Make alchemy more appealing
-
Hello! After a long chat on discord I am airing my insight on alchemy and in my opinion what could be done to improve it.
First some background, Xavier is my first crafting PC and I was drawn to alchemy because it fit the character and I thought it sounded cool. He is a level 11 alchemist and therefore much time, gold and effort has gone into skilling him up. I also own a merchant stall.
I have essentially stopped doing alchemy for three main reasons.
-
Virtually no one is buying the items despite me offering sales on them, which i promote through sendings and already having them very reasonably priced (cheaper than npcs and other merchant stalls).
-
The new trinity system has meant it's a lot harder to get certain reagents so it's not even easy for me to make potions for my own use. Specific issue is catnip for cat's grace potions, which I've already made a suggestion for.
-
The most popular potions (barkskin, blur and shield) are not craftable using alchemy.
My suggestion to make alchemy more desirable would be as follows.
-
Stop allowing players to easily buy the top 3 potions in bulk from prestige stores. Either remove them or vastly increase the cost.
-
Make crafted potions better than shop bought ones. Everyone buys crafted weapons because they are better than regular ones so alchemists should get a similar perk. Either increase the spell level automatically for potions crafted by high level alchemists or create recipes to craft improved potions that have a higher spell level and are of course harder to craft as a result. E.g improved invisibility potion, which is at spell level 8 instead of the usual 3.
-
Add barkskin, blur and shield to alchemy recipes as well as protection from negative energy and stoneskin.
-
reduce drop rates for potions on quests, my character is overrun with potions he doesn't really need or want but I may as well keep them because no one buys them in the shop.
-
reduce the ingredient amount needed for potions now trinity has made it harder to find ingredients. I'm yet to find 10 catnip leafs to make one potion!
Happy to discuss further and provide more Specifics around my suggestions in due course.
Thanks

Following an IG discussion with someone , enchanting oil recipes would be another great addition to alchemy!!
-
I dont know if I can piggy-back off another suggestion, but I will.
Please?
Pretty please?PLEEEEASE?!

The issue with removing the potions from prestige or making them much more expensive is they cost a lot from NPC's.
It's over 300 from a barkskin and 200ish for a blur and a 7 to 10 quest pays 450 so you are at a loss already if you have to buy then at full price from NPC's
Also people shouldn't be forced to craft to get needed supplies. Not everyone likes crafting and sometimes there just isn't a crafter doing a particular branch of crafting
I'm all for the amounts of reagents needed being lowered though and the potions being able to be made far cheaper from crafting to encourage player economy

Recipe calls for 5...
BUTRecipes were made before the trinity changes were put in and can always be re-examined
-
@Echo my mistake then, apologies, I think I was thinking of something else, clarity potions with blueberries perhaps.
-
@V-Rage true, I think perhaps making the PC potions better would be more of a drive, people buy Silver weapons because they are the best and can't be bought anywhere else.
-
-
This would likely be better. So it's better and people will want to buyfrom a PC crafter but won't be negatively impacted if there are none active
-
i adjusted a few recipes that previously required 10 of some fruit or flower to use fewer
the Team is in discussion about CL levels for potions and we'll announce if anything changes with those
-
@Echo Thanks, I've decided to give another push on my alchemy to see if I can make it work so I will be making some more specific suggestions on new recipes and recipe amendments.
