Potion brewers

Wondering if anyone else has noticed a distinct lack of these, and if it's bothering them at all. I've found it real hard to buy some of the basics recently. Doesn't stop me going into the underdark or anything, but I do like to have supplies on hand.
Someone take the feat and serve me damn it!
-
I, for one, have the feat. But I've basically had no reason or opportunity to use it. To date I've only found two recipes while adventuring, and the ones available to buy in the city (at least judging by the one I bought and then just sold due to the fact that it was impossible to make money by using it) are simply not worth it. It allowed you to make the potion for only 1 gold less than it was available for in stores.
In fact, potion brewing was going to be a major activity for my character. But nobody wants potions, and the money you make on the off chance you sell one is very, very small. People only want wands. Oh well.

The new and improved potion brewing basicly destroyed potion brewers incomes this was by design as dm's didn't want crafting potions to be profitable but only to allow you to make a small amount of gold ..which basicly ment it became a wasted feat that was more trouble and to expensive to be worth bothering with.
Also the potions that were most popular became unmakeable without limited use recipes which you had to pay for again lowering profits to the point where it became pointless maybe it will get balanced in a few years when the server moves in a different direction but with it's current focus it's not to likely. -
Potion brewing should remain profitable by more than 1 gold coin.
It should not be more profitable than actually adventuring full time though.
We want to strike a balance, so if some prices should be adjusted, please let us know in the suggestions forum.
Here, consider Skill Focus: Appraise. It is a profitable feat, you make over the course of a character thousands of gold off this feat. Potion brewing should likewise result in thousands of gold for a character–and more so than Skill Focus: Appraise really because the feat has greater requirements.
It shouldn't lead to a character with 20,000 extra gold in his pocket at any given time.

I have recorded my last arcane potion brewer's profits and from the end of June 2010 to august 2010, he made the following (with the new system and with a very limited potion list):
Potions:
Total Revenues: 18,235
Total Costs: 12,437
Total Profit: 5,798Nr. Items: 277 (profit per item: 21 gold)
Gems:
Total Revenues: 3,250
Total Costs: 2,390
Total Profit: 860Nr. items: 15 gems (profit per item: 57 gold)
He was a dedicated merchant and not an adventurer, because of the limited number of potions that were in the module I abandoned him.
Being a potion brewer working for money will become dull if done only for profit. -
No results from before last month are valid though, as you were playing a brewer when the system wasn't actually IN the module entirely.
It still is being rolled out, recipes being made available, and things being tweaked.

No potion of the first circle is worthwhile to buy except Shield Potions. They ought to be cheapened slightly. I mean, I won't even bother waiting for my potions to be brewed if all I have to pay is 5 gold more per potion to buy them instantly from an NPC.

This. There is no incentive at all to buy from PCs if it is not significantly less expensive. NPCs are always online, they have an infinite stock, and you don't have to wait a day between each individual potion.
Recipes need to allow us to brew potions significantly below market level, or the types of potions which can be bought from NPC merchants need to be significantly reduced. Otherwise it's going to remain a useless system, even once recipes are abundant.
-
I don't know much about the new brewing system, but I sure do miss potion makers. I'm playing a character that depends heavily on potions and I've been buying almost exclusively from npcs.
-
The only potion you need is a wand of CSW.
-
dunno about you but I'm pretty sure alphonse castiel made some money when I ordered 10000 golds worth of potions off him one week.
-
To be honest, I just want cheap shield potions.
Having fancy potions available, like wounding whispers, or something cool, would be great, but right now, I'd be happy if NPC's just werent a complete rip off when it comes to shield potions. 40-45 gold from a PC 100-160 gold from an NPC.

All comments are pertinent.
The Con-Koth-ctions conglomerate was making money on:
- shield
- blur
- invisibility
potions. Sometimes I was even selling Endure elements at a loss (buying from NPC) to have a larger variety of potions.
-
I think wizards make a crapload of gold on Blur potions. Possibly far too much in fact. As a priest, Im not much making anything at all on the potion feat, to a point where the feat is actually useless to me. I think I'll try to revise the potion cost of it and post a list.

Is Potion Brewer a concept? Maybe that'll be my next character.
Geek.

Potion brewer might not be, but crazed alchemist could be. Searching for rare thingy's to make odd potions, experiments of combining various potions into a super potion, or a vile posion and so on.

And with that, my point has been made. Take Brew Potion because it fits the concept, which should be based around Adventrue and Intrigue, not merely to have a source of income. Obviously you should not lose money and have an opportunity to make or save a -few- extract coins because of the feat. I've been waiting with interest to see how the complete implementation would shake out. I had a blast with my Sembian brewer of a few years ago even though the actual brewing was boring as hell and every Wizard and Cleric seemed to have the feat. Now with the recipies and changes, it should be alot more entertaining on all parts.
I'd suggest giving the DMs a specific and detailed list of discrepancies between PC and NPC potion brewers much like Almadyr has already done for the next little while until the system is fully implemented.

Shield potions cost too much from NPC's.
So do haste potions.
Thats the start of my list.
