Questions about the new Metafactions
-
Im not a huge fan of the idea of the silver bannermen, i know it makes things easier to manage but why would someone who wants to be part of house Maleen join the bannermen when he knows he will be taking orders from the wyvernspurs too. If he wanted to work for all equally, wouldnt he just join the Wyrmguard instead ? I think the idea of each house having its own suppy of manpower was much better.

You have to impress all three factions before applying to be a retainer.
No pressure at all.
Then when you become a Maleen retainer, you can rage on those Wyvernspur guys you pretended to like as a Bannerman.

You don't take orders from Wyvernspur. You take orders from the Viceroy.
The idea of the houses having their own supply of manpower typically led to this:
1). House X wants to go quest, they get the same group of PCs who always go quest with House X. DMs are sad because a limited number of people are getting involved.
The new idea, if followed properly will lead to:
1). House X wants to go quest. They will find any of the active group of PCs who are in the Silver Bannermen to go quest with them. DMs are happy because a wider number of people are getting involved.

I like the idea of the meta-factions. Remember you do not have to impress all of the Houses, if your going for Maleen you just have to impress them. Think of it like the Three Bars PC factions use to work. Everyone there was generally in basic agreement that the law of Arabel was bad. Within that, some would work to join team Bane or team Shar. Etc.

I really do understand and like i said. I can understand the neccisity of making it that way. But the reality of it is i think People will feel pressured into taking orders from retainers of houses that are in oppostion to the house they want to join. Purely because a bad report from the retainer could bar them from ever joining the house they want to join.
But from a game standpoint the Silver bannermen make sense
-
Oh, Zakius, if House Y wants you to join a bad report from House B may actually BE IN YOUR FAVOR.

I think it's a good introduction to political intrigue.
You want to show your support for the crown officially as a non-faction player, you join up with the bannermen. I find it plausible that the viceroy would put the noble houses in charge of managing the force of armed adventurers. I would assume they're not using the bannermen to do things that the viceroy wouldn't approve of or at least if they did, that wouldn't be walking a thin line. It doesn't mean that you won't do some thing grudgingly, or badly or not at all if the wrong retainer tells you to do it. It doesn't mean you won't go on some mission and then go tell your friends in the faction you actually like all the details and secrets you learned about the other house while doing it. It doesn't mean you don't have faction friends who are gunning to get you in their house and not in the others. It doesn't mean you won't get thrown out if you do these things. It doesn't mean a faction player wouldn't get slapped around for telling a bannerman to do something the viceroy wouldn't approve of.
This is a framework to share plots and information and getting a group of people more involved.
I voted for there to just be a hat that your wore on your head that announced what noble house you had to join instead of the whole thing, but nobody listens.

The system is a frame, and it looks sturdy, nothing complicated. It looks promising, very promising.

So far this "meta-faction" thing is proving very difficult to join. The Faction and their allies have Cliqued up and tend to ignore joe adventurer. My PC has made it known that he wishes to join the Silver Bannerman to at least one PC from every house and the answer is always the same. "Find a Retainer that wants to sponsor you and get a task, after you complete that task you'll be made a Silver Bannerman" End of conversation and they walk away.
This process has been rinse and repeat, it seems like all the factions want to talk about the bannermen but as soon as someone tries to get involved and join, all of a sudden the retainers don't have time to deal with the adventurer and send him/her on their way to find someone else who is willing to deal with them. Unfortunately I'm not the first to say this… others have brought this up and given up on the idea altogether. I hope the chaos settles soon and it becomes either easier to join the metafaction or more open up, especially considering all the events the houses are running are behind closed doors and invite only. Its creating an air of "if you aren't one of us you don't get to play with us" kind of deal.

I was not approached ICly as of yet by your character and if it was done via the forums then I am sorry if I missed it. Would gladly handle it IG when we are both on.

It was… you gave me the advice to find someone willing to sponser me and then directed me to the Marliirians after making a bunch of intimidate checks. you are a very nice guy OOC but your IC PC is a dick to be honest. No hard feelings though. ^_^

It wasn't difficult to get a task. Now trying to get people together for it, it's the harder part.
-
I am available IG for stuff, just try to ring the bell in the Palace and if one Retainer is not to your taste pick another ;)
-
Or join a player faction hums innocently

Well, pretty soon there will be a way to join that bypasses PC faction members because it isn't UP to them if you get in or not. The DMs want this EASY to do.

Just to clarify - those of us who have already started our tasks (I'd say I'm about 60% done) as assigned by PC representatives can still join THAT way, right? I'm far enough in that I'd like (both ICly and OOCly) to see my tasks through to completion.
-
Also, kinda depends on which house you approach. Some seem to be exceedingly hard on recruiting, others not. Try talking to different houses.
It's kind of silly how hard some stuff is being made to be done - especially when half the people are quite annoyed at the process.

Meet with Marco IG and we'll work it out together.

When the none player dependant method to get in goes in (hoping to put it in by the weekend) you can still join via a player, and it -should- be more fun, technically, as a scripted version is always going to be the same (though you'll only do it once)
It should be the easiest faction to join in the history of CoA!
Dunno what happened! It'll be easy soon enough.

I still enjoy RP and player run events to scripted stuff, it just seems very difficult as it is right now. It could honestly be that the factions are still in chaos from being newly formed and they don't really know the full process because I know I've gotten a different explanation of the SIlver Bannerman from everyone I've talked to. My understanding was that it was meant to be adventurers not part of any faction who form the main pool of people the House's go to for extra bodies when they need something. Kind of like "Registered Loyal Adventurers"
Some retainers have described it as this while others describe it as being the first step in becomming a retainer and nothing else, kind of like being a novice before becomming a guild apprentice but you belong to whatever house recruited you.
What it feels like right now? This is high school, the app factions are the cool kids, and you are trying out to be part of one of the popular cliques. Hopefully this is just a mis-interpretation on my part but there is a small group of us that has gotten that kind of feeling so far from the crowd, including people within the in-crowd doing their best to try to change that. This is starting to almost make it feel like you can't be an independant concept anymore like you /have/ to join a faction if you want to be part of anythign or be involved.
