If you had a personal DM..

Summon a celestial of notable power and appoint him/her the King/Queen of Arabel, maybe even Cormyr, then cue the conflict!
-
I would probably spoiler the spoiler spoiler, and in the process bring spoiler to spoiler. But then spoiler might get all spoiler, so that's probably not a good idea.
Option two: Go on an epic quest to find one of those nifty crystals that encompasses a wide area and dulls hostile emotions, set it up in Newhaven, making the entire area ‘safe’… saving it from the vicious unending cycle of destruction and reconstruction ad nauseum.
Culmination: Adam Steel, NPC Mayor of Newhaven in V5 :D

Snuggle.

Have various faction NPC leaders respond to their respective faction members, so plots dont die due to waiting.
For specific IC items right now… Create a faction or Support PCs associated with either Hullack half-orcs, Rift, or Demon.
Arabel needs enemies to unite against, and PCs in league with them can only be a good thing. -
I would ask for the creation of a noble house focused on social events. The estate itself would frequently host events. Some events could be on the behalf of nearly any faction that desires to do if they earn the House's respects. As long as the faction plans to make a socially acceptable and likely popular party, they would be able to host one eventually. Legitimate nobleman PCs, indulgent adventurers, and gentleman may find themselves in robust intrigue and indulgence. This arena is a representative combination of west and central populations.
That is not to say in these parties, that blood would not be shed in a proper formal matter-of-course. Especially if you dared to wear your filthy dirty armor like a scamp and tried to waltz around the grounds. This is where the elegant and showy are the rule.
I would be making a new PC for this.

With my current character, I'd do a lot of the same type of thing he's been doing, except more often. Can't really get in detail as I'm probably gonna try to do it, but I can say that most of his stuff involves less dm quests for him, and providing dm quests for others.
On a new character though, (a character I plan on playing someday,) I'd wander the lands, seeing great and mysterious things. I'd have the DM along so he might delve into ancient ruins and learn horrible ancient and arcane secrets. Catching glimpses of dark entities too terrible to describe. He'd write these into a book. Essentially a series of DM-run quests with the end success resulting in a new evil rare book that can be used for crazy stuff.
I've been reading a lot of lovecraft lately.

Nuke the setting; get something fresh in, even if it's just CoA meets Planescape/Spelljammer/Dark Sun/Al Qadim/Ravenloft.

Delay the wipe indefinitely

I'd correct the mistake I regret the most - I'd use their help to lead the shady half of the population on the server on a dark and dangerous quest in an attempt to revive a character of mine who died too early due to a stupid folly, and after the quest is complete, I'd switch over to the just revived character, remake the last ritual he did with the people who came along (instead of it being a lonely affair of 3 people like it was before), and then (perhaps after a one last quest/server wide event in which he would either achieve his ultimate goal or die trying), I could finally retire him properly.
-
I'd reawaken the Wyvernwater area with a nasty plot involving demons, Infernalist wizards, Corrupt Ecclestians, fervant St. Alubriens, desperate Mystrans, greedy-treasure hunters of the adventurer's guild, and a Pirate King who may or may not turn out to be some form of half-demon creature that wants to unite Toril with the Abyss, thereby creating a new layer for him to rule over. Maybe somewhere in there I'd include something about the awakening of Dagon (it's a port area after all) or Tiamat (there have been numerous dragons in Wyvernwater that simply disappeared when the DM dried up).
On a side note, I miss Thayans. Such a blatantly evil nation that can surprisingly do good things sometimes (though self-interested).
-
I 'd make a proper thieves guild, those need heavy DM support and very few managed to work for a bit. Smuggling, thugging, illegal loans (and braking limbs which goes along with that), burglaries for coin (only to promote goals which require a lot of it, for instance Robin hood handing it all to the slummers), bribes, and to promote the feeling that every character may be watched from that guild. Essentially a DM faction… I know...
-
I would get uber levels and gear of immortality, wipe all the faction members and their NPCs from the face of the server. Burn their HQs. And then I would plant pink flowers everywhere and introduce a stray kitten as Great General King Commander of the Stray Cats, the new and sole legal faction on the server.

Keep this serious and on topic.
-
He did ask us what we would do if we were allowed to do anything.
-
resurrect Sarasha Norieth and destroy the mages guild all the while laughing like a maniac and then get the elves outlawed since Amilia took responsibility for ripping the guild down to rubble
-
CREATE AN ARMY OF GOLEMS! Invade shadovar lands and while everyone is cheering how great I am for slaying evil i turn on the city as my character slowly slips down the slippery path of insanity and power hunger.
Also for the guy fawkes esq, i totally made a guy fawkes o arabel. But i had to take an extended break and by the time i was really back things weren't so bad. Kreswell was gone, council was being formed. So now he waits… Watch's and wait... Will he be back in V5? As an old man? Maybe he was actually an elf! Who know 8)

I'd roll a monk/palemaster/werebison. Because perks.
Yeah, I'm irresponsible.

I would make an epic adventurer involving a small group of people, using common/important everyday NPCs already in the module. Then build up the story by having the main group hire and use other players to speak with other NPCs, gathering information and going to rare far away areas to find out about forgotten groups who died off or the dark secrets of a faction. Then in a big server wide event I would have battle trough out the entire city spawning monsters with a few save points, which does not last long. Using the main group and the information they gathered to do a desperate try to fix thing and either have them all die trying depending on the other involved PCs actions, or have them succeed and aid the server mainly and have everyone win the day!
The DMs use in this? Mostly making hints and possessing NPCs for the players, while of course dropping down the odd monster to stir things up!
However, as far as I know. This is how DMs work any way, until RL kicks in
