What got YOU into CoA?
-
I discovered it after playing on a much more casual server for quite some time - and I remember hitting the recommended button on a generic dwarf just to see the sights. My first ever experience was the orc slum invasion triggered by completing the Hullack quest trilogy.
I marveled at the PC involvement in this event that someone soon after told me was a fairly common occurrence, and I've been a regular (Off and on) ever since.
My first PC was a human rogue who would intentionally lure people out to quests to die, so he could loot them. (I was 16 and mega-bad)
That was, damn… 10 years ago?
How about you guys? :D

Id ben looking for a roleplay server for a while, and most of them were either annoying, filled with drow or with players who would just kill new players. Then i found CoA, roughly about the same time as you. My first trip in was with a Half Elf Bard, called Izal Fendorn. It was when someone attempted to burn down the half orc friendly bar in the slums and all of the PCs were delivering water to it to put the water out.

I was bored with being a DM on an action server, very fiew of the people wnted to RP anything, it was -all- about leveling up and getting the loots.
I dont remember how I found Arabel- may have been a random web search looking for RP world.
been IG almost non stop since that first day. -
CoA had the most players, first time I came on, I made a halfling beggar who pretended to be a child. Xhal, prominent monk at the time, roleplayed with me (it was the first interaction I'd seen ic on any server in NWN so far). Not long after that, some people took me on the Kanthea quest and I hit level 4! (back then, many quests didn't have the same limits on levels as they do now, and you could basically hit level 10 in a day by having a buddy take you on Kanthea and abusing a few exploits).

I was looking for highly populated servers on the list at the time and I was just firing like a bullet through all of them trying to find one I liked. I think I started back in 2012 when I was 13 or so. I was a nooblord who didn't understand anything about anything. Pretty sure my first character was a half-orc with a messed up skin color and a moniker in his name. I ran around for two hours straight trying to figure out what quests there were aside from Shira's Dog and then a Blind Varlet supporter dude picked me up to quest. I think I ragequit that character after I died at the Hanse Tree quest a little while later. all in all a success

My first PC was a half-orc named Thunk. He was named after the sound he made after he fell out his mother's tummy. I joined with a buddy of mine who is a DM in EFU now around 2006-7. Ever since then, I fell in love with the setting and the playerbase.

Probly about 8 years ago I clicked the highest server population on a persistant world server which turned out to be CoA.
I then proceeded to make a Cleric of Lurue with healing and death domains (it honestly said this was fine on the website back then, I think the DMs were trolling, and got me good) I then started creating multiple characters and droppping gold in a SUPER SECRET corner of a street so my cleric of LURUE (I had no idea about any gods) could buy a full plate and tower shield by picking up all of this gold they had 'found'…..
I was then magically teleported to a strange place called the DM Chat area, and presented with a large black dragon.
I almost pooped my pants.
Then it said -
"Hello, you seem to be having trouble with the rules. Do you know what I mean?"
I dropped the plate and shield, and started begging them not to eat me, thinking I was roleplaying. The DM was pretty cool and explained a couple things then sent me on my way.
Eventually I made a real Cleric of Lurue and started giggling and talking about dragons, despite this, some awesome players took me in and much fun was had, until I was turned to the dark side by enjoying the hell out of some people sacrificing my supremely annoying cleric of a Unicorn god to Tiamat.
Good times.

I clicked on high pop server to take a look rolled a elf sorc called Amyweig Veln.
Went from the gate to the market asked the first person i met where to go they told me the adventurers guild and pointed her in the direction.
Went there asked a halforc that had just come out if this was the place he then demanded all my gold she ran away screaming for guards and 10 pc's turned up,had some great rp and i stayed. -
Years ago, too many years for me to remember, I started playing CoA before my age was even in the double digits.
I stopped for some reason that I can't remember.
Three, four years back I bought NwN and tried out CoA, been playing it on and off ever since.

saw a canon world name and clicked in back in 03, and then clicked again and again and again and again. I had to know why this place was full.
I got in and made my fighter, first pair I run into, lo and behold a set of blue twin hins, Tink and Taliya Edgewise. The I realized they were blue, and ghostwise. I had to find out why. -
Came here because it seemed a more realistic setting (as FR goes, anyway) compared to the high level, free subrace servers that were around. Stayed mostly due to viruz83, smirnoff and khamal getting me involved in stuff while I learned to get on my own feet in CoA. After that, I just stayed.

