V5 Teasers Discussion

Will there be books around or mentions in convos or plaques on walls that drop names of some of the larger characters from V4 (and earlier)?
Like those in the this thread?

Yes, we actually compiled a list of specific nods to old player characters that we would want to see remembered with plaques, memorials, gravestones, cairns, ghosts etc. Once v5 starts, you'll just have to explore all around to find these references and Easter Eggs.

As they prove themselves though through loyalty and action, players can either decide to apply for membership in the Subfaction of their choice or may simply be invited to join.
Can PCs of a subfaction do this themselves or does the invite have to come from an NPC higher up?
-
What I'd like to know is how respawn will be handled in v5. I have never liked the fact that respawn even exists, in a pure roleplay environment.

We'll still have it. We are not a pure roleplay environment after all, and never have been. We're an adventuring game that features strong storylines and roleplaying. Emphasis on game, no respawning isn't fun for most people. You're free not to use it of course. :)

Not sure what you mean. If you're asking can a player choose to apply to a faction, then yes. They may do this at any time.

I think he is asking if a PC member can invite another PC.
-
PCs can ask other PCs sure, there is no application for these no application ranks, so the easiest way to join is having another PC invite you. There may or may not be a scripted means to, we've not quite decided, but it is looking that way.
-
Having a KoTMs style quest makes easier for people to join though the downside is that it removes the interaction with PCs. I think with meta factions being open to new recruits as they like being there will be plenty of people to induct them in.
-
On a second thought, maybe the initial quantity of subfactions should be reduced somewhat?

Adam's never respawned. Died three or four times… always had friends with him who brought him back one way or another. Respawn is for soloing, IMO.
The option of respawn has apparently now encouraged at least one character to begin making claims of immortality... le sigh

Just kill him then. He can't respawn from that.

I happen to know what this particular instance is about. Let's not mar this wonderful discussion with this sordid detail.
In happier news…yay spider mounts. :3

I would still like to know, what is the pit exactly? Is it another word for jail or will be seeing a different version of justice in v5?
-
Dear Mr Moloch
Will there be a Bhaliir?
The monster version?
Kevans son, or some sort of bastard or something?
You know you want to!

Hoping "Hardcastle" is a silly codename for Kevans long lost son!

Hardcastle is a canon noble family. We do try to stick to canon families; much as BG may hate the name. It was that or Hroar, and a noble family of engineers made sense for what we wanted the Hardcastle faction to be. Which was a much more serious version of the C0G faction with the malice and intrigue of Bhaliir and the badassedness of DeSchurr.
-
Well, could have been worse. Axehand and Battlestar are also canon family names. Who wrote this stuff?
Anyway, back on topic. With the way you are now handling areas (chucking out needless forests and saving space) are we going to see a more varied selection of "DMQ Areas" being used? By which I mean, in the past several DM quests lead our party to several different areas IC-wise but were all using the exact same map with the exact same layout. I've always assumed this was due to a lack of space in the module or something. I suppose you could also tack on the question of DM Quests/Plots themselves, how are they going to be handled? Will they be revolving around Arabel and the land itself or throw us into more distant lands and one-off visits to other places in Faerun and beyond?
Secondly, how are you guys planning to utilize food and drink now that the old hunger/thirst scripts are gone? Will they be similar to potions in which they give you a small boost to certain stats along with adverse effects, or is there a more complex and fleshed out hunger/thirst script being developed?
And thirdly, I've noticed this topic and I am wondering if the stance on custom classes has changed? I'll be all for it, but you'd want to finish up the Sorceror themes and Monk stances first, imo. Unless.. they're already done.

It was named the Silver Carnation in honor of the three main goddesses worshiped here.
Sorry for being nitpicky here, but isn't Ilmater a male deity?

DAMN! I forgot. He's always seemed like such a pansy, I forgot he's a boy.
