Scripted Quests
-
I'm just gonna throw this out and try get the player base feelings on this.
I'm not a power quest train rider well not much of one anyways but recently i havent seen many sendings for groups to gather and do scripted quests. Is this a timezone thing or are more people out plotting and pushing goals?.I belive that these quests are a good way to meet other characters and find potential allies or enemies which can lead to interesting things later on.The dm's put these great quests in for us to enjoy and there are so many of them to enjoy and yet so many of them are never used are they too hard and resource use heavy that no one bothers with them if this is the case can anything be done to make them more used so that we can do them and enjoy them?.
Once again i thank you my fellow coa players for the debate that will ensue

difficult to go on some quests when so many pcs are new ones and you are a higher level.
seems that there has been a change in most common level range recently and in a week or two i am sure that the midlevel quests will start being hit again!
another thing is that with so many of the pcs being unknown to your character do you trust them to be reliable in a quest yet?
-
Thanks for the replies yeah i have seen a quite a few new pc's about and such like and not knowing what their motivations are it's hard to judge which ones could be allies and which could be potential allies and this where i think scripted quests can become a very useful tool but if they are only gonna to be used in niche groups by pc's who have been together since lvl 1 is this a form of eliteism?.I understand the risk v reward element all too well but is this a major factor in people deciding if the quest should be done and if if is should the quests be rebalanced so they would be used more?

I rarely make sendings anymore. I find any time that I do I get a big unwieldy group that results in either multiple deaths or failure, generally inefficient. I prefer questing with people either I or my PC know, but the sendings are still out there.
-
The "ooc quest buddies" or even ic quest buddies group can also be qhat scares new players away. I almost always make a sending for quests simply because there's so often so few players around that i want to at least give people the chance to join me, they can tell me to fuck off ic if their chars don't want to quest with mine, but if there's a new player on, getting on a few quests can make or break their first impression.

What he means is, we make statements along the lines of:
B-Rock: Who qwestin?
golw: Powerqwest time
gdardog: "herpin derp derp"
ErinEnsurance: "Duuur, I make a new character nows."in IrC. Saves tons on sendings and reaches a broader playerbase.

Please dont do this, seems to be one of the many reason when I log on, I find plenty of players on, but nothing to do and no one around

OOC quest buddies are lame and will net you DM aggro. You should always try to take along at least one person you don't know.

I could not agree with this more… except the cry part

So people are scared of making sendings for quests because of they think no one will turn up or because no one their pc knows and it might lead to pc death or because they are waiting for someone else to make a sending?
We have such a broad taste of gaming preferances on this server and thats what makes this place so great and i know scripted quests arent everyones thing but i do belive they serve as a good place to start so many things and provide so much depth to the server that its a shame that so many of them are underused.

One reason why I think twice about going to a sending made by another person is, am I looking to only do one quest when I want to go questing, or will this person bring more then one quest to the table. Sometimes its the former, but most likely its the latter if I have the time.
I don't have a problem having others join me, but a lot of characters don't like my rude PC, he's an evil bastard. Every once in a while I get a paladin or whatever, but then after I flaunt my evil self they get all Mighty and Holy up in my godless heathen ass.
I think that, when a small group doesn't make a sending its because they don't want to wait around for MAYBE 1-2 other people, in about a 10 minute wait.

In my experience that usually has the only result of killing the poor innocent passer by and give more xp and loot to the powerquester.
I can't think any other way to tackle the issue if not addressing the powerquester/questbuddies excluding their characters from DM events which I don't know if it's the proper way to behave.[AsomewhatRantingstatement]
Additionally, and personally, I think IRC is detrimental for those who are not activel yparticipating in it. And this should not happen since CoA and IRC should be two totally separated things.

Not many people play in our timezone to start with, so Neith and Z of the Night Jackal Company always make sending for our quests.
This is because 1) organizing all questing through ooc tells and PMs seems meta to me, and 2) new people are fun to interact with!
Sure you sometimes get a ninja looter, or someone who hangs in back the whole time, or a chronic smirker. But if you take several new people, usually at least one of them ends up being a lot of fun. Besides, your character becomes much more interesting to play when you can bounce your rp off of a variety of other types of characters. This way you avoid the same set of rp and same set of actions and reactions.
And you can always find someone new who is an absolute blast to rp with. The Night Jackals would not exist without meeting people randomly through sending for quests.

[/rantblahblah]Doing a lot of questing wasn't frowned upon iirc, it was the ooc arrangement of quests through "ooc buddy quest groups".

I've organized quests OOCly before, but it's really not as you think.
It was more along the lines:
"Hey, wanna quest?"
"Sure."
"Alright. Frosties?"
"Sure."
"Okay, I'll make a sending."
I'm always prone to make sendings, to give other people a chance to come along for the fun and interactions.
The only time I don't enjoy questing is when people just boulder through it without saying a word. I've been repremanded before for "roleplaying too much" during a quest, mostly by B-Rock.
-
Yeah I agree with Jagged. Sure you can pick up a quest buddy to start things off, but just let some people have a chance to join.
And quests are boring unless the RP spices it up! They should be enjoyable for their own sake, not just a means to an ends. The DMs put a lot of work into quests giving them twists and flavor.

I agree with most of this, in principle. I prefer to RP, and I prefer to make sendings so nobody is left sitting in the Adventurers' Guild staring at the ceiling while you're having all the fun. In practice, there's often the element of not wanting to hold the others up as they cut their way through hordes of enemies or hurry to the next quest.
There is, however, not such a thing as 'Roleplaying too much'. -

There is much that is wrong. How on earth do you expect to reach Levul Tin if you waste time with Role Play? You'll end up spending too much time IG messing around and not enough time leveling. In the end, you'll become bored with the character after only a few weeks and White Light it at a measly level 7 or something else equally pathetic.

When I organize powerqwesting, I mean strictly power qwesting. You typing your emotes is only detrimental to the total party's DPS.
