Fear of the new crafting system

So if I magically poop out a +4 Holy Avenger Keen Halberd with +3 to CON and STR and immunity to knockdown, do i have to let a dm know or not?
:P

If you can poop out a halberd, you need more help than what DM's can offer.
But yes. Any item that you would covet and sell your mother to keep, you definitely need to let DMs know about.

thanks for pulling the little bit of usefulness out of my shitposting i was drinking yesterday

So with this change making the craft skills moot, does that mean mundane crafting be over with? Will we still be able to craft mundane clothing, weapons, armor, et al, be they masterwork or not?
I actually enjoy mundane, custom made stuff. It doesn't even have to be enchanted to be cool. -
As long as you can modify things, it shouldn't be a problem not being able to craft them from scratch. You'd just need to buy the base item then modify it. Would be nice if you could customise mundane weapons like this, after buying them from a merchant.

There was a place I used to work where every Wednesday the boss bought us pizza for dinner. There was a nice high-end pizza restaurant across the street, so everyone would be bickering and cajoling on whether to get the artichoke/chicken/tomato or the california oriental mixed veggie or what-not… and finally one day one of my coworkers chimes in, from his desk off to the side...
"Can't we just get pepperoni?"
Now, I put forth that anecdote to get to this:
What if we just want a +1 enhancement bonus on a weapon on this new system, so we can hit things with DR? Honestly, I could care less about the chicken/artichoke/sundried tomato. As a mid-level character, I just want pepperoni.
-
You can get a +1 enchantment too.

I'm getting a feel that the new system might be tied to "ingredients" (like firebeetle bellies, vials of dragon blood, darksteel chunks, ironwood, etc and lots of new stuff that can only be gotten from certain quests)…
Would this be anywhere near the truth?
Also, Is it still possible to modify the looks of clothing/armour (through a system like the old or through some new system, and if it works like it used to, does it still require skillpoints/crafting choices to dye/change the appearance of a piece of equipment)?

It's not that complicated, it's pretty simplistic.

You'll be able to modify appearances and dye stuff without skillpoints/crafting choices, or maybe an NPC will do it, like with a mirror/armour stand. There are no crafting choices or skills anymore.

Ew. That's what they do on Narfell and Efu. I played each for about a day and stopped when it was going to cost my PC hundreds of gold to modify two or three bits on an otherwise fugly piece of mundane clothing.
Personal preference, I like the built-in NWN modification commands. The only shortcoming I see to them is the inability to address the newer clothing/armor styles. Would that be fixable?
-
Only problem I see with the armour stand thing is, you have to go to the actual place to do it, whereas, with the normal stuff you can run and hide somewhere, then modify your outfit, as you can do it anywhere.
Guess you can do anything like that by just being prepared though and making things beforehand but still, I liked being able to modify stuff whenever/wherever you wanted.

It costs hundreds of gold right now, if you haven't noticed!
I think it should be a fixed price for modifications.

That's pretty lame, though, modifying your armour in a few seconds while hiding from someone.

Yeah, bad example, and, I can't think of any good ones so yeah.
Fixed prices on modifications are all good, failing DC's on modifying things sucked big time.
On a side note, I'm hoping we get one of the modification dummies/npc's on the road to arabel, that would be nice
-
I don't really get the fact that there are no skill points used or crafting choices. Sounds like everyone will be able to craft everything? OR nobody can craft anything but they can buy stuff from a merchant and modify it given the time and effort to quest etc for the modification requirements.
If this is the case then meh. Playing a crafter/merchant was fun and it doesnt seem to make much RP sense that anyone can whip up a sword. Thats going on my assumptions anyway.
-
No one will make swords. It's not crafting, because you don't really craft anything.
Crafting is boring. It's not what we want the focus to be on. We want to focus to be on interesting and intriguing stories, not the story of putting a handle and iron ingots together every rest period.
-
Right well I think its a top notch idea. I havnt read everything about it but when we it be out for everyone to use and will there be a little tag note telling one how to use it. Plus I would love to see thing's where you can put your name on the armour/wepon you made. To labal it your's or something. And then mabey someone has to pay a little coin to remove that name. So when its stolen it's like someone has reworked a little of it a removed the name. You get where im going with this. But I tend to overcomplicate thing's. So ya. Just my idea.
-
Yah, with the number of scripters we have available AND the number of hours they can dedicate to scripting in one week, we tend to shoot for simple stuff.
-
I'd rather find a +1 stick in a cave…than have someone sell me a +1 stick. More loot less crafterz. <_<
-
I'd rather pwn and loot the person who has a +1 stickz

The items I have looted or been given by an NPC have been far more important, story wise, to my characters over the years than the items I've bought or comissioned.
Having said that, I'm still looking forward to the options that will be available.
