Far Realm
-
What Kinda Lore do you think you need to have any knowledge of this at all?
-
could you explain this better? What are you referring to far away countries, other Planes of existence? I really not sure what you mean by the term "Far realms"
-
The characters in game know nothing about the Far Realm. Possibly a very restricted group of knowledgeable lore seekers may know something, but those would be NPCs
-
In PnP, with the sole exception of the Alienist class, I tend to run the Far Realm as epic-level lore.

You could try finding these lore seekers, and find out about the far realm by returning thier book of life, the multiverse and everything, that a mad gnome stole though.

Seems a little odd to go looking for someone who can tell you of the Far Realms if you've never heard of any Far Realms and nobody you've ever met has ever heard of the Far Realms, so you don't even know such a term as 'far realms' means something, though.

Ikul and his negativity once more.
Yes, but you dont go aearching for far realms information. You go searching for great lore keepers who maybe, just maybe, know something about other worlds and places no one else does. Curiosity, adventure. Ya know.
-
Yes, metagaming, just at the OOC level instead of IC level.
-
I call it fun. Potato, potarto.
Wanted to find out about the planes with Novo, part of the concept. Didnt know jack all at the start, ended up writing a book. Went out looking for portals and stuff.

Mate, just thinking of stuff like this should get your ball rolling.
Best wishes with what might be.

I want #AlienInvasion to come to CoA. Please?

This
So you are saying every young kid who looks up at the stars and imagines that there may be other life out there are all OOC metagamers if they play a char with the same ambitions? Try to think outside of the box a bit.
-
They can imagine there's life out there. They cannot know it comes from Alpha Centauri.

This is not someone looking out to the stars and imagining life.
This is someone looking out through the very fabric of space-time into the multiverse, then looking out through whatever fabric that is made of and imagining there's life in a place outside of it that only a handful of minds in the entirely world can even imagine.
Stars, you can at least see. This would not just be thinking outside of the box… this would be thinking outside of the box in which the box is in which the box is. -
Heres a example of what I mean by OOC player metagaming as opposed to IC metagaming, as it seems to have not been understood.
Theres a couple people from a "bad neighborhhod"
My character has seen server messages so-and-so used XYZ powers.
And I've seen "so and so said in language XYZ" messagI could decide for some reason I want my character to know where they are form.
So I could google their powers, and find out where their are from and then decide I wanted to for some reason learn about that place… and then having done so, be able to IC recognize these people.Or perhaps do it via the langauge the server told me I recognized - Although, as the only being I've talked with that I knew was from there spoke in common I can't see that my charcater actually recognized the language.
So, yes I could OOC device some reasons and means of my character finding out this information IC. But why would my character have taken this path, other than to find this information that it doesn't know exists ?

With this example, I see IC information being acted on OOCly, you could "research" those powers IC rather than Online, the server is "what you see, you get" so you recognized that power somehow.. and if you overheard the language and identified it, perhaps you heard it before and could ask around yet again ICly to find out what lands it is from.
The only OOC "metagaming" you posted what deciding to do all that research online instead of IC..
To me metagaming is like this: say you are playing a fighter with zero lore and zero spellcraft, yet a wizard casts an "unkown" spell on your blade, you decide to "examine" the blade and see it now has a +2 enhancement bonus… so your fighter says "You just cast greater magic weapon right!".
That is using OOC knowledge ICly, i.e. metagaming

Meta gaming is acting on, in any way, information known to you, but not to your character.
If your character is interested in other realms, secret lore, and planes you may find some interesting adventure, but it is ultimately up to a DM whether you come accross anything like the Shadow Weave, Far Realm, or another Netherese Enclave (Opus). You are not going to find, IC, any information on this stuff without there help.
Trying to manipulate the situation of what you know OOC so you can take advantage of it IC is meta gaming. Simple
PS. I played a character I had expressed OOC to DMs about the city Opus. Origionaly I was told it did not exist, but later on IC began to discover its existance. The big difference is I did not go looking for "secret lore about lost cities" or even planar lore. The DM exposed me to it as part of a plot and my character knew next to nothing about it.

Thanks, ArchAngel, That was well put together.
