What to spend gold on?
-
Fivestar used to sell Fencer's Footware (dodge feat) for approx 1200gp. Those were great and should have sold for 5000gp. Same thing with Venom's Twin shortsword (1d6 +1d4 acid) for approx 1800gp. Selling great items at breathtakingly steep prices will soak up the gold.
Another idea would be to sell level dependent lightweight items like rings and amulets (so if you fugue they won't weigh you down). So an amulet of +2 natural armor for example for level 7+ for 10,000gp. This way if you fugue back to level 3 you won't overpower the quests.
-
AC+2 natural armour is worth about 500 coins because of the availability of better amulets that let you resist elemental damage and barkskin potions which make such +2 amulets of zero practical value, on te other hand you used to be able to buy amulets like 20/fire, you could easily sell those in shops for 6k coins and they would be snapped up
-
I'd buy amulet of natural armor for 10k… so it being worth about 500 is ... nonsense at best.
-
CB, most players here don't ever get past 5k during their entire careers. 10k is not a reasonable sum for an average player even for a much better item.
But even if all of us had 10k in their pockets, i don't understand why +2 natural armor amulet is that great. Care to explain? -
Another idea: Expensive tool with charges that allows a Crafter to scribe a certain amount of designs before being rendered useless. I rather have this, which will require more PC-to-PC interaction over buying them somewhere. This can also spark Master-Apprentice RP.
-
bark is dispellable, amulet isnt. amulet is active even if you are ambushed too.
personally i am saving constantly to be able to afford higher level wands, gems and after that rare loot.
i dont see a time when i will ever have enough gps to provide me with my wands of stoneskin, imp invis, polymorph etc being as they are 6-9k each crafting price. there is always a bigger item to buy if you have the coins!

I think my Mist character was the main gold hoarder. at one point it was 27,000 gold.
First the why then a list of suggestion.
I decided to play Mist as a hard core pure rogue. By day two I had bought up all the greatest Rouge items, that seems to be roguish; Assassin Suit, Crossbow of Murder, Soft soled boots, Soft gloves, Rogue's hood–-> Latter found a better Rogue's Hood, And the Armor amulet from the Rogue himself.....This was all bought day two of her life. Ever sense then She never really bought anything, Maybe a few potions here and there needed.
Close to the end of that she donated 10,000 to the poor.
As potions wise go, Find a good alchemist and potions are cheap. She Hides most of the time so potion usage was not an issue. Heals she has two rings to heal so need no consumables. So She kept saving up more and more.
Now what I was really hoping to use that money for was to buy awesome gear like other classes has, sadly for a pure rouge the best armor I found was the Deputies leathers. But these did not scream Rouge. Sure I could have gone and bought gold boots and such, but it would ruin the feel of a rogue character. And I went to every hidden shop and quest shops and far off shops. Sadly rogues are lacking in the great gear so many other classes has. Only thing of great value are the traps but I get my own on quests.
Suggestions to make spend money.
Temples;
A gem that will give you a raise dead like re-spawn, Activate it in the Fugue and it acts like a raise.
Deity favors, More you donate the more blessing you receive. Donate 1k and you can switch your deity to the one you donated too. 2k and you get random loooong term blessings cast on you each time you donate after.10K and you have a 50/50 chance to be saved by that deity. 20k and you can buy very special gear for said deity.
Raises and Rezs is valued at you alignment differently. I have seen the Maleens take everyone to Mystra since they have a discount. Have alignment of the dead factor into it. So you have to take the dead to a reasonable temple or pay more.
Recipes;
Have different shops around that sells the recipes at a high price, sure we can find them on quests, but with more and more recipes coming it gets harder and harder to actually find the ones you want. Keep the rarest most valuable recipes as loot still.
Gear;
More pure class only gear for -All- the classes. Or just more flavorful gear for the classes so it looks like something said rogue will want to wear.
With what hopes to be Leather crafting coming in this will help as well.
Minions, Companion, Familiars;
Gold for random minions. Have like said a "Jumping Goblin" That randomly spawns on the road and if you are Evil and have 5k of gold you get yourself a minion, usable by any class.
Mercs, A Merc group moved into town that lets you hire a Mercenary for the day.
Familiars at a shop. For a mere 10K you can buy one of the Familiars that you get from character creation; fairy dragon, Pixie, Hell hound and so forth.
Horses, Yes introduce horses in the server that costs 15K, Nightmare for 18K. Ride-able, bags to hold things.
Guess this would cause people to Save rather than spend, but it will empty a purse out.
Inns, Houses, Faction buildings
Camp Site, Buy a camp site kit that when used in a wide open area will set up a small campfire, bedroll and tent and will stay there for a week. So you can rest without having to mess with tinder each time. //Even I would love to pay for this set up//
Inns have special rooms that players can pay for and get a key to the room with a Persistent Chest of 5 slots and a free rest bed, Must pay so much per reset for it though or you loose your key. Say like 100 a day, {Or maybe 700 a week or so at High costs} [Thinking so DMs do not have to get involved in monitoring You pay the fee to the Inn keeper to flag a quest done, If you use the key without it being flagged the key breaks when used. Then it can be bought again from the Inn Keeper by anyone else. After a month of no show from a Character room is reset for other person to buy and deleting the character will reset it as well.]
Buy your own house, 1,000 rent per week, Invite your friends over, have parties. Have it so you can decorate it with those paintings or statues you find on quests. Or can even buy a persistent storage at a Shop to put in or a few. 5 slot 300 gold, 10 slot 600, 25 slot 2,000, Need a house though to place them. {Flagging it the same as the Inn room but the Harald at the Palace, or a new NPC "Tax Collector"}
Player faction Buildings. It was done before with the GWC and Thunderholm traders. Let factions pay monthly for their own buildings.
Now keep IG earned free houses, buildings, lairs free still.
Gardening;
Seeds can be bought at a shop. This way you don't have to look in the hells of where ever they are to get some you need.
Tools; 500 gold need to buy gardening tools so you can plant, grow and harvest what ever it is you grow.
Fertilizer,1,000 gold Use to make your own fertile area or expand it where ever you want too.
Rumtum's Special Elixir of growing anything Instantly potion…..1,500 gold and will instantly grow a seed that is planted.
Quests;
Have certain quests available only after the group pays for a map or information or a key to the area. Quests will have high rewards to them for loot. Or bonus areas to already quests.
Magics;
More scrolls wands and special magical items in shops.
True Mages staffs.

