True, so true. It all depends on what happens IG really. My character William has been tempted SO many times in the past to go evil. He might have just done it to depending on who won in the fight between him and Vulno. Will ended up winning by 1 hit litterally though, so he's pretty much set in stone now. :P

I think there is a balance. Too set in stone, or alignments tend to also make people seem like comic book super heroes or villians. The nasty bloke without any shred of humanity will to me always seem… two dimensional rather than like a real person. And the same goes to the good guys. To me fanatism can be fun on occasion, but too much of it and it becomes inhuman.
I suppose that is why I always hated Superman in the comic books and tv series. He always won, always stayed the good guy, always too unflawed for him to be real interesting.
My latest concept bounced around a great deal. But i always tried to have it make sense. People should have a breaking point. Because honestly, the fearless super hero who always dies the hero, never falters, never has anything but perfect thoughts and ideals is likely the most dull characters I have ever encountered.
We cant all be william wallace who cries out freedom at the end of the movie...

As with all other things, it's about moderation. Superman is a great character, but when the world is filled with nothing but Supermen, he's boring.

This. A million times this. Across many games I've seen people ping-pong character change far too rapidly that it was incredibly obvious that the player changed their mind, not so much the character. To the point that it seemed really phoney that suddenly they were going back on a big character shift.
What about weak willed characters?
That's a different kettle of fish. I certainly would give props to anyone who plays the snivielling character that flips sides, etc. always looking out for their own skin.
Seeing someone who played a more strong willed character shift, and then suddenly change their mind within 24 hrs with weak reasoning is more what I was getting at.

The key, I'd say, is that it makes sense above all else. To you and to the community. If you're going to do a life-altering shift for your character, make sure you're not doing it out of convenience or flight of fancy. A lot of people fall into this trap, and once they've gone through it they don't tend to realize their decisions become watered-down characterization merely for the sake of plot or interest, until after the character is dead, or worse, not at all.
