Spoilers and Secrets Petition

I can see the book IG as an alternative yes.
But a tome that requires you to purchase it before you can read it. I still strongly believe that having riddles and hints instead of the solution is far better.
I still very much believe that it is more rewarding to earn this and learn this. Perhaps I am in the minority. -
If folks want to RP learning these reagents there is no reason why they can't like anything else. I'm inclined to agree with Hellzyeah in the fact that this knowledge while can be acquired ICly provides real OOC advantages that not every player has. We aren't in the days of 55/55 anymore where this stuff could be relatively easy to learn in game because of the abundance of Wizard PCs or any other class for that matter. As Games pointed out keeping this knowledge secret promotes an inner dom vs newb circle and with our playerbase size that doesn't help anyone. Its another thing to forbid discussing IG info on IRC which to be honest I agree with because its harder to avoid spoilers on a chat channel. But someone writing an IG book in what is regarded as an In game is another. You -don't- have to read it if you don't want to know. This way players have a choice of which route take.

Have to agree with HY. It's not even as HY has shown all the alterations and as long as it isn't describing 70%+ of them it should be fine. Remember not all have the time to figure out some of the spell alterations (we do have a life besides nwn).
I do understand your feelings for having spent so much time on spell alterations and now not having the benefit of that as much as before. But compared to new players picking wizard it makes the game more balanced and fun.You can still test alterations and sell information. The reward of finding new spell alterations isn't gone either.

Have a Pilgrim where people can journey to ICly. It will give you a nodrop spellbook. It will feature puzzles and dangers and be a rite of passage for wizards. The book description will be IC, attained by IC actions, and DMs can easily smite for metagaming.

I think allowing players to write and publish books in game more easily is a solution if we really need one; put them in the actual in game library and let players read them there. Players have different philosophies on how CoA should be played and this option accommodates everyone.

The "scribing" system is about as simple as it can get IG. You have a quill, ink, and paper/books… I'm not sure how you mean "more easily"? To simplify it anymore would remove what rough formatting you can do already. As far as I know the "Library shelves" that hold books can be added to, but you need DM oversight/permission? first.
edit://I guess you could just hire someone else to write out what you dictate to them IG if you really dislike the current system. But that isn't really "easier" more than shifting the workload and multiplying it now because you have to type it to say it, then they have to re-type it in a slower pace with formatting instructions.

Hellz and I were talking about this on IRC and he mentioned that the scribing system really isn't good for writing longer books. But it would be nice if more library books on the forums were made available ingame.

Every library book you can find on the forums can be found IG, just takes a bit of time for me to add them all in and check them over. Some are more common than others as well. You even get paid for submitting library books

By the way, libraries have burned before, so it's not AS permanent as you might think.
Also, the weave is a strange thing, and can change here and there at mystras whim.
The book in question doesn't spell out every alteration anyway, seems pretty cool to me, saves us a job, we were going to have a few basics in a book every wizard got spawned into their inventory on the road to Arabel.

Come on old timers.
We've invested a disgusting amount of time into learning and exploring every nook and cranny on this server. This doesn't mean it's our knowledge to keep for our own benefit.
I'm sure one of the main reasons new systems and areas are added is so that everyone around at the time can get that feeling of excitement that discovering the New brings. Old Shit doesn't polish up as well as shiny new stuff.
When things are already learnt that just becomes a convenient crutch that those with the knowledge can use over multiple characters. It doesn't help with story telling and it creates a divide between old guard and newer/ casual players.
Lets be nice people and share our knowledge rather than being greedy hoarders. I know it's taken a lot of time to learn these things (years, in some instances) but lets let go and become better, kinder, more loving players and focus on the story telling and adventuring instead.

I'm going to repeat hat Orin (and I) said before:@Orin1234:
What if we added a component that was dropped by magical foes and on certain quests?
These spell page fragments would not be consumed with alterations, but the alterations would not work without them.
….
Perhaps they are added to a spell book, like the crafting recipes are?Excellent idea. Add in that a wizard can research them on their own, and once "found" gets a fragment, and add in that a wizard can "scribe" a fragment they know, just like a scroll, and we have a perfect system to support everything thats been mentioned.
I really believe it's the perfect solution.
No metagaming beteen a players characters. Spurs intercharacter interactions. Spurs magical societies. Spurs exploration.I've heard no one else mention Orin's idea, perhaps its the elephant in the room that is too big so we ignore it.
The ONLY drawback is that it removes the OOC puzzle aspect for those few players that enjoy that.Cunning, where have you been ?

FIOG? I have given up on that a very long time ago, when you can find someone, they do not know or they do not wish to share or trade
