Quantity of playtime pwns Quality of RP

I just have to say regardless of how much play time someone had,,
It only takes one encounter to jump them and take the pieces they spent so many hours on gathering. It's not like the plot was so rushed that average joe couldn't find out who was holding what and devising a plan to get it off them.

.. And if it's in character to do so? I mean.. That has little to do with the original discussion, other than pointing out that people seem to invest a lot of OOC "what I am entitled to" into what actually transpires IG and IC.

No matter how "important stuff" (DMplots, server-affecting things, player plots, etc) is done, it will ALWAYS be the case that those people who are able to be on more will be able to be partake more.
The "DMless" type of stuff nicely takes the time-zone element out of it.
Whether people with limited amount of time want to spend their time "chasing after" relics and such is up to them. But after all, those people with limited time (such as myself) will always be making that sort of decision.
With my time, today, I can do ONE of:
Do i quest and get back my levels?
Do i socialize?
Do i get involved in public discussion?
Do i get involved in fostering faction-factoon politics?
Do I chase relics?in V2/early V3 I used to play some 30-35 hours a week. Then, it was easy, do it all. Now, one has to choose. Mostly, I choose to find and do whatever those people in my selected group happen to be doing.
I try to be able to get involved with cross-faction stuff… but to take the time to realistically fo that never see my faction buddies other than in our forum.. so for the most part it's been IC suggestions... and ome others have taken the time/initiative.(BTW, this is not a Rant, just a statement of what is)
As I said initially, I think this will always be the case,no matter how "important stuff" is "delivered". The only way around it is to have restricted plots. And that would suck for everyone else, along with being slightly odd.
As I think it was KiY said.... somewhat surprised it's even brought up.

I think being able to complain about great features in a very active server that has enough people to seriously compete with is a blessing in itself.
I know I would be interested in finding the missing keys of king tommygun the 5th whether I won or not.
Too bad I argued with someone cranky and demanded my own ban.

This is a classic Damned if you do, Damned if you don't moment for the DMs.

This is a classic Damned if you do, Damned if you don't moment for the DMs.
That's the only option we are ever presented actually.
-
While I like the fact that you dont need dms, I also like it when it isnt so much about who is online the "First reset after the announcement".
Now, this is not as much regarding anything in particular, but I have quite a few examples of this through the years.
That said, I like the fact that I dont need to constantly pester a dm every time I try to further my plots.
I cannot imagine the dms ignore players who consistantly involve other players anyhow, they never seem to have in the past.
-
Quantity of playing time will give you more option to further plots, DMless or not.
Actually DMless plots > DM plots due to the fact that you don't have to rely on a DM to push it.I like the new system of plot-pushing.
Obviously those with more play time will be able to push more plots but a focussed player can push a plot even if he plays for a couple of hrs a day.
Now about the quality of RP we can discuss, I sometimes had good RP sessions while looking for "reagents" "relics" and or "artifacts" and I had disappointing experiences doing the same.
But this little has to do either with timeplay (even if there might be a slight correlation –> little play time, I might need to sacrifice part of my RP in order to obtain the plot item) and with the DM/DMless plot style.

Moloch, you are thinking "You no longer have to go through bothersome procedure X". Some others are thinking "I can no longer use method X."
But but but! It's not like the old way of doing things isn't done anymore! In fact, it's still the most common.
The DM Team just has a new tool that allows us to front-end much of the effort it takes in setting up plots, allowing a more even playing field in terms of time zones (among other factors.)
It's not a perfect tool - perfect tools don't exist - and we're still trying to learn what works and what doesn't. but everything that people are saying in complaint about DMless quests applies to DM-run quests too!
As for the suggestion about staggering the stages of a DMless plot, it's worth consideration but a number of problems occur to me right from the get-go. And the suggestion of not giving any sort of announcement for DMless plots - we do that sometimes, too! In fact, I'm pretty sure the first ones we ran were like this, such as with the Skull and the Radiant Chalice.
(What's that? Most of you have never heard of that plot? Well, now you've learned one of the down-sides to unannounced DMless quests.)

Having loads of playtime has always been an advantage in CoA, it's unavoidable.
-
Just think of CoA as an interactive book, where you care a tiny bit more about some of the characters in it, and enjoy the ride, stop bothering with winning or losing. The servers awesome, everyone wins.
-
I can't get into most plot cuz it seems I can't be here when they finish. Happens all the time.
Dm, or Dm-less doesn't matter anymore to me. I'll never watch anything finish, I won't be around.
But as long as you like your character i really don't think it matters all that much. Well to me anyways.
-
It's one of the advantages and disadvantages of a 24 hr server. It's always up, and those that have more time to play will, well, play more. It's the same thing with levels, gold, loot, crafting or what have you. The more you're on, the greater the chance of finding "x" or being in the quest for "y". Never really mattered if it was a dm or dm-less plot, those with more time tended to be included the most. If you can only play a bit now and then, you can stay fairly up-to-date through the forums, and possibly make the things that are set-up ahead of time, but will miss out on most else. It's just the nature of the beast. Some can spend more time in game than others, and it's the way it's always been.

This is good! "Adapt, Overcome and Improvise"
The new DM'less plots are a great addition to the arsenal.
