Simple question, how does a average player (with or without a faction backing them) get others to take notice or get involved in your plot lines either with offers of "greater good" "promise of treasure" "Money"

Demonstrating equal interests, or by pure persuasiveness or outright lies.

        Character:

John De'Notrevá: "Through honor, loyalty. Through loyalty, unity. Through unity, strength!"

A wise man once said: "Less OOC QQ, More IC Pew Pew"

Sometimes it takes risk to get the allies you need. Take risks and tell others some of the secret stuff, and hope that they will join you….

I want to explore Hullack forest to search for hidden secrets, animal behavior patterns and goblins camps. Knowing these patterns we will be able to take steps to prevent goblin and orc expansion of forces to a point where they become a threat.

Let's say the above point as a reference point how would i get a small group of players interest in something like this.

Make sendings and hope that people show up.

If Chuck Norris had performed in 300, the film would be called 1.

On my Candlekeeper, i liked to adventure alot, So alot of the times i would come up with the most ridiculous ideas.(Almost every idea was made up on him)

Ex: Since i patrolled the ruins regularly, i wasn't going to make a sending saying come patrol the ruins, i make a sending saying, ABOMONATIONS ARE SPEWWING OUT OF THE RIFT, COME NOW OR THEY WILL KILL ALL OF THE BABIES. IF YOU DON'T COME YOU LIKE TO KILL BABIES!!

Ex: (Verk really hated me for this, but it worked all the time) I needed Star Iron, so i would say that there is a clan of goblins somewheres in the Helmlands or cultists in the Haunted halls. People always showed up no matter how ridiculous the sending, and alot of times a DM would actually create the goblin clan, or the cultists which lead to alot of fun.

Talk to some of the factions who watch over the Hullack and ask for a tour, or hunting trip. That would apply to any area, ie. the ruins and Candlekeep.

When Im with people, I hint and mention certain things are the time. If I see certain players having the same interest, I'd go up to them and RP and ask them.

Also while progressing on plots, sendings even would help. For example, I want to go into the underdark to find something for a certain plot - players who do not know my character come, and some get drawn into that plot and help thereafter.

Thats how I do it anyway. Im always mentioning something when around others about my plots.

Eliphas: Arch-druid of the initiated [Lingering spirit]
Slavarian Akhar: Chilling at Kossuth's side
Akdul Mephria - Master Criminal - Went off to find more power
Using the power of suggestion to alter the perception of others.

sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
But i always try and manipulate a major DM plot to my advantage.
I.E. by saying that my event is part of he plot.

I want to go hunting for some personal plot item?
"Grodd clan scouts have been seen pushing intto [area x] Im leading a group to go deal with them"

                      • then when you are there divert the attention and drop hints to the party that you are also hunting something else.. some players will bite, others wont care..

The Universe is Hostile, So impersonal. Devour to survive. So it is; So it's always been.

I think Turbo hit the nail on the head when it comes to involvement. It takes a bit of persistence and patients to get others involved.

One way I have met a lot of new people is to seek out people who look like they're waiting for other people approach them. People wandering around, or sitting in the Guildhall, or sitting on a bench. Just walk up to them, ask them a question or introduce yourself. If you hit it off, you can find something to do together.

                            Rinse, repeat.

Some people will be rude and not acknowledge you, or just say they're busy (because the are going on a scripted quest), or will refuse to interact with a lowly noob. But the more you try, the more likely you'll be to find -someone- who will rp with you.

If you play to create fun for others and OOC be polite to them, it really helps foster bond with the players in the community

If on the other hand if you OOC are concentrating only on "the win" and treat other players just as mere pawns to your elaborte scheme of heroism, rarely will players try to relate to you IC.

I like gDarDogs approach. Its not hard to involve people, all you need is social skills. People like to join plots so getting them in is too easy, most just struggle to find plots to run or join.
