Threats, Ultimatums, Take-it-or-leave-it Deals

Of course players could always contact each other oocly before starting something like this to agree on an acceptable outcome for both parties.
For example if I wanted my law abiding character to become friends with someone whom in secret was actually a criminal! and then if and when it gets revealed have an epic chase where the criminal gets away but not before i get off a shot with my crossbow, hitting them in the arm/leg (you know, from drama) No need to actually make an attack. just some agreed upon emotes.
Now if this just unfolded naturally in game I sure it would end much different, there would be the threats and take it or leave it deals etc but sometimes if you know you are going to be doing something reaching out to the player can let you both craft something that is more interesting for both and for the other players.anyway, I think that sort of thing could be fun (if anyone wants to do the above, once i get back into the server, I am totally down for it! so pm me)

I don't know, I find it's always more exciting with the unknown, the fear of possible death etc.
Setting it up beforehand just seems fake to me. -
To each their own. I am more interested in a good story for all, even if I need to help it along. :) probably just the writer in me
-
I personally hate setting stuff like that up beforehand. Asking someone if they're cool with stuff as it's happening, i do that often though.

I have been involved in both sides of the ooc courtesy set ups….both while they were happening (<3 Tomppa) and over a long term story arc (<3 Red Hulk-- still look over my shoulders when I see you log in :-))
Both for me were enjoyable, and led to good story for everyone involved, I think. -
OOC setups are a great way to push a personal rivalry to the next level, or even to it's end in a way that is going to be enjoyable for everyone. But I like them to be exceptions, not the rule.
Best deal I've been involved in was my tiefling. Had a guy who was wanted for capital crimes I set him up for. Pretty big bounty on him. But I didn't need or want the coin. I wanted his soul for my master. The entire thing was a huge con where I played everyone against each other to get him to exactly this point. His end deal was to sell his soul and my master would change his appearance so the law wouldn't know who he was.. or I would tip off law enforcement on his location. Not kill him myself (boring).
He took the deal, and was burned/charred beyond recognition, and then his leg was snapped in half to give him a limp. Good times.

CB we may not have had set ups in the past but we have had mutual understanding of "we're not just going to start chugging pots and murder eachother" and it has always been a pleasure and some of the most intense RP before a massive showdown.
-
Oh yes, i like an understanding, but for me, i don't want to know if i am about to get murdered or spared… i need the suspense, but as was said above, to each their own. In no way bashing the playstyle or preferrence of another, just stating my own :)

I wanna bust a nut on options where, it aint DEATH OR SUBMIT yo, but wit a lil' bit of flavor fo' realz. At least up in tha beginning. "Convince yo' playa tha agent ta stop his thugged-out lil' pursuit of us, or next time, yo big-ass booty is ghon lose mo' than a gangbangin' finger."
Give playas a humane way out. Or, if you ARE bustin a submit or take a thugged-out dirtnap approach, offer a "escape option."
I be a gangsta yo, but y'all knew dat n' mah elven retainer of Thond, was once captured by a Mask Cult. While they debated what tha fuck ta do wit me n' mah playa, they left our asses enough time ta "escape" our jail cell, by leavin tha door unlocked. Y'all KNOW dat shit, muthafucka! They had most of mah gear, sure. But they allowed mah crazy ass a way out.Another cult, on another character, beat me down, n' informed me, dat it straight-up was time ta stop mah crazy vengeizzle approach. That if I persisted, I would take a thugged-out dirt nap. They beat me down wit SUCH force, dat they gave a slight Hint OOC, dat I was surely outmatched. Y'all KNOW dat shit, muthafucka! I have also been up in thangs where I gots a tell, while I was beaten down, sayin "This is tha part where you run away if you wanna live".
Yo ass dont gotta FD playas all tha time, nor make chizzlez where you either destroy a cold-ass lil characta "FORCING a paladin ta sign a thugged-out demon contract", is tha same ol' dirty as just cappin' his muthafuckin ass.
I be a gangsta yo, but y'all knew dat n' mah oldschool Bhaliir retainer, tried her dopest ta make playas turn on they playas, as a way out. If they then double crossed me, or lied ta me, I would bust a cap up in em. But at least they survived tha encounter. -
Did someone hack Thunes account?
-
I rather think he's made and lost some sort of bet.
:P

Lost his mind, more like.
