Light and sneaking
-
A question about game mechanics - it says in the hide skill description that having a "low light can provide a bonus".
The only mention i've found of light being related to stealth is regarding spot DC on NWN Wikia:
+5 DC at night if the spotter does not have a light (or darkvision).
Anyone have a better idea of how light plays into stealth?
-
there is a penalty applied if you yourself have a light i am sure, but i wasnt aware of any bonus otherwise.
-
Just use your common sense: don't use light, stay behind the victim, stay behind object, avoid zones with light (i.e. don't hide in front of your "victim" wearing ring of bright light).
I think somewhere there was a list of benefits/malus that consider all those things, perhaps in nwnwiki, but I don't know how it is implemented in CoA.

Is the light from a lightpost scripted into the module?
-
It's all hardcoded.
-
It's all described very qualitatively, my only confusion is from the part saying "low light can provide a bonus." I was trying it out offline before and having some bright light ring or a torch made hiding a lot more difficult. I couldn't really pin down if dim-light was easier than no-light to spot.
I suppose it could mean low-light in terms of less than bright areas rather than the item property: low light.

The actual DCs are explained there:
http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Spot
Because the bonuses are applied to the opposed spot check instead of your hide.
-
What is the base DC for a spot check, before any modifiers?
-
The hide skill of the creature you're trying to spot… which is not a 'DC', to be precise, but just an opposed skill check :P
