Stonelands

When I last gathered people to kill spawns on the road we cleared the whole map and after saying goodbye to each other I've turned north. In 1,5 screen distance, on the exact place we've killed them there were about 10 enemies again.
thats just bad luck, the way i figure it if i can routinely make it out to zhent keep and not die, Flynn is not a frightening thing at all.

I love that quest and I usually do it when I have the chance (and is low enough level). The only downside is that the new road to Flynn is insanely dangerous, and you need luck to even survive there with a lv<5 party. While the quest and the optional side-quest is nice and rewarding, both in exp and RP, the sheer challenge of even getting there is the main problem.
For most other people that is, those city-loving sissies they are.Bottom line:
- Its not known to give out much good items/loot/gold. (maybe because its never done)
- Its often extremely dangerous/impossible to get to for the level range.
- It takes a long time to do and with so many options closer to the city.
These are the general hindrances I've encountered and why people fail to show up in my experience.
-
I was very suprised to read this post. The quest in the stonelands is one of my favourites on the server and I've done it several times recently with a new character.
-
3 maps from the city is far away?
You people must not have seen 3/4 of the module, then.
The quest is fun, the bounty hunting an ideal place to learn open field battle tactics, the secret areas interesting, the loot spawns rather decent for the level range.
All in all. ARG!
-
Wait, why does most of the people think the reward is low there?
Sure, if you take ten people with you it won't be high… If you go alone, you'll get nice amount of coins, and if you can kill the tougher spawns fast, you even get their healing potions in the minor-medium range. (it isn't random, every one of certain goblins or kobolds have it. I almost feel like cheating with a.. certain class. :) ) -
It's also a possible solo "quest", and I often as not find myself doing this on my own. With a group however, it's GREAT especially if you can follow through with the whole deal.
I miss the desert exploration areas and must settle for getting my fix with this.
-
It's to far out and to long to reap a good reward all these peaple saying how much they love it is nice but it is hardly ever done now due to the fact you have to travel to get to it where as the same level range in the city is quick and simple.
It was alot more popular when you didn't have to walk to get to it,but that is like anything on the server as soon as it is moved away from the city which is the main focus it looses popularity. -
Out of curiousity, why is there a level limit on this quest? The reward is low enough that I'd not think it a place people would just "camp" to earn bounty, and unless it's changed since I've done it, aren't the spawn frequency as random as it would be, for say, wandering about the wilds elsewhere?
For that matter, I don't know why any of the outdoor quests have "quest areas" which aren't just accessible at all times. Take the Red Springs area, for instance. Why is this area not just always accessible, but the spawns are only triggered by someone taking the quest. Is this to prevent people from being ambushed by spawns on the random chance that someone takes the quest while they're in the area?
Because quests entirely fail to work in the same way mechanically that regular open areas work in.
Having the area open allows for the quest to encounter all kinds of bugs or exploits.

Yes, it is possible to solo it, but that defeats the point of trying to get people involved. It's not the goblins/kobolds, or even the xp, for why I'm trying to get people to go. And with the explorable areas of the desert being taken out, I'm limited to Stonelands and Helmlands - and fewer people want to go to the latter - for the ICness of what I'm trying to accomplish.
-
What I meant was that if someone already goes and solos that quest, they can't do it again until a reset short of a DM getting involved and that might contribute to lack of interest by the time you make a sending about going in there.

I'm frankly appalled at the half dozen posts which state there is little point venturing outside the city maps when all the xpz and gold they need are within the city walls.
-
the main issue currently i think is likely to be the speed that pcs gain lvl 6, i enjoy the stonelands but typically have only managed to gather a group to do it once before i reach that top level limit.
Whether that is me or the system i dont know, but there are typically few low level characters about to my mind.

I think you got screwed yesterday because anyone with nothing to do just answered a call from the mage's guild.
I love the additional non-bounty quest in the Stonelands and the rewards seemed pretty good to me last time I did it. The risk isn't too high or anything and it's a lot of fun. Maybe meet people in the adventurer's guildhall and go from there so they don't know you're dragging them away from the city.
There is an issue of the level 5 cap and the fact that you can get to 6 pretty easy without leaving the city. I've been sitting at 5th level for a while, but usually end up going on the 5-10 level quests because there's more people in that range doing more.
I seem to either hear the "I'm first level and we're doing the XP train: Nada/ Tymora/ Ring/ Albons thing- come now for these odd jobs (level 1-4)" or much higher level quest sendings mostly.
Maybe they should just put all the level 1-5 quest-givers in a small room that teleport you to the quests so we can all just get 6th level without seeing an non-quest related load screen?

Actually thanks to PN, we took a lvl 6 with us, and had a good time and grand exploration. Did not find what I was ICly looking for, but found what I OOCly wanted: people willing to get out of their comfort zones.
Thanks to: Cadiz, Ikul, & You're_Fired for the RP.

Well, by the time we got there we had less to lose, anyway.