My brother and his friends played on the server 10 years ago and loved watching him play both when power gaming and doing plots.
I remember my brother and his friends had to "return" a finger to a pc who had attacked the banite temple with all the attackers dying except this one pc (the time limit was 7 days). The pc apparently knew something was on and always ran buffed inside the city so when the last day came one of my brothers' mates stopped the pc because he "needed" an item identified. The pc stopped and he showed the finger (the pc's finger) and then my brother spammed phantasmal killer on him and they hurried away with the corpse. Then one of his friends from that time started playing 3 years ago and I got interested in playing. Started out with Vidar the Gauntlet obviously a banite :D

I used to play p&p D&D with HardcoreSamster, elektrizer and a few others but I didn't get to properly rp while playing since half of us weren't interested in that side of the game.
Elektrizer found the server 2 years ago and told Samster and I all about the Sheriffs, his adventures and rp he was getting to do. We instantly started planning our first PCs, Bungo and Glumo Stratz, to jump in and mess around. After an hour of laughter-filled Skype calls we received DM xp for telling Sheriff Nox we had been yanking their chain because we had wood for them.
And so I was hooked >.> -
I remember when I first joined the server I went on the Caravan Quest and on my return I kept the Oxen and used them to attack a PC who just happened to be a DM. This caused them to be faction bugged so the Adventurers guild guards swiftly ended his life. I then took his super cool scimitar and book collection.

My buddy Zombiemiker did actually.

I was having a revisit of Neverwinter Nights after the band I was in split. I finished playing the OC and all the expansions I had, wanted to play more then noticed the previously ignored Multiplayer button. A few clicks to familiarise myself with the server lists and I saw a familiar name from pnp source books, Arabel. This was my first encounter with multiplayer gaming outside of lan games with a few mates. A week later and countless hours spent wondering: why do I keep dying to vermin? Where are the +5 weapons stashed? and How do other people send me those little messages in green text? I was well and truly hooked.
Cheers guys.

A friend and I just finished playing all the campaigns and wanted to play more, CoA was the first Roleplaying server in FR setting that I found.
-
my cousin was playing this game years ago..and i liked how you could dress your characters, like a paper doll kind of thing
when he was finished with it, he gave it to me because i liked the doll and dress up aspect of the game
then i tried the game, was really not to enthused by the single player, never really tried it, but i did click on the multiplayer part and eventually tried CoA, i was a terrible drama queen at the start, and can be from time to time still i suppose
i whinned once on how to have fun in the game, someone came back with a comment, make something you like and stick with it..so i did
past mistakes i have made RP "what do you mean i do not know your name…it is floating right over you when i move my cursor over your character"
-
It was one of a few set in the Forgotten Realms.

I remember that cleric of Lurue. ??
I found this server after trying out another RP server and encountering ooc rudeness that drove me to look elsewhere. I clicked on CoA because it had the highest numbers at the time. I roled a Halfling wizard named Danu and plopped down right in the middle of an Orc invasion from the slums. Danu was killed multiple times, full looted, then arrested by Loony's purple dragon for counter looting the looter who had gotten fugued by that pesky Orc army. Loony was super cool, explaining the ways of the force to me in short order. I fell in love right then and there. I played that character for about 2 years and had a super time. Danu was mechanically the worst possible combo of classes ever, but character mechanics didn't seem to matter so much as far as having a good time went back then. I had epic fun with the group of players that were around then. When I play CoA now, it is because of how cool people were to me all those years ago. It could even be said that my long lasting affair with this server is solely because Loonaya took the time to be friendly and helpful on that very first day.
