I noticed that the old crafting system has been removed. I was looking around the forum and in game and asking some folk but I cant figure out if this whole socket gem thing is actually in the game.

Can anybody tell me the whole story? I liked the crafting system before.

There is a new crafting system in game. It will become more apparent over time.

Gamwell Scathelock - Stark Wyvern 'Commander'

        Novo Mundus - Planewalker

Xool - First Ambassador of the Zhentarim

I found what I'm told is a socketed item, with its name is green.

However, is there a way to tell how many sockets, and other things the player should know about the system that can't be gleaned from the item description?

Sorry if it was mentioned, but that thread "Fear of the New Crafting System" is incredibly long.

In the original system, there was a way to tell how many sockets a socketable item had, but it will not be implemented in CoA, because the way it worked, it meant that it would remove all temporary positive and negative bonuses a character has when activated.

At some point, I might write a chat command that lists all sockets on all your items, when I have some time free.

So for now, no, there is no way to know. Other than try to socket stuff until it's full.

              What does this mean?

Do we select "use" on the item ?
do we target something else with it ?

is there a way to get the gems back once you tried?

If some poor English shows up in this post: and you're an English teacher, language-patriot or simply kind; please correct me. Thanks.

If your item is full and you use a gem, will it just fail or will that gem overwrite a gem you already have socketed?

Considering I have yet to ever see a gem or even a green weapon, I can't be the one to do it.

If anyone can confirm this, it would be cool.

Havent seen a single green item yet and basically did all the classic lvl 1-8 quests in the last two weeks. I guess the DMs did not yet have time to add the socket stuff to the loot drops on all quests yet or/and it is very unlikely to find.

Maybe the original intention was not for them to even be in quests, just in the server, around, somewhere.

Probly not though, as some have been put into quests.

Also, people have found this stuff as there is a green item sitting in a chest which I'm hoping someone will do something with.

I have a character with a gem and there's a cloak for sale, but the gem I have is +1 fire damage and I don't want a cloak that is that warm.

I know groups/people that have green items and gems in their possession. Just about one of each, though. And green weapons have shown up.

There definitely are socketed items in some quests. It was announced somewhere (Day in the Life of a DM or something) but I had found one before that on a low-level quest.

I guess I just have shitty luck then.

I do my fair share of questing and have done most of those available to lvl 7 and below and have yet to see anything that resembles a gem or a green item.

I know of one person who has a green weapon, that has some properties on it… Does that mean at one point they had a green weapon, that had no properties, and a gem, and by targeting the gem onto the weapon it gained the properties ?
