Your Favourite Fantasy Books

Good to see somebody else read "Amber" (the book, not the whacky typo-laiden…er...maiden).
Surprised that Joel Rossenberg's "Guardians of The Flame" series hasn't been mentioned yet. Of course, you'd probably have to be in your 30s at least to have read it. Karl Kullinane and his happy bunch of slave-freers. Great series that focuses on a group of gamers that get transported into their fantasy game realm by their twisted DM.
Piers Anthony's "Split Infinity" - but just the original trilogy. After that it ends up much like the rest of PA's series', way too long in the tooth.
"Mists of Avalon" was a good read too.
-
I'm sad to see some of my recent favorites haven't received a mention yet. Perhaps I might entice you to check out a couple though.
Joe Abercrombie - First Law Series
Read it simply for one character, though the series itself is amazing. Inquisitor Glokta remains my favorite character in fiction, and I'm sure you'd all love him too.
Peter Brett - The Painted Man
An enjoyable little demonic apocalypse novel with some interesting twists.
Scott Lynch - The Lies of Locke Lamora
Take Oliver Twist, add a small pinch of high fantasy along with a dash of Ocean's 11, and you've got this little beauty.

@The:
Xanth
This!
And Discworld prior 2004, and all the Nine Princes of Amber books (for obvious reasons), and though not many people admit to liking them, I really like the Chronicles of the Raven.
Ooh and the Earthsea books!Edit: I stopped too soon. I forgot David Eddings. The Belgariad and the Mallorean have to be in here.
I actually find that once you've read one Eddings series, you've pretty much read them all, though I prefer the Sparhawk ones.
-
"Hero's in Hell".
C. J. Cherryh and Janet Morris.
They also both contributed to the "Thieves World" series which i also liked.
-
C. J. Cherryh excellent writer generally, but my favorite …
Chronicles of Morgaine, really excellent characters and original story
-
Marion Zimmer Bradley's 'Avalon' series.
-
Perdido Street Station, The Scar & Iron Council by China Mieville
The Wiedzmin saga and Reynevan Trilogy by Andrzej Sapkowski
Malazan Book of the Fallen by S. Erikson
La possibilite d'une ile by M. Houellebecq
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by H. Murakami
The Book of the New Sun tetralogy by G. Wolfe
Viriconium by M. John Harrison
-
Luminary already mentioned it, but the Lies of Locke Lamora is a really good book, just finished reading the second one in the series.
For Wheel of Time fans, the new book written by Brandon Sanderson, who took over after Robert Jordans death, has recently come out. Brandon Sandersons other books, Mistborn and Elantris are also really good.
-
Marion Zimmer Bradley, Mists of Avalon, Darkover, Light And Shadow (not sure about the right tittle, nor the tittle in english)
Neil Gaiman: NeverWhere, Anansi Boys, Stardust, Sandman
Tolkien: Lord of the Rings, Silmarillion
Dragonlance!
Terry Pratchet: Discworld series (a shame I've seen only a few in my country)
These are some I can remember….

I really, really liked the Chronicles Trilogy and the Legends Trilogy from the Dragonlance setting. I haven't read them since middle school, however.
I read lots of those books about Drizzt too, although I didn't enjoy that character. I just liked the Forgotten Realms setting.
-
The Hobbit (not The Lord of the Rings)
And although I own a hundred other fantasy books, I just realized that I probably don't like the genre that much. There's a lot of novels related to D&D universes I've read and enjoyed, the Drizzt books, a bunch of Dragonlance books (none relating to any of the famous DL characters though), of which I loved The Last Thane.
-
The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.
Due to the Forgotten Realms Books, I'd say R.A. Salvatore's books are the best ones. He describes the fights so well.
-
i forgot wheel of time…i stopped reading after about book nine because it seemed like jordan was just taking the piss...how's it going now?
Book 12 was released but I'm so bogged down with grad school/comps reading that I havent had time to read anything fror the sake of reading in over 2 years.
Maybe after graduation (August)
It's uh…. faster paced now, that's for sure.
I found it a bit too much of an extreme the other way, though I can understand why it's suddenly all "KABLAM!" (fourteen major plots end suddenly).
-
Malazan Book of the Fallen by S. Erikson
We have a winner
-
Dragonlance,
The Darksword Trilogy,
(Much better than it sounds.)I've also enjoyed Eragon and Harry Potter.
Chronicles of Narnia
-
Glen Cook - Tales of the Black Company (and his myriad other works).
Steven Erikson - Malazan Book of the Fallen.
Everything by Michael Moorcock.
Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle.
Selected works by Umberto Eco: The Name of the Rose/The Island Of The Day Before/Baudolino.
Listen to this man….
this pretty much sums up the last books I've completed reading..currently getting through the Steven Erikson Collection..only few i would add is a thumbs up for terry pratchet. every single discworld book has made me chuckle.
and David Gemmels Troy trilogy. Its not Druss but its still good.
-
The night angel trilogy- an absolute must, amazing characters, the first book is a must read.
Magician- nothing need to be said
the name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss- his main character is very vivid and his world is beautiful
The Witches of Eileanan- amazing fantasy story, complex in world and language and well rewarding with amazing characters and a stunning world, adventure, suspense and magical moments in every corner
Jennifer Fallons demon child trilogy and Hythrun chronicles-
Amazing characters and a nice flare for plots and intrigue. -
My top favorite fantasy books of all time are all seven of The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. I've read the entire series several times already, and plan on reading them again.
-
Twilight ^_^
-
Umberto Eco is an amazing writer, Baudolino and Foucalt's Pendulum being
personal favorites. The Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In terms of Forgotten Realms… anything by Paul S. Kemp - namely, the
Erevis Cale, Drasek Riven novels (Chosen of Mask, etc.).
