v6 Builder's Guild



  • The final planning of v6 for City of Arabel is wrapping up concept wise. This means that initial building of new areas is beginning, we've got the new city and the Hullack Forest largely built. However, we need around 60 new areas built still. We're also going to redesign maps, and as many quests as we can, so they are fresh and new experiences. We'll need about 100 areas built for this. We also plan to add random exploration areas which will change from reset to reset for players exploring the module to and will probably need 36-50 areas for this.

    There are also many small scripting requests, easier things rather than complicated systems that we'll likely need done.

    We also need some help working with and compiling hak files, which is extremely easy, just time consuming to do.

    If you can work with the NWN Toolset at all, or are willing to learn (its honestly very easy, its like Legos from building to scripting in terms of difficulty honestly), please consider joining the v6 Builder's Guild. I'm getting the area building list together right now, have put together some guides on how areas should be built (simplified version, but some more complex guides will go for those with more confidence who can add in things DMs would otherwise have to add-in).

    Right now, my estimate is that we can have all of this built by the DM team in 15-20 weeks. Every one who joins the Builder's Guild and helps us build areas more rapidly reduces that time though. We have nearly 200 areas we need built and around 80 players actively using the forums. If even half of you helped us build quality areas, this will get done a lot faster.

  • FYI: I've created a group you can join called Builder's Guild. Sign up and you'll be in the group. Be a bit patient as I'm just getting all of this organized, but it'll help me to know how many folks we can get interested in taking on some of these tasks to help us reach our goal for v6. Its going to be really amazing what we're putting together.



  • Alright, folks, the Builder's Guild is all set and running. Lots of areas to be built, some script requests on minor things, and even a request for some poetry and writing going up. We're not quite at the stage where we'll need loot built, but that will begin soon too.

    My current time line to get all the work done is about 12-16 weeks. The more people actively helping on the Builder's Guild, the faster that can happen though.



  • If you've not joined, but want to, still time and lots to do where you can help make v6 a reality.

    Even if you've never used the toolset before to build, its easy - think Lego easy - to just make an empty area and put down some placeables. We should have the v6 haks all set by this weekend as well to download and play with those too.

    At some point, there is definitely going to be a reward system for players who spend the energy and sweat and tears (after hearing Puffy's feedback) to help us make v6 the best Arabel setting we've done. Honestly, I see more potential in this than when we started v3 and its Civil War (which was entirely concepted to weaken the focus on Cormyr's PDs and WWs and put more power in the hands of players to affect the setting and stories).

    Loot building will start soon too, once the last bugs and kinks are worked out of the haks.
