See you guys - Magali Blackrobes
-
I wish to thank you guys for all the fun that I found in this server for the last 8 years. But today I had my worst day here.
I reckon it was nice to play an evil necromancer that made many enemies in her life.
But I really hated how it finished (to those that dont know it: I was attacked without any RP or chance to survive by Abraxthas and Amar - it was overseeing by dm Zool as well). I'm not a baby crier and I wish they can use all items that they stole from magali
I had about 20 pvps and I really wish to say thank you to
- Marati - my worst enemy in game
- Nuyrr - my best pvp
- Kley, Adam, Kane - That was a fun ambush for everyone !!!
- thanks for all the others.
Sometimes we spend a lot of time in the game … for what !? Someone to come and kill you. I would never do it - go invisible and kill someone casting a death spell - is it allowed ?! Yes it is. But would never do it and I hated it.
I love NWN and RP servers - this is why I'm moving.
You guys should really think twice before do something like that.
Best regards
-
Wut.
The point of the server is… to die. To have fun while you could and then start fresh with a new idea. If you were ambushed, you were ambushed. What's the point of an ambush if you know it's happening before it happens? I think everyone is really interested in you and your character concepts, why would you leave?
Dafuq.

Take some time away and reevaluate. Getting ganked with little context or explanation is unfortunate, but there may be more to it. Otherwise, happy trails – I wish you the best with whatever direction you settle on.
-
8 years? Who the hell is you?
-
-
Sorry to see her go- a veryinteresting character, fun to interact with. Take a breather and come back when you're ready. Just remember it's a game, and that everyone dies eventually. Hell, if you get an 8000 gold bounty you have to expect an ambush here or there, and imo, if you have a bounty at all, you're doing something right.
-
You actually played a very successful evil character. I'm certainly upset that she died when there were a lot of other things she could have accomplished, but to be fair, it was a -brilliant- end to a well played character. And the reason the end was so good was because of the time and effort you put into her.
So, I echo the other players, take some time off and re-evaluate things, but if you claim to enjoy RP Servers so much, you cannot ask for anything better than what you achieved; which was to create a great story that affected so many players, and that is STILL affecting players, even after death.
-
Sorry you feel this way, but I have to disagree about mostly everything you said. The PVP was perfectly legitimate. there was plenty of role play involved, much of it before the actual assault. You were even given a helping hand by a DM before the assault, involving the bluff skill of your opposition. And there was no 'invisibility death spell' tactic used at all either, which may have been implied in your wording up top there.
I actually enjoyed your character, I also gave you a fair amount of DM support during your characters life span, IC, and OOC as well.
If you feel wronged that you were 'given no chance to escape' (which I personally disagree with anyway) Perhaps try to look at it from the other side of the picture as well. As you logged out just after being defeated in PVP, this is very unfair to those that defeated you, and those that were chasing you down, and it was a bit of an anti climax for everyone you had been entertaining thus far.
But don't worry, I handled that part for the players that may have otherwise felt cheated out of an achievement.
I hope you don't leave the server, and, as I said at the time, you had a good run, got a lot of people talking about your character, and the offer is still there to help you concept another character. My advice would be to try one less conflict driven based on this experience, however.
There will be consequences for the cheating, though, I'm afraid.

Indeed! That was seat of the pants stuff there…. I salute you. Sorry to see you go like this.

It speaks very much for your fellow players on the server that they respond so reasonably and levelly to your somewhat knee-jerk reaction that you wrote in anger and emotion.
When we play characters we skirt a fine line: if we get too attached we begin incorporating too many of our own character traits into our characters and we begin taking death - PVP death as well as others - personally, rather than as part of the game.
When we don't get attached enough we feel distant and cold, and it becomes hard to portray an interesting, dynamic character. I can't tell you how often I gave up a character I liked out of frustration or how often I quit (and came back to) NWN out of frustration over a petty PVP death, a character loss or a denied application - yes, I am childish like that. That's why I can safely tell you that your reaction is unwarranted and furthermore, that your fellow players and DMs are being extraordinarily understanding, perhaps far more so than any of the players or DMs I interact with where I usually play.
Take a week off, a month off, whatever. But don't let these things get to you. They're just characters. All stories must end. Maybe your character's tale ended - but he will remain a part of the server history. He will live on as someone else's accomplishment.
The highest duty of any villain is to be taken down by a hero. That's why we play villains! We take part in the great conflict, and is in all stories, good, eventually, wins.
And feel free to ask for tips on how not get ganked; as a wizard there's a lot of tricks you can pull that can make you a very difficult target. You won't know these until you actually lose ten, fifteen characters. But eventually you will learn them. A freebie: when being hunted - and even when not - try to never go anywhere without preferably extended defensive spells active.

I tried playing villains in the server two years ago, when i first started playing. i got really pissed cause no one wanted to kill me, my cult got destroyed, and my char was left alive. :P
Imo, Magali is the opposite of that. She was a loud "win" villain, and I would be proud to have a 8000 bounty on my head. Villains are important (more than heroes) because they bring action to the server, and I think Magali brought a lot of action to many people.
Thnx for playing her, anyway, even if you're not coming back.

