DM Announcement RE: Favortism Et Al.
-
That said, if a DM was responsible for some of the spawns that kicked our asses, that was mean. We're now on our third party of characters after the first two got themselves into all kinds of trouble, to the point where we felt like those characters had failed so completely, so many times, that we had to leave them dead and try again lol
-
I have no idea what spawns you mean so I couldn't say!
-
They did one of two things.
- Did nothing with the hooks, forcing us to find new groups to drop them on.
- Brought them to Thune.
And then, said Thune was getting all the plots & attention.
"….."
- I may been guilty of that several times, its just that I'm terrible at recognizing plot hooks. Then on a few occasions, I see later that I had a plot hook right in my hands but its already resolved by someone else (probably because a DM gave the same hooks to another PC because I did nothing with it). Nothing wrong with that, only I wish I was made aware of the fact that this was meant as a hook.
I've been in several situations where me and a few other players suddenly have a DM around. I've always appreciated this, but never really thought much more about it. I know some of these are just to make things more engaging or interesting and nothing more. But when these kinds of DM actions are meant as hooks for a plot, why not give a direct hint/tell to one of the involved players to give them a heads up if they fail to act on it?
-
I often do that actually, mostly to the newer players I give clues to, or if it's clear that the monster/NPC's words were pretty much ignored, or they think the ragged note is just junk.
But sometimes, it seems like they are interested (often times actually) at first, but then forget about it by tomorrow.
Perhaps they expect the plot hook to be a 'right now' thing, and when nothing happens instantly, they think the 'hook' was just fluff.

- THE cockroach get outof is hole again*
Your all probably right.. at the end of the day . ..
I and most of the Cockroachs accept to not be involv in DMS PLOTS.. they accept there peoples who gone have more advantages.. becose they do the kind of rp and stuff DMS ask for … and it all right..
But i was realy not agree with.. the ways you treath my characters and some players characters when they are in dm game compar of others ...let juste know it realy not give us a good experience..and shurly not gine us the will to play again with DMS and with thos players who ask us help for many reason and rp with us when DMS not arond and sudently act as they dont know us when DMS MAKE THEM GAME.. ..
When i read stuf peoples write here.. like. ..: ho if DMS NPCS ddint nods to you .. .. talk or put any attention to you. it maybe becose it was Jadeth DM even.. i juste dont understand.. sorry.. for me it not a reason..
A other big thing . START to bug me alot...... I play on arabel for long.. i stop play like 7 years.... and i come back... and elven are at the same point
It strange for me i can not believe there no elvens group in the past able to build a temple or a place for them out side Arabel...
It look .. there always a reason dms find... why they ddint reach them goals.. or something apen.. or they all not good in them rp .. or i dont know.. but it a litle bit strange for me..
for finish ..all i want .... and some pc want is a elven place for the elven character who want to play the elven life style... get couple of NPCS who sale stuff only for them.. in the wild.. place.. like the dwarfs.. etc... CAN WE ?
DONT tell me it becose we ddint try anuf or didnt do the right thing for..etc.. .. i can not believe in 10 years of game plays there no elvens group able to do this...
I can understand we are in a land where Malar is stronge.. but get a Litle place somewhere not supos to be impossible.. i meam.. god.. it start to be anoying...
You look to want to regroup the players in the same town.. when there new place. like waymoot .. or new even.. .. you destroy them.. pushing players to play in Arabel town.. probably for players have to rp in the same place togheters..
but for me.. the only DMS attention i ask in the past ..was always for the same reason.. find a place and build a home for elvens in the wild... nothing els was, are, and will be important until this.. . Arabel can burn.. the shardovar can kill all the nobles.. .. the criminels of the slums can creat 1 millions of blood stone.. i dont care... i juste want to make the rp for get a home for elfs and npcs for them out side Arabel.. place where they can craft wood.. without go in human city..etc...
Maybe..if you can.. you shoud be clear and honest and juste tell us.. there will never gone be a elven place in a area in the wild no matter what players do.. ... it be more clear, honest and simple.. and like this..
i will not wast 10 more years and lost 20 others characters.. .....and get all kinds of reasons from the
DM explain us why it not gone work...So now, when i play, i play a priest of Fenmarel...lone wolf... not trusting any one.. and living in the
wild...and i play with peoples when i want and leave them when i want.. and that all..
I do as i always do with my elvens priests characters. and live in the wild. find a place where peoples dosent realy go... and place i like and build a litle shrine there with some orcs head or stuff in circle... ... nothing who can trouble no one...exept if you come to make me trouble where i build my shrine as some do in the past.. .. and it shoud not supos to need any DMS attention.. until DMS decide to come for make me trouble too.. as they do in the past..I hope i ddint be to rude in this post.....
Thank you..

