Restructuring of Arabel.

don't take an observation as an insult. As I said, South looks and feels like a real place, while Central doesn't seem any different, its just got more locations from elsewhere. Adding in random placables, merchants visibly progressing construction and other such things would add to it. In not saying the city engineering looks lifeless, just that it still looks like an unpopulated city still.
people make messes and make an impact on their environment afterall
-
No, I don't take it as an insult at all. I'd like to add more life to central myself.
-
Some contructive critiscm from me, I'd prefer the noble houses to look more regal, though I do like the look of the DeSchuur estate; very militant looking, but perhaps add some statues to it like you suggested.
Also, I hope the mage guild will continue to capture and 'nuder' dangerous animals to display in their menagerie.
On the flipside, I love the new look of the Courts exterior.
-
East district is a very good thing from a time mechanic of players - most important merchants and craftimg supplies finally in one district.
But yeah, I do agree that Central's a bit bland, still better then old central tho.
-
I always liked central and its much better now, I always imagined it was sapposed to have large open streets, very roomy, its a rich district! I agree that it seems a bit empty, but the game is old and there probley isnt alot you can do without making it way more laggy. Maybe a few more doodads placed here or there? Statues or something.
The only part of Arabel that I still thing is a bit "meh" is west Arabel, with that larged raised section with all the merchants and all the odd waterways and stuff everywhere, not to mention there isnt bridges over a couple of the water ways. It just seems like its sort of messy and not as "city like" as the rest of Arabel.
-
I'll take suggestions for statues!
-
Maybe something about the past influential members* of Mage's Guild?
- and the members Guild can say it's proud to had ;p
-
Nikko's in East where Fezznick used to stand, so maybe influential retainers of DeSchurr and Thond outside their respective estates?
-
suggestion for statue
Goldfeather memorial.
Something like Lhal holding a sword high in the air, bunch of people kneeling around her.
-
A statue of Rabbit presenting the sword to Myrmeen is fitting, I think. Also, I think its kinda silly that Thond and DeSchurr are next door neighbors now. A final note, I haven't had time to play lately, but logging in for the first time since the immediate reset; Central seems a lot better already.
-
@Bolthor:
Also, I think its kinda silly that Thond and DeSchurr are next door neighbors now.
And the famous Deschurr Fortress that once housed the Green Dragons is now more of a Deschurr Watchtower. Understandable that they've less significant roles to play now, but it's a bit of a nosedive from their hay-days not all that long ago.
-
I made them neighbors on purpose!
And DeSchurr's fort is a fort still, the thing is, we can't have a city where a single building takes up 1/4 of a map. Its too resource intensive for a module of our size.

I suspected that was a bit of the rationale, and besides, I think the new look is representative of both houses. On one hand, there's Thond with a nice merchant's estate (not to mention he's lost a lot of wealth due to IC reasons, right?) and DeSchurr with a fortress and sentries posted around and atop.
I'm biased though; I'm a big fan of the changes.
-
It be nice to add some flavour to them being neighbors, have the two guards squabbling with each other or have a dice-game going between the two in the alley between them.
-
I do like the idea of a statue of the Trumpeteer in the queens court. I would say one of Rabbit too, but since he already offered the suggestion himself I say screw the conceeded bastard!
Jk, one of each would be real cool. They are the two who made the new queen, even if Rabbit gets all the credit.
-
I appreciate and enjoy the changes made to the Thond and Deschurr estates. They much better represent the dignity of both those houses.
-
The city seems a bit more closed in now, which I think better represents how a city back in the day would be built. The windy streets and narrow side paths are nice to. Plus I'm looking forward to finding whatever new areas have been made with the space that got cleared up!

Statue of Dond
Description This ancient and moss covered statue seems to be an effergy of a Knight of the Merciful Sword. Wether it be design or a freak act of erosion, it appears to be cross-eyed.
Shield of Ettore
Description A mirror in the shape of a shield. If caught at a certain angle, a strange inscription reads: Y O U B U Y Y E S.
-
If we are going to be naming things after players, I want a door named Olouth's door. It shall be the one people leave and come back through most often!

That should be a buyable item IG. Rali could sell shields stamped with the name Ettore - and inscribed on the back are the words "YOU BOUGHT SHIELD NOW"
