Dear CoA
-
Forgive me for suggesting it, but maybe the issue has less to do with what plots are actually going on and more to do with style? Maybe some changes in the DM team could spark some new creativity that people will find fresh.
Just a thought

I think there needs to be more Kung Fu. 8D
-
Some more active DMs would be great as well, I think they’re only three regularly IG at the moment. Abduct some people!
I know you might be reluctant to take some of the top players from the game world at the moment, but active DMs make the awesome come alive. Take the leap!
-
It is not just CoA having low numbers, most of the other servers like it are having low numbers.
-
Some of it has to do with hardware. Newer hardware can sometimes have issues rendering older video games.
The game is old, folks. I think it's a great idea to find more ways to make the game seem more new.
-
Players need to make the awesome with what is happening here and now. It is not an issue with more or better DMs, just players must make sense of the current situation and roll with it.
At the moment, I see player confusion with such a sudden change, especially East/Greencastle. I don't see any factions taking the lead with plots nor is anyone occupying Castle Crag and furthering the Slime Cult goals.
Second, the pro-active players who drove the Slime Cult and Easthaven stuff have semi-retired after all that chaos and that leaves the follower/reactive players with no one to conflict with. I was in the Cult, but I don't lead like glow or B-Rocky do.
Third, several plots that were managed by factions have dropped off and that has lead to a lull. The Greencastle intrigue has dropped off now that they control East. The Ramiel Cult has been quiet since Thaun left and no one has stepped up to continue the whole demon invasion plot that I enjoyed when I played my druid. Cormyr and Zhent are gone leaving huge holes of potential conflict/intrigue.
There is no druid circle at the moment, so essentially anyone can claim the High Druid position and lead the way.
I see everyone just reeling from the recent changes IC without a solid direction how or where we're going.

I think alot of people are worrying needlessly, and making more of the temporary dip in numbers then it merits. At the time of writing this post, coa is 32/55. The post thats most inline with what I think is really going on is Khamals. A general lack of direction or focus post the recent server changing happenings. We are in what was ment to be a transitional phase, but sadly dms, at least to an extent, dropped the ball and it has streched to the point of causing confusion, and a lack of direction or focus for the server.
-
I think it’d draw players back as well. Old players would be interested in seeing what the CoA Team put together if promoted appropriately. I’m sure players, both old and new, wouldn’t mind a onetime e-mail advertising CoA’s new project.
Would create a buzz. EfU haven’t been frightened to completely redesign their server and it doesn’t seem to have ill-affected their project. I’d be fully behind it. There will never be a better time to do it.
Do it, make this happen.

I'm kinda pregnant, so…. Yeah. I am actually trying NOT to be on as much. Although it isn't working quite well. Heh.

Wipe wipe wipe wipe wipe muhahhahaha!

I think the players and DMs need to have a discourse about what they want to see from the server in the upcoming months. We've had a lot of focus on characters changing the server ICly lately, but I think that only facilitates small changes (when I say small I mean things like a change in the cities ruler). What I think a lot of people would like to see are big changes, like the city getting decimated by the Grodd and everyone being forced to eek out a living in the wilds or things like that. It certainly couldn't hurt to get some ideas flowing and getting a better idea of where the player base and DMs would like to see the server going from now on.

@Undead:
We are in what was ment to be a transitional phase, but sadly dms, at least to an extent, dropped the ball and it has streched to the point of causing confusion.
A couple more active DMs, a couple of steps forth with the old/new plots and things will look much more bright.

Eh…I'm an enormous troll. And it seems every time one of my blatantly in your face troll evil concepts groups die off, the server goes into bore mode for me. As many times as I try to cull/grief the player base, I can't ever seem to get the Wipe I'm aiming for. I would have thought killing off an elf faction and playing a big part in the new changes of Arabel would help this. But the DM team seem hesitant to pull the reformat CoA button. Perhaps because it would mean loads more work than what it is right now fixing the bugs already still present from years ago.
What more can a guy do?
-
I just think its funny that LAST week, people were talking about how exciting and fresh Arabel looked as the DMs made big changes.
Today, it is DYING and stale and the DMs don't want to make big changes.
I agree, we need more DM coverage, most our DMs are getting hit by RL right now.
However, for 10 years, players told us they wanted more player influence on the setting. They've got it and are now complaining they want more DM influence on the server.
No offense, but some of you clearly have no idea what you want.
-
I want the other grass. it's greener.
-
For me after the events of last week I thought things really did look new and exciting, but now it kind of seems like the changes are almost superficial in some ways. To me it doesn't really seem like exchanging Lhal for Veneith has actually really changed all that much (maybe I haven't given that enough time, admittedly). I guess I was just personally hoping for more chaos, infighting, and threats to the social order then what came after last weeks event, but it seems like everyone just went back to doing what they did before all this happened.

Was the Manfred Kohlberg plot ever resolved?
-
I think the problem is less the direction of the server, and more the facts that there is large gaps of timezones with no dms. The server is a bit messy right now cosmetically, and because of both of these things you have a large population of palyers that have no idea whats going on and think the dms have abandoned the server for LoL, which in reality is only true of half the dms. This is compounded by the fact that the server is in such a transitional state right now.
I don't think anyone here is attacking anybody's work personally, even if they sound like they are, and everyone knows the need for real life oversteps the need to make sure CoA is at it's best. Basically, I think people just want to know that the DM's know the issues and are on it in some form or another.
PS sorry for hte pisspoorgrammer, but I is in a rush.
All that being said, I'm all for a leap of faith that a complete overhaul will be better for the server in the long run, but I've been an advocate of that for years.
-
I think the server needs to re-fill the factions already present!