I just want you to know Azazel, that no one here thinks you are a cockroachs, or that you should be "squashed". That you are willing to take so much time to voice concerns you have about CoA speaks much of the passion you have for our server. However before we can ever give you an answer you can understand, you need to first come down from this mountain peak of self entitelment and bitterness you have claimed for yourself, and be willing to listen to what the dm team has to say. At the moment you are simply saying the same things over and over again, and I cant help but feel that this passion if yours could be spent in so much better ways IG, if you would just listen to what we are trying to tell you.

I'll say this on the subject: I'm not all that good at getting DM attention, pushing plots, gathering followers, and all the stuff whose unfair division is being spoken about here.
I've asked people how they do this or that. How I should approach this or that. Whether this or that is a good idea.
They have all been immensely helpful - and, considering I've not always shown an exemplar attitude (okay, so I'm an ass), I'm not the most likely person they would offer it to.
These valuable insights have really helped me. So, thanks to you all for that… and I'm sure that the others can find someone able to give helpful pointers, too, if they put up with me. -
I suppose i am late to the discussion, i wont be referencing most of the posts on this thread as a large proportion don't concern me although i did take the time to read them.
there is no OOC favoritism in rewarding a character for involving a good amount of people as he chases down his IC goals and it makes sense that they'd get better loot, more resources and outside aid to help them carry on telling their story both from an IC stand point often by pleasing an npc or faction or some sort, and from an OOC stand point as people are interested in seeing more
However for me this does bring in an issue if you happen to include an item you feel is overpowered for general use for the purpose of a story telling tool (insert dragon slayer sword or some such) which i approve of so long as it remains what is it, a story telling tool used for the purpose to was created, The second said item is not long functioning as a story telling tool it is just as overpowered in the hands of the player who earned it for the plot as it is the person he might be using it on, if you decide to keep the item in the characters hands but restrict it's movement via OOC intervention then that is clear Favoritism, as you are stepping in oocly to effect the IC outcome for no other purpose than you feel oocly one player deserves an item more than another even though both currently have the same story telling merit with the item.
luckily the examples i know of this happening are years back and dms now ask characters with items like these to stop playing after the plot or plots are done. However if dms still see this as a fair practice than i'd say there is still an OOC favoritism towards players
-
That would be towards characters, not players, even if we take your viewpoint. There's a big distinction that needs to be kept here, it's the entire point of the thread.
That said.
Super powerful items, are generally only given to characters for a final battle. the characters are then retired/dead.
Powerful items, related to a story/plot might stay in the server (not on a specific character, as people might be able to steal the item to take the story in their direction) until the story/plot is over, at which point, they are normally destroyed in some event, or seriously weakened.
Some items are given to special character concepts to supplement the concept, and those are supposed to be marked none drop. Sometimes this is forgotten, but none drop exists for a reason. (this is mostly for application concepts, that included an item within it, for instance, a druid who has an item that allows him to have a special summoning theme unique to the concept, or for a character that has managed to gain said item through in game actions, in both cases, the item would die with the character in question)
-
I understand how I blurred the distinctions however and i might be wrong on this matter as i often am however the restriction i outline applied to all of characters past present or future regardless of the story telling merit having said item would give them as it restricts all movement of said item to anyone,
Which at least in my eyes, like i said i am often wrong, i would view this as you treating said character better than any possible character present or future so i'd say your Favoritism might only be towards his character however your disfavor would be towards everyone as a players as it judges all of their possible characters which i view as there input to the server, thus i would see this as treating all players but the one you given the item to as worse than that player thus you are treating his player as a favorite(yes for the duration of his character). as far as i am concerned disfavor to all but one is the same as favoritism. now it is very possible i am using circular logic or simply missing a major point if so please point it out to me.
Also like i said before i truly think you should step in to prevent to movement of a item that is functioning to help tell a story which a concept item always will be thus never applies to my point

Honestly,
DMs will show favortism to characters. We've always admitted this and it is a positive good for the server. It rewards and encourages the kind of fun interactions we want to foster on the server. It reinforces to the community that "here is what you do if you want to really stand out from the crowd".
We will not show favortism to players.
Blurring the distinction is a bad idea. That lead's to jealousy and seeing things the way you do Grack Gor.
If i give Player A who plays Character 1 Excaliber, it is because Character 1 is an amazing character that is pushing stories, involving other players, leading people on adventurers, and even creating new plots with his actions. If Player B, who plays Character 2 dies, he does not deserve the reward of Excaliber unless he is also pushing stories, involving other players, leading people on adventurers, and creating new plots with his actions. If Character 2 is doing those things, he'll get Excaliber.
If Character 1 and Character 2 die, and Player A and Player B make new characters and this time Player B is pushing stories, involving other players, leading people on adventures he may be rewarded with the Gungir Spear. Player A isn't doing any of these things, he doesn't get the reward for his character.
Players are not favored in these situations.
Their characters are rewarded for doing what DMs say we will reward players for doing.

