Caravans – QUESTION EDITED
-
i haven't one a caravan for over a month or two.. and at that time there were too many bugs with simply getting the quest and ending the quest.
haven't got around to trying it again yet
-
3,4,5,5(caster),7… que 20 elite bandits appearing out of nowhere despite a scout right behind oxen in a chokepoint killing them all and raping the entire party.
-
I'm terribly lazy. Can someone give me a bullet point summary of this thread?
-
- oxen are too stupid.
- spawns either way too easy or way too hard, no middle ground
- general bugginess of caravan system, either past or present
- more hassle than it's worth
- risk/reward ratio skewed
How's that?
-
-Spreading oxen between the party messes things up. Having one player able to take all is better.
-
- long travel times to the destination
- sometimes an oxen has too many packages making it heavily encumbered
-
 NPCs can't be encumbered.
-
I'm not up to date - but as I remember things, there were also always some characters for whom it would make sense to be out there scouting and fighting, but who'd ICly disdain dealing with the cattle. If dealing with cattle is a more central part of the caravaning now, it may be less attractive to any such characters.
-
 NPCs can't be encumbered.
Apparently the oxen can. It only happens when you open up it's inventory though. It's fine until you do that. After, they're permanently heavily encumbered until you take their packages away.

Yeah, something to do with being a henchman

This ..Also having it spawn a group of "normal" orcs that have 12 ab and hit for 15-20 damage per hit is rather off putting.

Hostiles spawning next to caravan is not helping. It looks like they are dropping from sky. It defeats the entire purpose of having a tracker or scout to look for trouble or rping any tactics moreover Oxens charge at them and gets killed
-
- Make it so one PC can handle three oxen. b)Alternatively one PC can handle all.
- Add option to tell the oxen to keep a certain distance like you can with henchmen. As it is, they try to stay at distance 0.5, which makes it difficult to move sometimes, especially if attacked from behind. If you could tell them to stay at short, med, and long (2,4,6 meters, I think), you could make them trail after you in a nice line.
- "Ambush" spawns are usually way too heavy. Make them relatively easy but also stealthed on spawn, so it is like one or two bandits trying to "steal" an ox.
- Make other spawns appear well away from the party so they can be scouted and plans laid on how to deal with the situation.
- Make it max 6 oxen on a caravan to avoid lag from too many things going on at the same time. (Not sure if that ought to mean max number of pcs in party should be six)
- I liked the idea of spawning a caravan person to deliver the oxen to, but perhaps a "stable" near the trading coster instead? A place to drop off your oxen.
The caravan masters who are selling interesting items is a nice touch that should be kept. I've organized a couple of caravans myself simply to be able to buy neat stuff from them. :)
I've encountered problems in the past with what seems like a requirement that the party leader must also be the one to take the job and deliver the goods. If the party leader crashes on the quest you get no pay whatsoever.

old system:
Long, boring, laggy, no real reward for all your effort.New system:
Never done one, no one calls for them. No one ever suggests it either. -
I really think that mabey… there should be both type of carvans to run.
Mabey the old vers of the carvan be a fivestar carvan run. Less pay is just because the fivestar are cheap bastards.
The new vers pays alot more. Since the Dragon eye trading coaster arnt cheap bastards. Then people who like the old vers can play the old vers and people who want to risk a bit more can play the new vers... Im actually going to run a carvan now.

my first caravan was with pree, logan(brutus), caston nefzen, and i think anen and one or two others, the trip was long, but i remember it was filled with a lot of interesting RP, I learned quite a bit about RP by following and watching, and inspite of it being long i had fun
i recently did a caravan with my new character..wow….it was kind of intense..watching those ox gang up on a winter wolf, we made it to the city with one player casualty..or was it two..but those ox were blood thirsty creatures, i think we made it with one of those battle hardened oxen to the city. got nothing for the caravan, but i did get to join others for the trip
and come to think of it..i rarely ever see people wanting to do the caravan
-
Alright… well that sucked... As we went along the stormhorns about oh... 7 winterwolves spawned literally ontop of the oxen and killed them before we could properly re-act. Also, were suppose to get 1000 gold per oxen when we get them to the city safely... Well when we did the quest we got about 75 each with a 4 person group. so 300 gold for the one oxen we got.
So to round it up. It may be fun RP but im going to have to invest my RP somewhere else because I lost to much gold to keep doing that. If the gold amount was fixed to 1000 a head like its suppose to. Id gladly with stand the random spawns right ontop of the oxen. Maby figure out alternative routes or something. A way to keep the spawns off of them.
Fix the gold amounts and ill gladly lead a carvan every day.

I led a caravan from Yhaun yesterday, which turns out to be in reality from Thunderholme. (That was a bit of a disappointment.)
We lost one of the six oxen, but still got paid 375 each. Great pay for a fairly easy job. I think the caravans will be very nice with just a little tweaking.
-
It was "easy" because of lag and the winter wolves didn't massacre us.
if we were the least bit unlucky, we would have been looking at t a total party kill on that one. Those winter wolves bite through army like cotton.
-
I actually lost that ox because I was busy setting up healing so that we didn't partywipe. The whole fight was a close call. I also know caravans can get way more dangerous too, it's a little luck based.
