Could paladins also have such raising powers? :)
-
No. Paladins are given only those powers that they need to smite evil. They're not here for clerical duties.

How about the ability for player factions to rent out certain buildings that could serve as their HQ? Is there anything like this that could be feasible?

Nice.

Yes.
In fact they exist in the module already. I put one in a few weeks back.

I actually agree with whoever said a page back to make Arabel smaller, the size of the city serves no purpose anymore when there is such a lack of players. Making the city smaller and more concentrated again would make each area feel more useful and more reason to go to each area. Frankly, sence I have played here I've never liked the design of West Arabel, its all wonky and doesnt seem very city like with that big raises area and those little fountain rivers going everywhere with no bridges to walk over them. Anyways, I am carrying one small issue out here.
I think the entire server could do with a "shrink" and make the entire server more personal. I've been playing here along time and I still have yet to see alot of the areas utilized very often or even explored many of them with people. While some might say "Well, that gives you something to go out and do!" I say, it seems like a waste of space.
Also, as the server shrinks it gets harder to reach higher levels, so someone like me who has invested so much time in the character and is higher level rarely has quests to go on anymore with other folks. I think there needs to be more areas like the desert where you can get transported to and hunt creatures for tiny amount of XP and gold. For example if a level 10 went there, I might only get 1 or 2 xp per kill, but at least it would give me something to do with lower level players and still feel like I am getting something out of it other then wasting money and items and getting nothing.
I am playing right now, and not long ago a DM did host a fun event and I did a few things with a couple other players. Its now 8:30 on a saturday night and right now there is only 7 people on. I never remember numbers like this! We have to come up maybe we some way of spreading the word about Arabel around more! Maybe on the band forums we visit or or favorite gaming sites or whatever. Just make an efforet to let people know that this game is still operating and there is still fun to be had. (Also force all other PW RP servers to shut down so everyone comes here! )
-EDIT-
I should mention that the DM's, new ones and old ones alike, but I think especially the new ones have been doing a stellar job this last week or so with keeping things fun! Def a huge plus!
-
I think before we make any major changes to the module such as shrinking it down we should wait till mid September like falonthas suggested and if the numbers are still low like they are now than we can revisit this idea.
-
It not going to bounce up to 32/32 all day like it was
-
It certainly wont, the number will go up, but there wont be any miracles. As I said in another thread, I remember the days when the server was 55/55 for a large part of the day, of course things change and everything "dies" but there is still plenty of fun to be had a good players here to play with. We just need to change with the times and make sure to keep things fun.
Frankly, I wish I woulda' been a player more back in the days when 55/55 was typical, but I mostly just watched my buddy play back then. I only got to experience it for a short time.
-
Gmork proved with the ZK that one area cities are awesome.
While I agree that Arabel would definitely benefit from that, it'll be a very major overhaul. Probably time better spent in actually running stuff for players instead of in the toolset.
-
55/55 has been quite a rarity for quite awhile now, in fact its gone that high in a couple years unless there was a DM event going on. But I don't see low to mid 30s as being the average for most of the day as being unrealistic, in fact we could do just fine with those numbers.
-
I'm pretty sure that 35 every night will be here soon.
-
Beautiful, thats more than enough.

Any way to send an external event to a Facebook Application via Facebook Connect?
I suspect there are Tons of people that want to RP but have never heard of NWN/CoA and if we could reach out to them….
I don't know squat about NWN toolset, but maybe I can help on the Web Programming side.
Status Ex:
"Eric's character 'Arrow Death' has made L9 after killing a Double Hobbit! " -
NO FACEBOOK BAH!
I love to see some conflict led by the players sadly, i know COA is not as player based as it was but it made things interesting to have oh say for the Lyss Event you were on Team Faith or Team Lyss
-
We already have a CoA Facebook page; building an app for it would take some coding though.
-
I wonder if someone couldn't script a CoAville on Facebook.
Hahah.
-
I hate you all, Facebook is Evil!
only reason i got an account is because of my Volunteer work uses Facebook for events and i hate that evil thing, 90% of the messages i get are invites to play stupid farmville
I'm really hoping for a viable player faction or Dm/player faction to rise up to give us something to hate, Like the Zhents or the Rot It nice to see some evil groups working around and something to openly oppose it just feels to "we all get along"
Right now if a dm not on it feels like scripted quest or exploring mostly which is fine.. but can get boring quite quickly.
-
Honestly speaking- If you do not have an IC antagonist, be it a PC or a faction (preferably with PCs in it!) you're probably not having as much fun as you could be.
Adventure is really awesome, and the core of what DnD is all about; But in an environment where DMs cannot be with you 24/7 to run custom adventures, players have to help us out by making their own. The one-shot and plot-quests that DMs run always have an end goal, (even if you don't see what that is right away.) That's what makes it interesting.
Consider, if you had undertaken even a long and hard scripted quest (and there are a TON that most players on this server haven't even SEEN) and recover any object (even if it's just a screenshot rping that you cut a crystal) and try to make up some kind of plot out of it (this crystal will grow into crystal city!), we'd actually back it if lots of people are having fun with it, because that's what we're here for. To help you tell your own stories.
Yes, while it's true that factions at present are trying not to break Arabel by infighting (realistically, everyone needs some peace after almost 2 years of total unrest; nor does this mean the factions are allies or even friendly.) nothing's stopping the PCs from stirring the pot. PCs can be power hungry, or yes, even disagree with the NPCs. If NPCs say "don't!" you don't have to listen.
So next time you log in, try and talk to everyone. Make up a path for your character, try to see if that path includes people who will try to stop you (antagonists) or people who are in your way (obstacles) and work for it.
Free-drifting characters and pure adventurers who live for adventure and loot are fun and relaxing; And really, that's what we're here for, to have fun; But if you're getting bored of it, it's really up to you to change it.
We can play with the setting, we can play with factions, we can play around with plots; But ultimately, the fact remains that we can't always be available for each one of you, and so it's up to the playerbase to create fun and tell stories to each other (as mini-DMs) while we're not.
If you think something different in the setting itself would make it so, be it a new faction or some huge changes, we can certainly discuss it. But try to remember, the setting's just a backdrop for what you guys do.
Even the kind of factions and plots the DMs introduce are what we think will be fun for you. Players have different tastes, like different things. So if you want something different, we're counting on you to work towards it and make it so.
