V5 Teasers Discussion

Is gold the only available currency from bioware?
Is there any possibility of CP (copper) or SP (silver) as currency? -
Nope! Just gold.

I can't recall if this was asked before, but I know it was asked frequently on IRC yesterday -
Will we be seeing new spells, feats, and classes added in with the haks once those are fully decided on? I feel like a lot of players are somewhat expecting this if haks are implemented.
-
Jumping off of games question will we see new sub factions pop up over time due to in game events such as an NPC leader dying or some other reason
Probably, that is something that we expect will happen. Even if a PC faction is really successful, it may become included as part of a metafaction if the PCs in it are seeking such an alliance.
That' sounds awesome

It hasn't really been considered. The main goal is to keep a hak download small enough that everyone can grab it.
Most the "spell/feat/class haks" are really big and not easy to shrink down unless we have someone who knows the hak well and could help rip it apart.

Sounds good. I hope someone steps up then! :D

I'd definitely like to see spell/feat/class haks and I am sure other people would also. Hopefully there can be a solution which can be found to accommodate this.

That is the solution! Most these haks are so big it would take MONTHS for the team to explore it all, balance it, fix it, repackage it. We'd need help.

Wildcard and I are exploring the NWHak utility and some other features, so hopefully we'll help with this.

I'm against haks, and to be honest, I can't say for sure I'll keep playing if they're implemented.

That's a real shame Organized_Chaos, but do keep in mind.
1). Some areas of the module will be available even if you do not have the haks. You won't see some of the new items, heads, and may not be able to see all the new monsters–but there would be quests and roleplay opportunities still available.
2). We're keeping the hak quite small to ensure it is an easy file to download.
3). We'll even try to set it up so that all you need to do to download it is click a button.
If you can download a movie on Netflix, you'll be able to manage this hak file. It won't be any more complex than patching NWN from 1.68 to 1.69.

I was under the impression haks are required to log into a server at all.. and overrides were the optional features available.
If people can still log into the server, explore, interact, have fun, meet veterans, etc… without the haks, that's great. I support them.
If at any point haks are required to log into the server, I'm against them with a passion.
Sorry I jumped to conclusions without all the information!

You'll still want it honestly, there would be lots of problems without it–but we did find a way to make the haks 'hidden'.
We actually ALREADY have them in the module. They are currently all hidden from the playerbase.
So our hope is that people will just download them once they get into Arabel and realize how groovy all the new stuff is. But you can at least still roleplay in some areas of the module without them.

viewtopic.php?t=147692 For those who want to get into hak pak editing in regards to class/spells/feats NightBane has graciously posted a beginers tutorial which deals with the basics with more lessons coming in the future.

Really, being so vigorously against HAKS at this stage in Neverwinter Night's lifespan is hard for me to understand. A decade a ago? Sure.. a game having a patch was kind of a pain in the butt, it wasn't heard of that often (most games that were out for a long time only had 1 or 2 at most), and internet connection speeds were just something awful. Granted, I know not everyone has a good internet connection still, but the times of not liking additional downloaded content (or even required downloaded content) are just flat out gone. There are games that require you to be on the internet to even play single player, really.
I know some servers with HAKs go overboard, and they leave buggy things in, and it's just messy.. but ours will be controlled, maintained well, and extremely polished. There's even an application in development (more or less beta or gold, actually) from one of our more clever tinkerers on the team that's going to allow you to click a single button to automatically download what you need from our server, it will place it in the folder it needs to be placed, and then with one additional click it will launch your game straight to our server. If we made this any more painless, the government would make it against the law for being a narcotic. 8)

It's really not about file size but rather about playerbase.
When i got tired of my previous server, i just started randomly logging into other servers in the lobby. If i logged without trouble i took my time to look around (like on CoA). If i couldn't log in or saw headless people running around, etc., I just logged out and went on. On very rare occasions i visited the forums but i was rarely convinced to d/l the haks.
You know.. I feel that servers with haks just willingly isolate themselves from most new players. Arabel can probably survive that given its dedicated playerbase though.
That said, if you guys are adding haks, please don't overload the server with them and make them optional. -
There will be at least one very exciting area for none hak'd folks to role play and fight/adventure in, and likely even some quest areas. It will be a sort of landing zone, it will then be as simple as typing/clicking a link, waiting a few minutes, then playing.
Its just a shame theres no way to make an object in game you can click that would launch the hak installer. That would pretty much rule.

How much of v4's history will be included in v5? Will there be a general nod to the past like from v2 to v3 where specific details were vague or will the majority of what happened in v4 be acknowledged in v5?

It's fifty years in the future, not an alternate reality. The past certainly happened.
