Flat rate for item appearance changes
-
Can we make it so there is a flat rate for armor/clothing appearance changes? I think 100-200 gold for item appearance changes would allow players to customize their appearance a little more easily.
I found a robe with % damage immunity (which many items have now since it is worse than flat DR unless you are taking insane amounts of damage) and NWN values that very highly, so it was going to cost almost 2000 gold to edit. I really think that's a bit high just to improve the aesthetics.
It's a 2003 video game and people want to look cool.
Please?
(Of course there are certain items where the appearance shouldn't be changed, I'm not advocating changing that)
-
Yes please. Please, please, please. I thought it would be fine until I saw that modifying bronze armor went from 4.1k to 2k It seems unnecessary, really.
-
It should be only 1/10 of the original modification cost.
It used to be GP_VALUE*2 now it's GP_VALUE/5
if it's still costing 2K that should be reported
So it it used to be 4100 it should be 410 now -
But the game overvalues properties like damage immunity % which are now very common in gear and arcane spell failure reduction. Thus the cost of modifying these robes/armor will be very very high. So if a crafter managed to make a mithril full plate it would cost boat loads to change the appearance.
The item I'm talking about gives 10% piercing immunity and +1 saves v. Mind affecting. Cost to edit was 1770.
-
So an armor with no stats and an armor with cool stats should cost the same to modify?
How much should that cost?
-
@Echo Imo, just make it flat $ depending on its armor type regardless of its stats
Cloth - 200
Padded - 250
Leathers - 300
Hide - 350
Chains - 400
Breastplate - 450
Splintmail - 500
half-plate - 550
Full-plate 600Something like this
-
I'm placing @Zool in charge of this.

Ok then! - So, what I reckon is, we put a cap on it.
So, there will still be -some- level of scaling, but, it can only go up to a maximum of (Insert player suggestions here) - I know what I would cap it at, but let's hear what some folks that make their armours look cool a lot have to say hm?
-
I would say a max of 1k, it is on the verge of expensive but also puts a value on getting your outfit done.
-
is it possible to have two max spending levels? A much lower or free in the starting area and a 500-1000 for the one in Clover Market?
-
+1 to Orin's suggestion. Make the initial starting area appearance NPC be absolutely free so you can at least look snazzy with your starting gear. Afterwards, you can pay to use the design if you wish once out.
-
I like that idea, actually. That initial appearance thing can really do a lot to get you into a character, and help others do the same.

I'd be 100% on board with that personally, makes a lot of sense- wouldn't be a problem to script I either.
Now, what about your ideas on the cap- seen Puffy's, but they are an evil DM, what about players ideas of the cap?
-
1,000 gold seems fine imo. Especially if it will be available in the starting area with dyes(maybe?). 1,000 gold isn't that hard to come by now days and that is the CAP.

Just make it a variable on the NPC which can be changed.
-
A cap of 1000 seems fair. Expensive enough where it's still a luxury but not totally out of reach either.
-
I vote for a cap of 500! (I know it's not a democracy) We're still talking about multiple useful potions that you'd be giving up.
-
Maybe a cap of 500 on helmets and cloaks? (Can we even change helmets and cloaks? Lol)

Not currently. @Zool 's project.
Cap of 1k is fine. Fashion is expensive, after all.
