Character: Orville Carrow / NE / Rogue/Cleric
Applying For: Wererat
Concept:
Orville Carrow is a natural born Lycanthrope, from a long line of Lycanthropes. The subrace will be a tangible vehicle through which I can channel the core concept below: A physical family curse. He's a filthy, conniving, gutter street prophet with a heretical faith to spread...
Goals:
The concept revolves around establishing a group based on a heresy of Beshaba who believe bad luck is hereditary, that family curses are prevalent and you inherit the karma of your ancestors. In this heretical interpretation, adherents subscribe to the notion that misfortune is a near inescapable burden, casting an enduring shadow over their lives unless severe action is taken.
The only way to break free from this supposed hereditary curse is for followers to transfer the accumulated bad luck to others. This involves intentionally causing misfortune to 100 innocent individuals, with the belief that by doing so, the ancestral bad luck is shifted away, allowing the practitioner and their family to escape the perpetual cycle of ill fate.
Orville aims to expand the influence of the heresy by actively recruiting new followers. His goal is to convince individuals that their misfortunes are linked to their lineage and that salvation lies in embracing the tenets of this new look Beshaba.
I'll look to set-up soft PvP, an example of which would be hosting casino nights where the odds of success are slim to none - billed as just pure bad luck as opposed to massaging the odds.
I'll then engage in more hard line PvP such as muggings, inflicting more bad days than good on people.
Subrace:
I think you can see how the subrace will play into the core concept and how I can use it to enhance it.I intend to be transparent about the affliction as literal evidence of familial curses.

Hi. Hope all is well. I hear congrats are in order for number 3?!The only thing for Lycans on CoA js they are always afflicted not natural so they don’t have have perfect control. You’ll need to provide a trigger of two that force a change/shift. I don’t have a problem with the family “curse” being afflicted for story purposes and fun though. (edited)Hangman — Today at 9:24 AM
Ahh, the curse doesn't have to be afflicted in reality - the character is just going to use it as a representation of how bad luck follows families. (edited)Professor Misclick — Today at 9:25 AM
The lycan is afflicted is what I mean. Not natural.Hangman — Today at 9:25 AM
Ah right!
[9:29 AM]
Triggers- Genuine bad luck. Any instances where Orville suffers genuine misfortune will be a trigger. The emotional toll provoking a n uncontrollable response.
- Dishing out bad luck. Whenever Orville inflicts misfortune it'll serve as trigger, as almost an overspill of joy (I'm going to genuinely try and create 100 instances of inflicting bad luck on people, every time I tick one off I'll shift)
-
Admitting to being a lycan from the get go would mean the pc should be killed on the first day. I don't think the misfortune idea works that well on a lycan if it's meant to be inherited and as Prof said lycans are inflicted.
I'm not interested in the possibility of people going soft on a lycan, and this invites it cause no one wants to FD a player on day one and it won't be a fun story for anyone either in such a situation.
Half-orc, cansin or tiefling would fit better if he wants to go with heritage misfortunes. Then his pc isn't going to get murdered day one either.

good point
cansin especially would fit better than lycanplus i'm kinda worried about limited playing time, since he stepped down as a storyteller due to arrival of new baby

Yeah, a conflict heavy concept with a lot of pvp isn't very fair if availability is an issue

Hey, so the team is discussing the app. Some of the concerns that have come up so far are:- Lycans are afflicted, so wererat doesn't quite make sense with the heresy. Something like Cansin would make more sense with the heritage angle and the gambling
- Since your availability is limited, and the concept is very conflict oriented. There is the question if it would be a good idea to have such a pvp and conflict heavy concept.
Hangman — Today at 15:42
Spoke with Prof about the afflicted. I'm fine with "he got infected, which is just typical, bad luck after bad luck."
I'll look to manage any conflict to coincide with availability. I'm happy slow-burning it and building the Cult / Religion.
Its much easier to find pockets of time when it doesn't need set-up and other people's availability. -
Voting no:
- Conflict heavy, not a good idea to have an conflict heavy app PC when you know your availability is poor
- Lycan doesnt match the character idea very well, and again is conflict heavy
- Open lycan is a bad idea
-
No movement on this for a bit and I would generally advice against it, thoughts?

I really dont see it. Nothing about this says "werecat" to me.
I intend to be transparent about the affliction as literal evidence of familial curses.
Bad idea. Will be KoS to start with. Not fun for him. Not fun for others to be forced to go along with it.
I still think this sounds more like cansin than werecat.

Agree with the comments from Echo and Puffy.
-
Also agree with Echo and Puffy
-
before I let Hangman know, how would we feel about this app with the change to Cansin?
I really dont see much wrong with the app as it is, it would be pretty time heavy but thats up to Hangman to feel out.
I think this application applies just fine to Lycan/Cansin. I do agree with echo/puff that it fits -better- with Cansin.
Once I have yalls opinions ill respond to Hangman
-
it were cansin i'd vote yes
-
Cansin sure. Has the player been talked to at all? I have a message from him from a few days ago but been too busy with travel and work to do anything about it.
The ECL + 1 sub races are supposed to be an easy app anyhow and this far exceeds the ask.
-
Maybe give him cansin and a shapechanging tool he can use?

Not much movement on the app, and the concerns raised remain so far. Will let you know if there are any updates
Knockknock — 15/11/2023 09:15
I'm going to start tonight, can pull the app and I'll play it as a human. There's < 5 people playing the game though, the reluctance to move applications on is startling.
Puffy — 15/11/2023 09:15
People are just busy
