Concepting: A Journey
-
The name, discription and over all "Feel" of my character have to be totally right. On Eagleman, I spent a good 6 months working out every detail before finally making him…
I, however, almost never choose a protrait when making a character as 90% of the time the portaits suck or dont represent what I have in mind, so I choose the closest head, and hair color and let my discription do the rest of the work when people view what my characters looks like.
Also, almost always I have an idea of how I want my character to look as far as style/armor and weapons go. For Eagleman/John Justice first think I did when I got IG was to spend most of my money making his outfit perfect.

I start with a blank sheet, throw in a name that conjours up what I'm looking for and go with that. I then build background and character as I go, reacting to situations and asking "How would he/she act with this stimulus". Trying to build a concept for 6 months before creating the character would be so… deathly for me.
-
I usually try to decide if I'd like to be all brooding but sparkle in the sun or a bit wild and look really good with my shirt off, then I go from there.
-
Start with a name.
Create a genealogy and development of that name over the past four/five centuries.
Give him an origin.
Smart with money.
Must be mechanically strong.
Must be successful within the first week, or it is vetoed.
Wash, rinse and repeat on character's ambiguous death.

This for me too. Its why I hate writing apps since it requires me to spend several hours to make the concept and even more days to have it approved/reviewed.

-

Isn't the pony thing getting to old? talk about a drawn out joke that was never funny to begin with.
-
Joke?
MLP is awesome.

Back on topic. Starting with deity is a common thing for me to do.

@Neolithic:
Portraits and proper voice sets are a must. Also, if I can't customize the armor/clothes I'm wearing or if they're set into a style that looks too ugly, I rapidly lose interest. Names are fashioned according to region of birth and their real-life corollaries. I usually develop most tweaks and character flaws/quirks/perks in game, such as Luciano being homosexual or Aurixvrak's wings being ticklish.
That.
For me, the flaws/quirks get developed within the first couple login sessions. -