If I was a DM pet, my App would have been approved in full, instead, I was told to EiG, and had to resubmit my app like 3 times over 1 week before they approved half of it. Funny though, since about a dozen people told me I could submit an app for a half-dragon half-drow, weaponmaster shadowdancer and it would be approved. Its just not true.

SIGHT.. ya.. i know . it me again…
First, i wnt to thanks the DMS team for stop to bring me craizy spawns in the wild when am alone for trying to push me to go where peoples are.....
But i sadly forget to talk about a other ways where i can see Favortim...
I have nothing agains DMS who come in scrypted quest for make it more hard or for change it..
I have nothing agains Dms taking control of a spell caster and make hime run aways for we not kill hime to aisely.....
But i realy dont understand why Dms control monsters for constently change target player and do all they can for targeting the same players all the time....
when a monster knockdown a player and sudently change target for not kill the one who are knock down and run to a other target.... or make all the monsters charge on a particular player... and it nothing to do about if this player is a spell caster or what ever....
Last night i was in Kanthea ancien bear quest... and DMs come .. it was amazing to see how this Dm save the ass of certain players and target other.... ..
The druids spawns cast on character .. paralyse some but stop to attack them and start to cast on others character ..and cast on certain players and juste dont stop to target them even there other players who attacking this Druids spawns.. or see dire tigers and bears...avoiding to kill certain players and run arond all the group for targeting particular player....
If i am not clear... what i mean... is.. if Dms continue to targeting me or lanfear players when you come in scrypted quest... well, we gone juste leave the groupe each time we gone realise there a dms in our scrypted quest.....and this groupe .. will probably not gone be able to finish the quest whitout us...and die..... exept . of course.. if you do what it take for save them.....
When me and Lanfear make scrypted quest with peoples.. we do all we can for evrybody survive .. and we always fight at the front and most of the time the success of the groupe depend on us... and alote of peoples level up becose of us and wait for see if we gone make a sending and always happy to come with us cause they know they gone have a chance to SUCCESS....
So i want to apology to the players in the futur... , but next time if you come with us in scrypted quest and a Dms come for ''have fun'' with us... you have to be prepar to finish to quest whitout us...
Thank you .

Correct me if I am wrong, but It sounds like the behaivour was "Spreading out the attacks and damage" to everyone.. instead of contining to kill one PC then another, then another, it shifted between them?
If what you say is accurate, Sounds like DM trying to keep the whole paryy on the edge of it's seat as opposed to simply destroying one then another then another -
games basically has it.
Frankly, if you have a shitty attitude you can always find the conspiracy theory.
Basic truth is, if a DM wants to kill your character we can log into your account vault and delete it.
That is much simpler than going to all the trouble of carefully controlling a monster to attack certain PCs, then switch to others, then switch to you and kill you.
In fact Azazel, it reaches a point where I'm going to point out that you're rather a toxic attitude on this server. Maybe it is not for you.
-
first off… no dm would admit to do such tactics, but i know better that believeing any dm now. that said, i wont play in any dm event, and will quit any scripted quest a dm is in.... for two reason... one you never played with me out of quest, even going to lenght to ignore my character in a dm event, and more than once, and all those time doing it occ, as my character talk to lord wyvernspur when we were the last one fighting in flynn agasint the shadowvar, we are both left alone and we both survive the attack, i turn to him o see if he is allright, but he doesnt answer me, i ask him many time what should we do now, he still ignore me.... ohhh i see.... so dm ignore me... well i will ignore you if you show up in my sending, and will quit the group... sad because i really enjoy playing with all the players of this server... but hate playing with all the dms who give more attention to others and make sure some unwanted player die... unwanted as it is clear some dm dont like us.... remember a game is made to have fun... not destroy fun... a dm fail miserably when a player stop having fun, even worse when the feeling of fun is replace with frustration and a down mood... that is big time fail for any dm, more so the feelings can spread to others as well. now one thing to remember.. iam not here to play with dm.. but players only
-
I honestly can't believe what i'm reading. Why would you even want to play on a server where you think the DMs are out to get you? If they wanted you dead they have a DM KILL button for that. If i were a DM, i would stay away from someone with your attitude because i cannot imagine how bad the rage would be should you fail.
-
well killing a character this way, ( with a kill button switch) would be bad for the server… it would send a message to all players that dm can do anything on a simple whim of theirs and less players would come to play on this server... wich in a sense they do anyway, but disguise it so it doesnt look like...
-
Its really getting to the point where the two of you need to step away from the server until such a point in time where you can come back with an attitude that is not so toxic. Alot of what the two of you are writing is just mind boggling.
-
And offensive to the team of people that spend a lot of time working on a server, sending you private messages in an attempt to help you get more out of the server we maintain, and give up hours of their time to make the server fun for the players you want to interact with.
