My Dumb Moments in COA
-
Describe a funny but dumb moment that happened to you on COA.
I was playing Asmiru and we rested, then forgot to put his full plate back on and got killed. I was level 7, back down to 5 -_-

A while ago a Lumomancer threatened my Sharran cleric and I decided to demonstrate how darkness could snuff their light out…..in the middle of the gilded district.
I lasted about 3 seconds against the Wyverns and elementals that stood guard around there.Lesson to learn: If the spell has a negative effect it will faction bug you if it hits a neutral npc.
Speaking of faction bugs; I didn't realise how large the AoE of caltrops were until it was too late. I shouldn't have been throwing them around in NPC populated areas >.>

Yeah, my dumbest (also most embarrassing) moment was like that, during the war between Arabel and the Knights of the Red Hart. I was conducting rituals as Vigor. I also had this piece of loot could cast Hammer of the Gods. I was stuck over on the KotRH side, after being released from jail by Arabel, and I couldn't go anywhere else, so I thought, "Eh, I can do this here. After all, they negotiated to free me as a hostage."
I used the Hammer of the Gods spell as kind of a visual effect for my ritual and learned pretty fast just how big a 20 meter range is. Everything in the market area of West Arabel kicked my ass in a heartbeat, Fugue-ing me in under five seconds.
D'oh!

I think I've done something worse but one of the latest things that come to mind is where my banite Zbug is walking towards a certain area to induct a new member to his faction through some evil ritual.
On the way Zbug speaks of how Bane leads him to the place (divine intervention blablabla) Then he and the soon-to-be-member miss the BIG ankheg hole hiding behind a tree and it instantly paralyses him whereafter his mate dies and Zbug with him… Apparently he didn't preach well enough for the Black Hand >_> (it did end well though as Bane was watching and they were both revived later) -
Mine was also like that, even more silly.
I was playing Dayne, the fivestars merchant. Another PC told me that there was a guest waiting for me - a PC I knew feared a certain other PC (necromancer) to death. I happened to have similar robes plus a skull mask in my stock, so I put them on, sneaked out of the backdoor, and came in from the front door. I had drank an invis potion, and ment to cast darkness to dramatically appear right behind him.
As I casted it, I found out that those guards have really, really high AB and don't like necromancers that appear suddenly from darkness. Also, darkness has quite a large area.
I was laughing so hard I thought I'd die as I was in the fugue, getting tells from the PC as to "what the hell happened"

I needed a small fur once and killed a rat in the city hoping to get one. I think it was Phoenix Legion guards that were nearby and came to the rat's defense and kicked my ass.
I've done the thing where you forget to put your armour back on about 5 times.
I've accidentally sold valuable items to Flannigan for 1gp a few times.
Basically, every time I play is a blooper reel.
-
I had a ring of planar binding (11). I tossed off an evil mastermind speech and used it. The outsider killed me and my partner.
I was getting lolz in tells from my victims. For the next three weeks.
God, that was embarrassing.

Wrote inspiring poster to attack Orcan Warlock in the Hullack.
Thought "Smitten" was a better word than "Smite"
Ended up with rumours of my PC proposing to the Orcan Warlock in the Hullack

Rage at this game… no real time moment that just dumb moment that happens often enough

Ok this is hilarious :-)

