Am I a bad person…

His name isn't on there, so what does it matter? It's not like he's gonna suffer any repurcussions for what he said, as he shouldn't. He was just expressing how he felt and wasn't going flippant on anybody. Well, maybe except on the inside.
He didn't say anything personal except regarding his opinions to the server. I've seen people posting other people saying that their butt was on fire through tells, and didn't bother to leave the name out, so what's the problem here?
Worst thing that'll happen is he won't want to talk with me through tells ever again. But then again, the entire conversation was about how a server I enjoy is really crappy and unfair and ruined with unfounded favoritism, so no loss there.
I just hope he doesn't transmit something like this to a new player.

Two things are clear so far:
-
Moloch say all DMs have favourite players; this means also he actually -likes- someone. This goes against everything we've come to know so far! :O
-
Jagged just stated its a "he", meaning we've already ruled out 3% of the playerbase as to whom this might be! Bring the pitchforks and torches.
I actually have to agree with Jagged on his last point tho. Views like these are making this place into a sad story if its spreads (or is prevalent), so I think a little wake-up call is needed for the people in general and maybe this individual himself that this is not the way it should be.

The conversation did border a severe level of absurdity.
The kiss-asses I hire also assist with various mundane tasks.
And favorites happen. It's favoritism we like to avoid. I have players I enjoy interacting with. I don't interact with them exclusively, by any means, rather I try and put them in situations where they interact with other players they may not have and spread player goodness like some sort of virus made of awesome.
In any case, some people are jaded, that's how it goes.

I seriously wonder why people like this bother to play here.
@unknown:
… good luck find a server that's decent and has any player base to speak of
I think DMs should not care about opinions of that player. He did not slander publicly the server or the DMs. That was a private conversation and private it should have remained.
As Moloch stated he has some kind of favourite player I am sure other DMs have, we are all humans and we all enjoy the time we spend here. We are not payed to play nor to DM.
Players (and I imagine DMs as well) have some OOC friends which they like more to quest/interact with, till they keep their "preferences" to themselves -in particular if expressed via tells- and avoid slandering other players I don't see any issue with that.
We all express our thoughts on the base of what is our gaming experience.
The server is vast and allows people to interact with DMs or to avoid DM interaction.
What makes this server excellent, from my point of view, is the large and interesting player base without which CoA would become a void world, despite the good scripts and DMs running events. -
I've got favorites.
They're not the players who blindly agree with me or praise everything I do, infact I really find people who bother me to rave about how great I am are really annoying.
My favorites are the players who play interesting characters that I enjoy watching and interacting with. The characters with interesting personalities, ideas and philosophies. These are the people that I am likely to reward and spend time DMing for, because I enjoy their ability to weave a story.
The above being said; Don't be an ass-hat. Just because I don't like suck-ups doesn't mean I won't beat you with something if you rave to me about how much I suck.

Noone does, do they Cama?

Only, you see, the DMs here BUILT this whole server and put thousands of man-hours of work into its creation and maintenance and deal with more shit in a week to keep this game fun for everyone than you could ever imagine.
The least that we can ask our players in return is to show us some courtesy and respect when they're in our game world, talking about us.
If people really think we're tyrants, bullies, in love with kiss-asses, lame, ruining the server or something to avoid, I think its entirely fair to tell them one of two things:
1). Come talk to us and find out the truth.
2). Find another server and stop enjoying what we make while insulting us for making it.
And honestly, I've been on CoA pretending to be a new player and had people tell me this kind of stuff. People who spread these lies (based in your experience or not) drive off new players and make the player base smaller while saddling us with someone who clearly isn't contributing to the cohesion of the community.
Nope, I'd vote them off the island.
-
And honestly, I've been on CoA pretending to be a new player …
Wow… I'm the administrator of a chat for children, and we also do this to hunt pedophiles.
Still I'm surprised you do this as a DM. You must be devoted. ;) -
Mr Moloch is protecting us from pedofiles vigilantly. Don't want too many of those fiddling with our pixels when we're not looking.
-
Well, actually, I just think it helps to get a feel for what players are doing and how they treat new players.
-
And we still enjoy the game too. It helps, when the server runs us down, to recharge our batteries.
-
All lies, they only DM so they can metagame quests and plots to win with their PCs.
-
Theres been quite a few players over the years who I've had conversations like this and others with. Its always either funny or dull because their arguements are never justified at all. And when you try and make them see it from all the angles its just running into a brick wall, sadly.
