Hey guys, whats the story?
-
Its nice to stumble upon this place after a year of absence from the fascinating world of internet and see its still going. WTF is happening with these forums though. I am not a big fan change, unless its in the form of pocket money.
Are there still players online daily? What kind of factions are rolling about? Is anyone doing anything to find a successor for nwn?
-
Factions haven't changed much in the past three years. Still the Sheriffs trying to run town, MG holding central, CoG steaming away in the slums, Harts being kicked to Eveningstar and East Way/Easthaven burning to the ground for the n'th time. Two new rebel/antagonist factions are up in the past year too.
Lots of players still in. We see 40's on good days. Everyone has moved to Diablo 3 and LoL. PvP/Hack n' slash is the new NWN.
-
Theres a v5 being developed, though thats as far as the info goes on that.
Still folks online, not as many.
Theres the ever-entrenched Red Harts (now in Eveningstar), the Mage Guild, the Sherriffs, and CoG. Potentially new to thineself is army of undead/monster dudes called the Legion parked out north of town. -

When has this happened? I don't recall seeing 40s for years now. But yeah not much has really changed too much unless you count all the boring faction wars and doomsday plots.
-
Then you've obviously not been looking closely wildcard. We've had 40+ loads of times actually.
-
Aren't you banned?
:D
-
Banned!?
What ever would lead you into such a wicked conclusion! ;)
40's, thats a nice bit more than I was expecting! Might have to crawl in game one of these days again. The call of CoA is strong as ever!

Hello Koririn ^_^

Waiter! One strong Koririn here, please!

Why are you even here then with such a negative attitude? It baffles me the animosity so many on this forum are showing these days. I'm not actively DMing or playing myself just because my life is busy, but seriously–if you HATE Arabel so obviously, why stick around to insult it and the work and players involved on both sides of the curtain.
There's an old saying about problems and solutions.

I can't speak for others nor would I but I know a lot of it seems to stem from disillusionment with the server (staff and players) as well as the genuinely apparent lack of direction within the staff, apathy/lack of time of both sides of the client to carry through with what's begun and perceived (and real) lack of forward progress on things in general. Not assigning blame, not making excuses but these tend to be the things I hear a lot.
Version five isn't a magic bullet or a 'clean slate'.
Point blank, there's a divide in faith and trust here and nobody's bridging it because we've all been put into this little model that says things need to be done a certain way. When that system gets broke and people want instant gratification (or progress of any sort) they get quickly disillusioned. A very easy example would be the waiting game between the Harts and Legion. And please don't force feed me that horse shit about the war between the Legion and Harts being at war. They aren't. Period. Full stop. There is no blood shed, there is no fighting. One side has -had- an advantage for a long time and has been stalled by DMs from acting on it.
Those of us who've been in the DM chair on any server with a population greater than 5 understand the amount of prep time and IG drain it takes to get things going. But that doesn't change the fact that without -active- and -engaged- DMs, things won't progress on this server because this is the way the server has been structured. It's a flawed system and it doesn't work unless the overseers are keeping tabs on the system which undoubtedly winds up being little more than a sink hole where time (and I imagine fun) go to die whimpering deaths, berated by players who don't understand what kind of bastard job you guys have.
This is just the way I hear things, some of the things I see first hand and my own assessment of the situation. On my server, this kind of lack of progress eventually lead to a dead server outside of a few (read 3) hardcore veterans. Unless things change pretty drastically (as in say more stuff like Abby's post about the shards) and things are finished up, I mean who's going to be around to give a good damn about this place any more?
I know I don't any more but I don't want it to -die-.

Well, honestly Katherine Stoneriver, I don't know what's going on in game. So I'm hardly going to forcefeed you anything.
That said, some people are being confrontational and not being helpful. If they want to see something happening, talk about it politely and bring it up calmly.
Seems to me, that what's happening is lots of people are just not being constructive. You bring that up yourself, players who obviously don't understand what DMs are doing are just judging and complaining. Then here again, you focus on what you don't like (seeing a lack of activity) but don't really focus on what you want to see happen.
I see a lot of negativity reading these boards, but very few people saying, hey–what can we do to help because here are some things we want to see happening. The focus is only only on what people don't want to see happening.
And if you don't give a damn, seriously. Go. What are you a sadist?!
Again, that old adage about solutions and problems. Has your post made anything better? Nope.
Could it have. Yup.
Need more people who are unhappy to ask a few questions.
1). Am I having fun here?
a). If yes, how can I add to it and fix the unfun stuff I see.
b). If no, why am I here just dragging myself and everyone else down. I'm one of the unfun things here.I see a bunch of you guys on this forum. Makes me sad. You guys suck. (Not saying this to anyone in particular, especially not Katherine, but I expect you know who you are already.)
-
I'll suck less if you start carrying my LoL games, Mr. 1350 elo.
-
I know, I could stand to be more constructive and I'm sorry I'm not. I write these posts whilst at work so I get distracted/off track quite easily so I try to belt out what I've got to say as quickly as possible–
And just a note about my rambling; I wasn't directing that comment at you in particular, just in general.
Ah, customers. Back later!
-
Nah, I love you guys. Its why I came back after a long break to say Hi.
Just wish the attitude would turn around a little.
And my ELO will just keep going up BG. Haven't played many ranked games lately.
-
Come back, Kor! Who else can get an app for a Ghaele passed? :P
-
Stop derailing my post. Its about sunshine, rainbows, unicorns and happiness. :) The good thing is that I seem to recognise everyone answering this post so far. That's nice.
-
Hey Kor, if you do start back up, shoot me a PM. Your stack of concepts probably dwarfs mine, but I wouldn't mind a sounding board for some of my ideas.

it's him! OPEN THE GATES!
