Case File: Greg the Druid
-
Greg has created a magical storm to keep people out of the Hullack, and has been reported to and admits to attacking people trying to enter the forest.
He has also attacked a citizen in the smuggling tunnels and allowed their hand to be cut off, then planned to take them for "questioning"
Of course, Bryce.
I was exploring the old smuggling tunnels, seeking the entity that we spoke of prior.
I was set upon by the undead. Zombies. Being not much of a warrior, I was attempting to outpace them while delving deeper. They had cornered me, however.
At this time, a band of people appeared. I suppose there is no better term than "adventurers". Greg, an amnian woman with a lovely accent named Lucy, the orc "Rot", and two other faces I've not put names to.
Lucy and I spoke. It was welcome to hear my native tongue. We discussed the futility of her sapphire-crossed "good hopes" for a moment before we started to leave.
Rot, I believe it was, had accused me of stalling to make time for some fouler assault. In perhaps a cruel twist of fate, it was at that moment the rotting, undead Kenku attacked us. Followed by several skeletons.
The group took the fight below and, not missing an opportunity to be curious, I followed them. I stayed far behind until they broke through the front line.
You have seen how utterly incompetent I am in a fight. I'm sure you agree that it was safer for all parties that I remain out of it.
Once they broke the front line, cultists began to attack in earnest. During this much-thinned melee, I crept past the line and began attempting to decipher the cult's purpose.
In my seeking, I discovered that they likely were not infernalists, but instead necromancers. They were studying methods to make undead more resistant to Holy turning.
When I looked back up, most of the party had fallen, so I snuck back, and started checking pulses.
I was struck down at this point by a cultist, but came to surrounded by the adventurers.
They then immediately attacked me, out of some insanity that I was working for the necromancers.
Again- you have seen the magic that I am capable of. Little more than cantrips and armor.
I was thrashed from wall to wall by Greg, in the form of a bear, mauled by his claws, and battered by the rest. I had neither the chance, nor the intent to fight back.
They left me in the hands of Rot. He then took my hand with his blade as some grisly trophy, I assume.
I was utterly delerious for the next several minutes, as I'm sure you can imagine. I remember the group falling to chaos, Rot attacking them, them attacking Rot and each other.
When my mind returned, I was being escorted from the ruins by one of their number. For "questioning". I fear the sort of torture that implies, if this is their response to being weak.
Thankfully, Nethki arrived shortly after we left and removed me from their custody. She proceeded to disinfect my wound and get me back on my feet.
If you read nothing else, then read this. This cannot be allowed to stand. We must seek the strength which I am guiding you towards to stop this degeneracy from happening to men even more helpless than I. We must seek justice. Prove yourself.

For these crimes I suggest a bounty be issued for live capture

Your aware the reason Greg created the storm and is attacking people entering without oversight is because we have Slaad in the Hukkack right? You know those highly infectious outsider frogs, that if one moron got infected and then visted Bospir, could easly wipe out the the whole village in hours?
Leave Greg to his duties, he has his hands full as it is.
Soppi of the Redwood
-
I am also aware this does not give him the right to attack people.
Especially not in tunnels under the city far away from a forest
Bryce
-
Do you want to be the one who explains to our Queen that the reason the slaad escaped the forest was because you just had to disrupt the one person who had 100% success rate at keeping them firmly under control?
His methods are working, let him continue.
Soppi of the Redwood

Yes, don't mess with the forest witches, they'll curse you!
-A Clerk
-
Ah yes, he did a good thing (supposedly) so now he doesn't need to follow the law.
I remember that rule in the lawbook.
-A Clerk
-
The druid has a point, if these frog... things, are real.
-Clerk Pinwell.

Don't we have Levi and the Precept who could also look into this and perhaps devise a method which doesn't involve a destructive storm and attacking people indiscriminately who may want to hunt in the forest.
Bryce

It's a magical plague, but like all plagues one of the best weapons is containment. All it takes is -one- fool to spread it outside of the Hullack and we have Slaad infestions spreading like wildfire and a body count rapidly flying upwards.
And after having fought some of these stronger slaad first hand, I don't think most of the local militas would do well against creatures with hold spells and hides that mudane steel bounces off.
Soppi of the Redwood
-
This still doesn't mean he can create a destructive magical storm and attack people to prevent access to somewhere without consequences.
He also attacked people in the smuggling tunnels.
The request for a bounty for him alive stands
Bryce
-
Your are aware without that storm, the slaad would have escaped the Hullack long ago right?
Soppi of the Redwood
-
You continue to make excuses for his illegal activities.
It's almost like if you someone you think they should be able to do what they like
Bryce

Despite having been in the Hullac on a few occasions I have yet to see any sign of Slaadi, let alone the Planar activity that has been suggested by the Great Druid.
This may simply mean it is under control, which is probably the best case scenario and probably good enough reason for me to simply leave it alone for now. Can someone explain to me what we lose with access to the Hullac restricted? I was under the impression that even before the storms it was generally considered too dangerous to hunt in safely, and the general consensus was that it is Druid territory anyway.
My advice is to keep an eye on it and hope it doesn't get worse. Honestly there is too much other shit to deal with.

A nervous looking clerk leaves a missive...
By my will,
The Council of Twelve Peers is to resolve the crisis of the Hullack Wood, the Slaad has become a cause of concern to this Royal Highness.
If the Wildwalkers interfere with their efforts or fail to properly assist, any notion of the sanctity of their grove of legal privilege to maintain the health of the woods shall be redacted by Royal Decree.
This "Greg" The druid does not own the Hullack, nor does "Soppi" own the Redwood, they are Crown lands, to be dispensed with and used by the Crown as it so fits. As far as this Majesty is concerned, they are but servants of his personage, stewards and caretakers of his land, and if they prove detrimental to the administration and health of his kingdom, he shall dispose of them as Justice dictates.
By My Will,
Dictated but not read,
King Matrim of Arabel -
Want me to give a direct copy of this to Greg?
Soppi of the Redwood

Up to you.
I am not going to send your
stupidquestion to his Majesty.Clerk Robinson
-
I talk it over with him to make sure he understand the poltics The Oath has no desire to go against the King after all.
Soppi of the Redwood
-
Greg spoke open treason in the Redwood.
Claiming the Hullack is his domain and does not belong to the King.
A bounty must be issued or the Council looks weak
Bryce
-
Why not just correct him?
-A Clerk
-
Because he openly attacks people who enters the forest, Attacks people he dislikes and made a magical storm to keep people out.
And now openly claims he owns the forest
