrounding him as he tries to recover from the taint of Lycanthropy. I think this will be interesting considering his involment with many of the characters who remain after the events of the White Witch. The trust many have for him and the position he currently holds may make for excellent RP events. The ultimate goal would be to find a cure for for his Lycanthropy while. To do this he will take people with him on "hunts" for both Werewolves and ingredients that may be used for a cure. Specifically the Werewolves he will hunt for are the ones that tried to destory Nanthleenee's glade. Dextar would try and bring everyone who was close to her with him in this, even if there is now animosity between them. While on these hunts he will be assessing who he can rust, if anyone, with the fact that he has been turned and will help him find the cure. Being a smith he will get more into smithing silvered weapons to start helping hunt Werewolves with. He will likley try to start handing out these weapons to all his friends that he has left as a means to protect themselves, even if it just a simple dagger.
Another thing that can happen is that his friendship with the Order of the Astor can begin to deteriorate as he is confident that they will try to kill him as soon as they found out about his transformation. He will not allow this as he wishes not to die a Werewolf. He is afraid that if he does he will not be able to rejoin the cycle properly, and Nanthleenees nature may reject him for his taint. This can lead to him roaming around Eveningstar and occasionally harassing either Tiatus or Muric, or both with some PvP events while he is tansformed. Or mabye Dextar is wrong and the Knights of Astor, knowing Dextar to be a friend to them, and the light will try to assist him in his curse, possibly estranging them from their own order.
Dextar will also become more protective of Nanthleenee's glade, and may start challenging people who come to visit when they pay repescts. This can cause animosity to those who were also very close to Nanth trying to pay respects, mabye so isolated "incidents" occur as well if he loses control in anger.
He also will still have to deal with his duties while on the council of peers, as he cannont just abondon the responsibilities to the city that Sir Nicholas, Ottilie, and Nanthleenee all had trusted him with before they all sacrificed themselves. This open and visible postition puts him in the spotlight of NPC's as well as PC's, leaving him open to discovery by not just
players, though the focus is how he interacts with other players while on the council in this new
political landscape that is now shaping.Should Dextar be Exiled and on his own away from his friends, he may give up being himself if he does not get any progress with a cure. If he does so he will eventually start giving into the taint of being a werewolf and become a possible Villan. This would mount to him gathering allies and creating his own little feifdom while drawing new werewolf allies to him. This could lead to him being a serious threat to both the Heros and other Villans as he starts to threaten whichever is his next target.
In the end, Dextar will be unwilling to let himself die untill he is cured, leading to a more furosious side of him while he fights that will be uncharacteristic. If he is also discovred and the PC's try to take him down, he will either flee them, or if he cannot, he will kill them so they he may live until he is sure he can be accepted back into the cycle. Or he ends up just giving up asnd makeing hell for the players.
4). This is for my normal log in handle
5). This all stems from the Werewolf that attacked Nanthleenee's glade a few days ago.

He sent this to me but am unsure where this is even coming from.
It is an interesting idea but not one I am confident the player would enjoy. As previously discussed, subraces are going to start facing greater IC challenges and this possibly will leave a poor taste in some players mouths.
- "We forced this on him"
- "It's unfair to have a character treated this way"
Voting NO.

Ah, this must have been as a result of a brief one-off encounter in the cited glade, with an NPC of mine that accosted him and was subsequently defeated.
He may have suffered some scratches during the scuffle, but I wouldn't say he was infected with anything. -

Maybe let him RP the concern for a while, leave him hanging but eventually he finds out he is in the clear. So whilst his app is rejected, we don't tell the player so they can sweat about it for a few days and enjoy the story.

Voted yes.
I'm curious to see what Lobo can bring to the table if given the tools to tell this story.
And from what I understand, Mortui is putting in a Malarite Werewolf app. I bet these two develop some interesting roleplay as one tries to persuade/dominate/control/destroy the other.
-
They talked to me about applying for a lycan as a new character, and we chatted about how applications work, I gave them a few tips.
They then said their was another avenue they could take as they got bitten by a lycan in game with Dextar.
I said that would still need an application with all the same caveats, and advice. Also told them that applications for Lycans are -hard- and don't get hopes up too much.
I'm not sure they fully took in or understood what I was trying to get across about applications (not hugely surprising as they are supposedly a new player) After making various suggestions and emphasising the kind of things that would get DM interest and make a good app, they tended to give those suggestions and advice lip service, but not really go down that road and instead write a lot of blurb about what their character would BE, rather than what they would DO in game to make things cool and fun.
Didn't expect them to write a lycan worthy app first time, probably good to be honest.
holding off on voting until we know for sure.
-
Perhaps someone can talk with the player about how hard a lycan is to play to make sure he can handle it.
As for the app, its interesting. it wont be a natural born, for once. it will be someone struggling to stay hidden, to cure it, fighting against it. He's afraid he'll lose himself and lose his place in the cycle.
I'd say the Redwoods would accept him as is and would even push him (subtly) to embrace the spirit of the wolf. Causing him probably even more conflict. Cure? Embrace? He would struggle probably between the two great paths of lycans, Selûne's (less common but has goody lycans) or Malar (te savage, ebol hunters). Or find his own path. He can go for the tragic way and get corrupted by Mortui's wolf, or fight him.
Depends if the player is up for handling the subrace and understands the difficulties.
-
There is certainly a good amount of internal conflict with a turned, not born Lycan. I would argue they are more difficult to RP than a natural born one since they have less control over turning. Would involve a lot of players as he tries to learn self control.
But you're all making really good points regarding the heart of this, its a difficult to play concept that allows one PC lots of mechanical power, and Lobo/Dextar is a bit unproven in that regard.
-
I mean... I'm not so bothered about his "unproven-ness" more that, there isn't very much in there besides how they are going to roleplay things, which is what we ask for, for ECL 1 subraces, we'd need to see cool ideas for what they will DO in game, to make things awesome for other players (aside from how they will roleplay, everyone roleplays things, ECL2 subraces should be kinda like mini DM's, dming with the player client - we give them a POWERFUL subrace to play, in return, they make the server super cool fun to play on while there are no DM's to run events.)
By the way, this is also why I'm not too interested in Mortui's app. It';s pretty meh.

I can support this.
But a few scratches wont infect him.

You're definitely right there. Neither concept really screams "I'll paint the walls with my plots."
edit - I can reach out to them to extrapolate a bit more on their concepts, see if they have anything to say regarding what they will actually DO?
-
For now I'd think this app is a no regardless of the quailty or goals etc.

If the player wants to try their hand at a Lycan then can certainly app for one and L.A can do the reach out thing to help.
