[Tiatus writes this letter in his quarters upon a candelit table late at night. Not pleased with what he has written yet knows what it is he must do in case of more dire circumstances]
I write this in high hopes of ideal outcomes but precautions must be put in place. As you likely know, Sir Nicholas has sustained some troubling injuries. He is my brother and while I know his heart to be true I worry for the clarity of his mind. I would follow the man through the endless abyss and rip open the heavens to fight the gods themselves if I had to.
Know that which I say is not a command. It is a request where you must decide for yourself how to proceed as -his- squire.
I would ask that anything sensitive in nature that anyone would have business discussing with the Asteri be sent directly to me for review. Should someone specifically request Sir Nicholas and I am not present, yourself or Jadzia would represent the Order in our stead and give detailed reports directly to me where I then at -my- discretion share with Sir Nicholas.
Should he still be seemingly unstable yet politically present, do what you can to point him elsewhere so that the reputation of both him and the Order stays in tact. His mind may be weak yet his heart true and his blade even more so. Combatively he is still adept.
He carries the reforged blade to bring a brighter dawn for the people of Arabel. A New Dawn. Keep a keen eye and remember the importance of such a weapon and for it not to fall into the wrong hands at -any- cost. As his squire I am most certain you know which activities he indulges in, these would make for good distractions to keep him at peace. Help him master his reality, remind him of the truth especially when he believes it otherwise. This could mean to him certain events have yet unfolded and even worse, friends he believes to be alive. But do -not- bring up the dark past. Should he bring up a story, listen to it in it's entirety no matter the case. Should the story be accurate, it would prove some manner of progress.
What I have suggested not only is for the betterment of the Order and our church but it would help the burden that Sir Nicholas now carries. A result of what I have asked dismisses him of needless responsibility where he can dedicate that time towards more important matters such as his recovery. Jadzia enchanted a ring to aid in ones mental fortitude and has said it aids him, though I believe even magic to have it's limitations with such an injury.
I know what position I have put you in and do know it does not bring me satisfaction. You wish the path of the knight, you will learn to face such trials. I await your response..
The light is the way,
-Dawnknight Tiatus Thornwind
