Making money at high levels without questing.
-
I'm interested to hear suggestions for this since i make a -lot- of wands and so find myself short of wand-making gold a lot of the time, any suggestions? (let's hear it for both evil and good aligned since i think both are relevant to this discussion).
How can high levels go about making gold (if they're not merchants) without doing quests that doesn't require dm attention?

Beat up newbz, yO!

If you are making wands and have no money then there is a simple solution.
You are not charging enough.
This happens all to often. Wand crafters get in needless price wars and end up charging only a pittance over the cost of the wands crafting. Make yourself a bloody profit!
-
I don't make wands for profit, i make them ebcause i heal people a -lot- when travelling ;)
-
Ah well in that case. Sell sell sell! :p
-
If you need money, plot. Plotting is the best xp and gp train there is.
-
Well your a high cleric… so go beat up a few dozen gobo's or other humanoids if you just need supply money. There some nice area's for them.
-
Well, i don't mean that in a bad way at all, but if i wanted to do farming i would play something other than coa. Polaris' suggestion is the best one so far and the only one i'm currently pursuing. ;)
-
Well, You could "adventure" and find bounty things.. those pay decent I think if you happen upon a lucky spawn or such. This can get other people involved too because you can take people about exploring, adventuring, and the like.
-
You are an ilmateri. If you heal so many people, ask them to give money to charity.

What do you mean exactly?
-
Plot. Come up with your own goals, your own plans, your own agenda. Push it in a way that's involving, fun and inclusive.
Rewards will pour in.
-
Plot is the most overused term in the history of Arabel. It's a stale way of saying do something that isn't questing that will allow others to play along with you.
Easiest way is tailoring some form of money-making to your concept; for example, a character who leads a band of Crown loyalist outlaws and dispossesed nobles who seek to reinvigorate the Crowns power within Arabel might steep to 'banditry' in the form of tolls crossing into certain parts of the Hullack or the Thunderway - It involves, it generates conflict and it makes money.
-
High levels is impossible to make much XP or gold off questing. So you plot to do something, or do something that may or may not make money. One time I needed gold, so I robbed Mertio's.
Dunno what a good character would do for XP or gold though. Hold tournaments? Raid a goblin camp thats threatening Eveningstar? (Done already, but look for something new?) ectect

1. Quest the higher level scripted quests (Frosties, Drow, Barbs, Wyvernwater etc)
2. Kill giants and turn in their heads.
3. See suggestion #1.
Plotting costs gold, it doesn't give any.

@Khamal:

I agree 100%. It's where all the money goes.

thats great, but you arent always gonna get a DM to let you rob an NPC. Doesn't seem all that inclusive to me, it would have to be a fairly random side part to what your characters doing.
Having said that, if your already entertaining a lot of people with your character, and you talk to a DM about needing some gold for something specific that wil generate more fun, I'm sure you could arrange something.
Gaining general gold, for general 'maintenance' of your character, is something else though. And you do have maintenance costs, especially if your character is wanted, or hunts people. You might need stealth potions, you might need to use potions/wand charges getting somewhere to lay an ambush, which will also cost you gold in consumables in the attack. If the person your attacking has friends with them, or is high level, or BOTH, its gonna cost you several thousand gold to stand a chance of the fight being epic/fun.
Equally you need to use comsumables to go with groups adventuring looking for reagents/other stuff.
So, plotting, while a very good way to make gold, isn't really a complete fix, because you might use gold faster than a DM can run your next 'event'
Having said that, at high levels, grab a buddy and kill huge goblin spawns, giants, malar panthers, cormyrian mountain bears, and stuff.
I dont have a problem making gold with my lvl 11 druid, and I barely quest at all, even when I was level 10. First character thats had no issue with gold really.

Druids are another story, AE CMB + barkskin + stoneskin the CMB = pwnage of road spawns without having you to do anything.
-
I stab stuff.
But yeah, I guess you could do that.
