Dear Sir Adrian of House Iverlesk,
Last night, Mr. Nori of the Fellowship, Ms. Matilda, Daria, and myself traveled the road down south. Soon after the bridge, we spotted a small army of undead all over the road - perhaps in sufficient numbers to attack Aunkspear, or even Immersea. I suspect that these forces may have been raised by certain allies of The Castellan - the location of this encounter was very close to where we previously lost track of him.
It appears that our attack came as a surprise to the necromancers we found with them - as we apparently disrupted their initial plans to attack. However, their forces and arcane abilities were such that we were only barely able to fight through the initial waves - and unsuccessful in bringing them down. They and their forces then retreated towards the Deadwell. We continued to give battle, hoping to bring down the necromancers raising and leading them - yet then we were ambushed by surprisingly powerful undead orcs. These cut down Mr. Nori, Daria, and myself before we could fully coordinate ourselves. I believe I lost consciousness mere moments after seeing Mr. Nori go down.
An indeterminable time later, the three of us regained consciousness - laying at the feet of Ms. Matilda by the Gates of Aunkspear. It was a small miracle that she succeeded in saving us from those hordes. We were broken and defeated - and then we saw smoke rise in the distance. You can, perhaps, imagine the terrible feeling of dread for the poor souls we failed to save. This gave us strength to make one more attempt to run towards that horror once again, hoping we might still do some good. Alas, we came too late - the village already burned. I can only try to console myself with the hope that, perhaps, our initial intervention may have reduced their numbers to an extent that no longer allowed them to mount an even larger, even more horrible attack.
Please feel free to blame me, once again, for my lack of competence in battle. Alas, I swear I tried my best. These were innocent lifes at stake, not military men of great skill, intellect, and training.
I did not run. And if you do not believe me, ask that anointed dwarf of the Fellowship. It is said they rarely lie.
Kind regards,
-Elsa Brown
@orin1234 said in Crown Guard regarding the burnt village:
We were heading to Deadwell to investigate the Mausoleum, and before we could get there, we were faced by a large number of undead kobolds. At least 20. then some cultist of some human death god. We did not know of the village or the danger they were in, but we pressed on to fight the evil. We fought more kobolds, Then skeletons and then stronger animated bones. Followed by strong zombies, then stronger zombies, then Orcan skeletons and burning bones. Took down nearly 100 before we were over whelmed, but the half orc Matilda carried us to safety. While she got us away, the army of undead sadly sacked and burned a small village. We did not return in time to save anyone. I only hope some may have gotten away. We went to Bospir to see if they were next, but there was no sign of the force. Besides Matilde, there were myself, Elsa and Darrion. Was hesitant to travel with Matilde but she showed her true colors and will fight at her side any day. Darion showed hers at the end after the fighting and we be talking. Glad she left town.
Nori of the Fellowship
It would appear that Matilda priortised getting adventurers to safety rather than deal with the undead threat and let them approach the village, A charge of reckless endangerment may be apprioate.