Working on something like currently
-
Been thinking about this maybe some items to increase spells per day for sorcs with my pryo i was spending gold of other peoples raises because i had nothing to buy apart from wands.
-
Damn, Zargen said what I was going to say… horses, class armor and houses.... I have seen horses and houses (awhile ago) Work on alot of good servers... Besides, why else have that riding skill lol...
Also was said was storage, I'm always running close to my max strength just because of consumables, and my other weapons/armor (bow, whip, axe, katana, shield etc..) It reealy add's to the weight...
-
Opening up storage at any level to the entire server would need a discussion by the DM team. Horses have been discussed and aren't happening.
I'm personally against 'houses' as they tend to create clique situations, and cut off vast swathes of players from my obvservations.

Make dyes and crafting modification more expensive, that sure will cut everyone's pocket money.
-
Are you trying to kill me Puffs?
Those things are quite expensive enough as it -_-

Customization could go higher than 100gp in my opinion, after Zool would finish test running it.
I remember I once paid nearly 4,000gp to modify an armor. Was it excessive? Yes. Was it worth it? God yes.An idea would be to give one modification per character for 100gp tokens when a character is created. Once they use it then its gone and the next time they want to make modifications it will be much more expensive. That way new characters could modify their mundane looks at first play.
-
I'm not going to be putting any crazy code in to work out what items should cost more to customise, it will only ever be a flat fee.
-
Dyes are already stupid expensive. Whomever put in the cost for those dyes was not in the correct frame of mind. Player customization that enhances the play experience should not be expensive, but cheap.
-
Well, I remember some of the dyes costing hundreds. Now they are affordable enough to experiment with in my opinion compared to the old costs when you could waste a 400gp red metal dye on the wrong metal part. Today's dye prices work as a gold sink well enough without being insanely expensive.
-
Off topic:
You can also buy a dye, export a char, use dye in single player so you can see what parts of the armor will be dyed to the given color.
Sure, this won't eliminate color mistakes, but you can be sure which option to choose when you use it.
-
best way to get dyes right is 1- use the color char of what is available IG: viewtopic.php?t=77521
2- AronFF's solution or toolset.the dye prices and customization ones too are good as they are. Some of us don't make 10k gold easy.
back on topic
may be put more available buffs/spells sold by priests maybe? Been seeing potions available in various spell level, those are neat. -
It's a trend people follow, I guess.
You can never really have enough Heal potions, which are readily available.
