The server loosing it's fun factor
-
I'm Old. When I get bored, I log off or engage in role playing. Few things go the way I want them to in CoA. But that is why I love CoA. If you are not a bit of a glutton for punishment, and cannot find the fun in losing, perhaps a change in game is your best choice?

Be the change you wanna see, if you're not enjoying the server then make the server different. If you aren't enjoying your concept, put it on ice and play something you can enjoy. Beating a dead horse never gets you far.

@verkosh:
Mastians player did cool stuff and got perks for it. His rivals for the warden job also happened to die.
if you don't like the Warden work to unseat them through politics or other means.
Whining on the forum with stuff you don't actually know about just burns out DMs and is rude to players who worked to earn these perks
This, honestly, speaks truth, from my perspective.
As to the "everyone is evil" notion - I've made a few NPCs lately with the express purpose of doing a little evil shenanigans - and couldnt find any evil people to work with. Everyone who came to the events I put on with those NPCs were GOOD. So I shelved 2 or 3 projects for it.

now I don't know how much of this is true, but I think it's all BS if it is. I Positive as Hell don't want to play on a Server run and owned by Shadowvar! if Shadowvar takes over, player options get reduced. some classes become restricted to Applications only, such as Druids. the shadowvar never had druids and never agreed with the whole Neutral aspect. there might be a new class options for monks called shadow fists or something, but all other styles of monk (including basic) would be an out right defilement to the laws of Shadowvar. so on and so forth, my point is Shadowvar are strict, slave driven dickwads. I don't want to play on a server that is run like that!
This would actually be fun if the consequences of a Shadovar invasion were felt like you described here; and if such an event happened this is how I would definitely favor it playing out this way. You want to change it back? Work hard start a revolt and kick them out.

I'm not sure how I feel about all this but having my character and well me as a player linked to it all is somewhat of a buzz kill. If you dislike how things are, you work to change it from an IC point of view.
I'll probably revisit this with some better advice at a later point when I don't feel like crap from having read through all this.

Welcome to playing a guard. Sucks, doesn't it? :D
This is normal, it happened countless times in v3 and 4.

Actually, its welcome to creating Adventure and Intrigue, the side affect of doing things that DMs want players doing and getting rewarded for it is the sour grapes from people who aren't as successful. I heard some people on the dracolich event who did not need to permadie because they weren't killed by the dragon fire decided TO permadie because they got so much bullshit accusations of DM favortism.
Folks, that kind of crap needs to stop. DMs reward players who make this a better place to play for everyone, if you give them bullshit and say they're "DM favorites" you're literally undermining the very players who do the most to create fun on the server for us all.

Moloch said this in another post but it's important.
DM Favourites are CHARACTERS.
DM Favourites are not PLAYERS.
Those CHARACTERS are even then, only "Favourites" while they are doing stuff that makes the server more fun.

I can attest to this, having been both. No players are favorites, some are really good at always bringing the awesome.

I got word that we where to have a shadowvar war, and this time, where are going to be made to loose. with the orcs killing everyone who could defend the city, that would leave Shadowvar a big open gap that there Agents can make wider. the political arguments are going on to make us not focus or rally all under one banner.
Uhm…. where the hell did you get THAT idea? I'd like for you to PM me and tell me so we can clear up this stupid confusion now.
A bit of free advice: Never take rumors as fact.

I dont know about you guys, but seeing players reaching positions of power that can either unite the entire region against them or make the whole place change by their actions and will - Gives me the feels. Kudos to the DMs for allowing that to happen and giving some more reigns to the hands of the players.
HenryArmstrong, if you have any concerns and wants to talk about things or even get some aid - Feel free to PM me. I would be delighted to help out.

Server is more fun than it has been in years imho, I haven't felt this excited since v3. The sky is the limit man you want to make something happen go for it, worse thing that will happen is you will fail but as long as you create fun for yourself and others around you than thats still a win.

I'm having a blast.

That's sad, honestly.
When I logged back after several months I've heard people speaking about your character in the spire. Enough said.
The worst time to get disheartened, keep on the good work!OP:
I hope you feel less sour by now, be it for reasons real or imagined. As with RL, things often go a different way here. I've had one successful character so far. His first and only glorious moment was his death. The day after it happened everyone on the event was running around with glowing swords as DM reward who visited 'my' event.
A story was told, perhaps not a fair one, probably still a good story. If you don't like the ending, ensure it ends a different way! Gather allies for it, and have fun! You probably have to give up bad feelings though. But I believe it's a place for everyone to have fun. -
We also never make the players lose, we have several possible results for anything large scale (and often small scale too) and even then, the players normally come up with something we didn't think of, and we create an entirely different outcome.
I don't know of one thing the team have done since I've been a dm that has had only one possible outcome.

Damn Lannisters with their gold!

I really wanted the CotD to win, destroy Arabel in a dragon rage, increase the power level of the server and let adventurers wage war against the wyrms. Sadly, not to be.
-
Increase the power level of the server meaning higher levels?
Cause if so, I say we retcon and let the CotD win. I'm down with this.

I also wanted Bhaliir to win, and had rebuilt the city with that in mind. Never got to use that rebuilt Arabel with a one eyed Lord Lhal living in the crypts of the Lady's House with a band of plucky freedom fighters.
