So what's a level 1 to do?
-
Starting out, I naturally answered the sendings and participated in the various quests in town. I eventually worked my way up to level 3, but had a bout of repeated deaths. Now I'm level 1, but all the quests I can do I've already done, and the ones I haven't I'm too low to do.
So what can I do?
I'd like to level up more so I can participate more with the goingson of the server, but it seems my options are limited.

Wait, friend. A server reset will solve most of your problems… ;)
Such a thing happens often... like every day or so.(actually I'm sure there are plenty of lvl 1 accessable quests out there you've missed... but they might be deadly as well ;) )
-
The server uses a timer system on quests. You can only do a quest once every 24 hours or so (triggered by a server reset of course).
You'll be able to do all those quests again soon.
-
Most of the low leveled quests have been moved to East Arabel, AKA the area you start in when you get to Arabel, just for new players! And yes, all you have to do is wait for a reset for the server. Then you can do all of those quests all over again.
-
always be patient, do not rush things, do the delivery quests you can, use the gold to purchase equipment and the consumables you need.
use the time you are waiting for the reset to Rp with people in the city, it is a good way to find people to do some of the riskier quests with, and to make friends in the city/server
the server is all about the RP and getting to know others, this is where the fun can begin, do not be scared to walk up to people and say hello
but do not be disapointed if they are rude or do not have time for you, simply do as i do, move on to someone else, you will find friends in the city, and if i am on with my characters shoot me a tell, i will find a in game excuse to help you in any way i can, as it is in my characters nature and as long as you are in areas where they frequent it will be not stretching believability, i play a character called Cilwa Viiv as my main, though occasionally i do play Rav, shoot me a tell with either of those if you see me on when you are on
oh and welcome to the server hugs you will have fun once you figure things out (and are shown, there are lots of very helpful people here)

I've been doing that, and I'm enjoying it. Thanks, I may take you up on your offer.
-
yeah don't feel bad. We all go from lvl "x" to lvl "y"
Just don't worry about it. I knew one player who's character was -never- more than lvl 2.
Then you have me made it all the way to 9th lvl and then back to 3rd. sigh
-
You can still participate in some healthy guildhall/market/inn RP.
Think of it as a chance to meet people and express your character's personality without the risk of dieing, unless youre a "ME SMASH" half-orc in which case, your personality will likely get you killed or arrested…
-
You can lead an expedition into the underdark at lvl one.
Just make sure you have some trusty folks with you.
Forget the number attached to your character and go do fun stuff, quests get old after you've done them once or twice.
make up a really convincing story about a lost sword some creepy old guy who dissapeared in a puff of smoke after talking, told you you have to go and retrieve, or the worlds gonna end, and rally some troops to go find it.
But, a convincing story…

i really do not recommend this unless the first level character is a monkey or something else with leet climbing skills, a couple of falls and it could be curtains for a level one character, you need a well thought out and rounded character if you want to go anywhere there is the potential of a climb skill….to many failures and you will be pretty beat up, or worse, and keep in mind that there are some pretty devistating spawns down there, one nasty area of effect and they will be carrying your body and stuff out.
-
Dude, you're level one. At that point, there's nothing to lose…
-
What that guy with the bad haircut said above me-
Also, now that you're back to level one and have nothing to do, you can explore!
Explore-explore-explore!
Then roleplay alittle if you want.

It's actually worse than that, you have to time when you log in, if you log in before 24hrs and the server has reset you have to wait for the next reset before the entries will leave your journal, which can take another day.
All I can say is thank god for the stonelands.

Don't listen to Darlene, She's way to cautious ;D
level one is a great time to start forming connections with other players and whatnot, and if you're having trouble getting to higher levels i'd recommend trying a different class, that's what worked for me.
-
Don't listen to these guys tellin you to go to odd out of the way places at levul won. That will only result in you and the 2 or 3 people you dragged along having new levul won characters immediately. Typically at levuls won-3 you should be build relationships and reading the forum for your gaols and shit you have in mind…...
Tho you did mention you were trying to levul up right away so you could "participate more" with the server. In that case in order to maximize your levul intake, you'll have to minimize your playing time. Set up a schedule for yourself, usually a good 4 hours straight qwesting allows you to log off and pass that odd gap of 16 hours it takes for all your qwests to totally reset. When ya get round levul 5 or 6 you can be more lenient with your playing time since plenty qwests are open for ya then. And you'll be able to do whatever you had in mind of "participating" in.
BTW...what the hell is so crazy on the server that a levul won has to do this to participate in? I'm sure every single plot on the server can use a levul won for anything except head to head combat (which is minimal) or leading expeditions to obviously extremely dangerous places.
-
Go for a combo of what Brock and Moloch said. If you don't mind a few respawns (read: could be like 20), go exploring. There are some really cool places on this server that you will never see unless you explore, or an explorer type drags you along.
If you're strictly concerned with getting some levels under your belt on the quick, then do what Brock said. Make some friends IC, quest, quest and quest some more. Take that time to show your friends what an awesome roleplayer you are and then when they get DM quests, they'll drag you along for phat experience and loot. Also, sometimes DMs say, "Hey, there's a guy doing something aside from Nada's/sitting in the market, I'll shower him with candy and butterflies," if you go exploring. Good times.
-
Actually lvl 1 is the best for exploring/DM events - no lvls to loose, am I rite fellas?
-
It's worked out very well for me. Nobody will take your stuff either because it's usually too crappy to be of any use. It's that adage from Fight Club, only once you've lost everything are you free to do anything. Totally applies to CoA.
-
But suicide kamakze exploring at levul won is so not worth the hassle off OOC respawning and redeaths trying to pull the monsters away from your corpse with the loot on it. Atleast at levul 3 you can cast invis, or have enough to buy a potion with handicapping yourself much.
And plus the OP seems to be not only a new character but a new player. What you guys are suggesting to him is borderline griefing. //troll

You are not your pot helm.
You are not your hunter's leathers.
You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are a level one nobody, and until you learn that-you are nothing.