My last few chars
Magali Blackrobes
Bernardo Lightbringer
Jharko Serafina
Tracy (Zhent)
….
...I thank all the community - Be sure that I played close chars to most of you.
I will uninstall nwn from my pc in next few days - i might just log in and talk ooc with some chars that i had fun last months
My opinion - if you want to kill a char - you have to earn it - I wouldnt mind to be killed by Marati or any member of mage's guild (I was expecting it), by nuyrr, by the sheriffs ...
I hate the idea "her head worth 8000 so I have a good reason to kill her" ...
I wont argue with Zool - because I know DMs spend a lot of time trying to help us .. to aid us ... (I shall send you a private msg)
Today I attacked two members of mage guild - If I was sucessful I would take a staff or make one of them a hostage ... I would try to make them to have fun !!!
This is the matter - to have and provide fun !
Another thing is ... This game is a pure RP game - it's not easy for non-native speaker to play in Arabel = so stop mocking when someone make language mistake
I also want to thank
Danton - Endan Tusk
Dav Norieth - Kdr220721
Thea Blackrobes
Mr GentlesDMs
I really appreciate your hard work - Be sure you guys are the reason that Arabel is always a good place to visit- congratz
Deadlock - my favourite DM !!! (not even sure if he is around)this player is drunk and pissed off
--- Cheers ---
-
I'm really sorry to hear about all this. Your character made mine fun!

I don't know how the whole thing occurred but having had my first 'impact' character FD barely a week after having managed to earn lycan in game i understand your frustration as it was exactly how i felt then.
However, with regards to the statements above; both of these are the same thing aren't they? you managed to piss the factions off enough that they put out a bounty on you for someone to claim as they themselves were never able to get close enough to you, or weren't good enough to achieve it?
If they aren't then is there any point having the factions offer bounties on anyone ever is the point i am trying to make, their is usually a greater bounty to be claimed for a prisoner than a dead pc to try to avoid this but even so you will get characters that you have never seen in game coming after you.
I had almost no interaction with your character, certainly none after you became 'wanted', but even so i will miss the player as well as the character if you do decide to leave. Take a break and then come back with a concept that you can again engage with as effectively as you did with this one?
-
I want to respond to this since i am named by name.
At no time was anyone who took part in your capture invisible. I seem to recall us talking for good 20 minutes before we headed to the place we intended to strike at. We even buffed in front of you to at least give you the chance to escape. A DM had been notified of our intentions and the reasons for the attack, a full day ahead of the attack itself.
And to say it was without reason is just insulting. There were -4- fully valid reasons for the attack, the bounty being the least one of them all. I cannot go into details on all of them because it would be a spoiler to many involved but i can send you every single one in a PM if you so wish.
In the days before the attack, Magali was given the chance to cooperate with those that attacked her on an issue very important to that group. She refused, preferring to remain a lone badass (and I will not deny she was a badass, all the people looking to kill you means you were doing a lot of things right), but a lone badass is vulnerable, which proved her downfall in the end.
And if it is any consolation, one of your enemies blackmailed us into doing the deed, even though we had -3- legitimate reasons for it without that, so in the end, you -were- taken down by your enemies, they just used different tools than you expected.
Instead of asking us the reasons you assumed it was done for the 8k bounty, which was only the icing on the cake. You could have asked us what the reason was and we would have responded in kind.
At NO time was there any invisibility jumping, any death spell used, any lack of RP before or after the attack, so i find such accusations insulting to those involved.

Things are never as they seem.
While you may believe this was done with no cause, or for "mere" gold, it was not the case.
Alot of things happen behind the scenes, all the time. You are often not aware of them, or miss that little tiny detail or hint that would eventually be your undoing.
Magali's enemies merely found what button to push, in order to make her own allies turn against her.I know the players in question here, and I am certain they had the best intention to conjure some great RP out of the situation.
You were out-eviled, and thats how I see it.Take some time off. Figure out a new concept. Get back on the horse.
-
Well.. That sounded like a slightly anti-climatic death for a successful villain. She could have been given a bit more spotlight i guess.

I'll double this. One of the beauties of Arabel IMHO is that mechanical power only takes you so far. I've lost count of the number of times I've lost in pvp, because I didn't control the diplomatic game well enough. I also know a little about Magali's sitaration IC, and I can tell you that there were ways you could have made deals to get you out of that alive. But take heart in the fact, that nearly all us old timers have died to backstabs too!
Also PvP death can often be tense and stressful, just take some time off, play other games and then roll up in some silly gnome or other light hearted character for a bit when you get back. Just remember this sorta of thing always looks a lot less unfair after you've had time to chill and see the other side of the story.
-

She didn't die. She was subdued and logged out. Most of the player's complaints are invalid because they cheated the other players out of that RP time.
If there was anything anti-climactic about the death, it was because the player logged. Had they stayed in, they would've had an AMAZING scene, that instead, the DMs had to play out.
So, really, if anyone cheated you, it was that you cheated yourself, Magali. So, seriously, go take a breather, come up with a new concept, and we'll see the next great thing you came up with.
-
CoA playerbase is just way too nice and understanding- understandable, nobody wants to lose a good player.
But it seems pretty clear you cheated them out of a deserved victory. You didn't even know what would happen. They could have let you go; maybe the DM would have created a distraction; maybe someone would have broken you out of jail. There's thousands of things that can happen very quickly.
I don't know; these things should probably be kept to an email or something. If anything this thread makes OP look bad, deservedly or undeservedly. PvP courtesy doesn't just apply to the attacking party; the loser also has a responsibility to keep things fair and fun.
