Tech questions

In the end my pc has been fried. I recoveredsome data but, apparently, what i recivered won't help me toplay with my old pc anymore. The solution is that i buy a new low cost pc.
So here are the questions for you tech guys:
first pc:
Acer with win7 (can nwn run on win7?)
pentium t4400 2.2ghz
acer nplify 802.11
15'6 screen.Second pc
acer win7
amd anthlon II x2 2.1 ghz
mobility radeon hd 4570
17' screenBoth are laptops and price difference is less than 100euros so it makes no big difference.
Which one should i choose?

In my opinion the key questions are:
Is there a resolution difference between the screens ?
and do you have a size preference?Personally, I prefer a 15" ultra-high-res. (16x12 or 19x12)
Others prefer a 17" low-res. (14x9)The ergonomic aspects will usually far outweigh other items in the long term, assuming the other details are somewhat similar.

With laptops, you'd probably be more worried about its total max RAM cpacity than anything else. Seeing as they become outdated and a bitch to upgrade, its best to find out that first.
But yes, NWN can run with windows 7 after graphical driver updates, and yes its usually better off you getting the intel processor.

You should choose a low-cost tabletop. Laptop… No, nononono. You get more for less if you go for a proper PC, with easier to fix insides if anything ever blows up, and the most important question: Are you going to chuck it around continuosly? If not, then don't go for a laptop.
(as a sidenote, my samsung N150 mini laptop runs nwn, with win 7, but I wouldn't go questing with it. Done some RP with it in school every now and then, though)

I play NWN in the kitchen, in the den, and sitting in bed. Rather hard to do with a non-laptop. As far as requirements, a laptop 2ghz P4 with 2GB ram and Mobility radeon 9000 is okay for questing, as long as you keep the resolution at 12x10 or less. Thats about a US$150 used laptop.
Having hardware video of some kind is key.
That single-core P4 with HW video is better than a a core 2 duo without it, and as good as a i5 with integrated - but nowhere near as good as a i5 with a business-class graphics such as a NVS3100.
Yes, it is all from recent personal experience on COA. -
Second PC, if I were to choose.
The larger screen and mid-range ATI video would run NWN fine. You can't go wrong with an AMD/ATI combo (don't listen to the Intel hype, its all in the name).

hands Nepris a copy of 'Rage'

Normally I'd agree, but that game raped ATi cards for a good week or two before the fixes came out. So yes, blaming the game is a viable tactic.
Regardless, Intel and Nvidia are the most supported card/chipset. Its best to go that route for a cpu neophyte.

I'd vote Intel/Nvidia if you wanted something a bit more . . . stable. The fight between ATI/AMD and Intel/Nvidia is more than just in name. They actually go back and forth, imo, with chipsets that work well with each other. It's just that in my experience there are fewer crashes with an Intel chip.

if you have 2 laptops to choose from in the same store, see if the salesperson will let you run a comparison, provided the machines have internet access
go to "can you run it" and use a recent game with moderate requirements and see how they compair with the "benchmark" game
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/intro.aspx
since the thingie they do to the computers needs to download something to run you will have to get the salesperson to help you, when it finishes and shows the report it gives a fairly decent list of things to compair even i am capable of understanding