my elf scout is generally weaker in melee than most other characters (even though I took two weapon fighting instead of rapid shot) so usually I hang back to snipe from a distance… to help with this, my character has sneak attack. So I recently learned that sneak attack has about 30' range, meaning when I hang back, I'm usually missing all of my sneak attack damage on hits. My character has advertised himself as selling weapons to be able to fight special enemies with various resistances, like undead, but in a recent trip to Myth Drannor, against Yugoloths in particular his weapons were constantly saying 'ineffective'...
So I got some sweet loot, but in general my character is not very surviveable hp wise or loot wise and is not offering much to the party... (he can find traps and open locks but that's hasn't come up lately) so is kind of a moocher... added to that, I can't seem to sell any of my extra loot really... and then after I dump some sweet loot that I decide I no longer need and am tired of carrying around in the charity chest, someone posts a seeking for magic boots of which I had just dropped TWO pairs of rather good boots... I was hoping to save some things to give to others in times of need, or in Old Town to simple folk or something... like something like 5 magic slings i'd picked up (that seemed to be useless against the yugoloths) so I dumped those in the chest too.
So I guess my character is having an identity crisis, in that he (as in I) isn't doing his job etc very well.
On top of that, a useful thing about being a rogue is the use magic device skill, but I've rarely worked enough to afford to pick up wands to use to help myself or the party, and my chr penalty is large enough to make the skill significantly lower...
OK one more dumb moment... I was thinking of rp'ing sparring with an elf character, who happened to be an agent, that he kind of liked... and hit her with a stick! I thought it was like a 'sparring staff' that would do no damage... but it was not... so although the staff only did 1 damage, +4 str and 1d6 sneak attack made it much more significant... and so, Kai got hauled off to the Pit... after escaping, losing all his equipment, he changed his name, and stopped making sendings because they would always say who he was... afraid to take some quests in maleen's tower, because of like 'saying your name' or what not, and Afraid of being thrown back in the pit.
He wanted desperately to go to the grove in the maze, but all his solo attempts (not using potions of invisibility mind you) ended badly, even when i had tracking to get a hint that something big and bad might be close... all the other nature types that were helping him with woodcrafting or learning stuff in game have pretty much retired / disappeared. O_O; The Tir'Annundor is gone, the Druid Circle is gone...
I'm glad he's still alive, and I enjoy playing the character, but it is sometimes somewhat lonely...
I as a player am clumsy at the keyboard sometimes when doing other stuff, so like, when i try to type rp really fast it comes out garbled and confusing...i'm sure I have more dumb moments, but I don't want to think about them anymore right now.
O_O;I think some of the great fun I have is sometimes just watching other people's characters and stuff... there are some fantastic roleplayers on here, and there are some people with excellent skill with character builds and doing combat that walk through danger like a hot knife through butter... so even to walk in their shadow is pretty cool, sometimes...
For a character who does some things in the shadows, staying out of the limelight is sometimes good, too...

Oh oh oh!
Artio had started as ranger, and she had a wounded cougar as a pet.
went to the Stonelands with three or four people, and had to log while they were diving up the loot, so
went through the portal, trunded in her ears and Logged, leaving her cougar right on the portal.Logged back in to find out the rest of the party had been tpk'd by the cougar and the npcs who went into full offensive against her.
ouch. Still Sorry about that.

When Kastle (me) and Atrokk Stomcleaver went with a few others to do toy shop:
Kastle "Its just a toy what could possibly go wrong"
Artio "but its a dragon"
Stormcleaver "STORMCLEAVER!" charges in
Dragon "what? Oh you bitches done fucked up now, you woke me from ma nap"Never the less we all died at least once and all for one, yes that's right, ONE gold

Played a barbarian Wyvern Auxiliary in the mage's guild. My arch enemy was a half orc barbarian who was getting away will all kinds of crime and murder. Challenged him to a one on one manly duel and if he won, he took my magical great ax, if I won, he came with me to the tower in chains and confessed to the crimes. I won with 1 HP remaining and proceed to drag him back to the tower, where I was accosted by the ebol Tychian group who had apparently recruited this particular half orc to their cause.
Magically managed to pop enough potions to survive the onslaught, incite a massive battle in the Eastern District and down most of my enemies… only to get blitzed in my weakened state by the Tychian NPC's who came rushing out after me as I was tying up the group. The mage guild novices rushed me to Ranzor and raised me, to which my barbarian for some ungodly and poorly thought up reason, immediately road blocked and laid siege the Lady's House for an hour.
When the Ebol Tychians came out to mock him, he proceed to call a charge and killed one of the group before he was overwealmed and downed by a bunch of Tychian NPC's and the living members of the group. Apparently what followed, was the rest of those in my party charged after the WTF wore off.
The story ends with Maleen burning my body to make peace with the Tyche faith. I still to this day do not know what possessed me to attack a temple in the middle of the city.
