where do I go when I want to roll back with the beamdog client?
-
@spiffymeister Do I tell you how to spend your money, Sir or Madam?
Do I dictate your choices on what to buy, or what your consumer choices should be?
The answers to both of those questions would be NO.
Please do not presume to dictate mine.
Considering EE comes from Beamdog, and not Steam, forgive me if I have the stupid idea that it is better to get content from the source rather than through a second or third party.
I'm so terribly sorry if this point of view, and this right of choice I have, somehow inconveniences you.
Now that we've had a frank discussion of views, I offer truce, and let's get back to figuring out where this problem resides. Because it might actually be beneficial to everyone else (if annoying to you, personally) to find out.
It certainly has my interest piqued.

@echo I'm going to ask a stupid, but important, question: when you compiled the list of haks, did you do so using the module's hak folder as a guide, or the "Module Properties" screen from inside the toolset?
Is it possible there's a hak in the mod properties list that is not reflected in the hak folder, and may reside elsewhere?
I made the 7z files based on what's in my \Documents\Neverwinter Nights\hak folder. I have 40 files. The three 7z files contain 40 files. The tlk file contains the one and only tlk file that I have. I have everything needed to log in, therefore if you have what I have, you should be able to log in.
-
@echo So, you're saying it's not even worth the time/effort to compare the two lists?
If this is beginning to become a chore for you, I'll understand. It's got me bugged, too.
-
Uhm... what? I never said it wasnt worth time and effort. I've given this a lot of time, already. I'm trying to help you out, man! I've compared the two lists. MORE THAN ONCE.
Hubby just asked: "What is the path to his hak folder? "
Did you put the Beamdog Neverwinter Nights folders in your Documents folder as I have in the image above? Are you certain that the files are being pulled from the right source?
THis is the haks list in module properties. the ones with the red dots correspond to the ones in the 7z file. The difference is that in the 7z file you actually have 3 EXTRA files. (There are 37 in the mod, 40 in the files)

So, to answer your question, I used both.

@echo Thank you. That wasn't rebuke. Just asking if you were giving up, was all.
I've been very appreciative of your efforts.
I'll continue to work from here on it. If I find anything, I will let you know.
To answer your question: I have them copied to both libraries (in c:\Documents
hak, where Beamdog client resides, and in the "Native" NWN hak file) -
You dont know me very well. I'm far too stubborn to give up.
-
@echo Me too!
-
Steam is free. If you bought the game from beamdog, it’s also free on steam. Zero money spent.
-
I do not know if this could be of help, but I've, out of curiosity, looked where my hak files were. They are NOT in My Documents/Neverwinter Nights/hak folder at all (in fact, that folder is empty). Steam downloaded them in my steam workshop folder.
Have you looked in your nwn.ini file to see where NWN is looking for the haks? (was reading that you can actually change the location where its looking for the haks. Not at home currently so I can't check. The nwn.ini file should be in your My Documents/Neverwinter Nights folder)
-
@theminionofarabel said in where do I go when I want to roll back with the beamdog client?:
Steam downloaded them in my steam workshop folder.
He's not using Steam to launch NWN. Neither am I.
Edit: That said, Minion might be on to something.
Open your nwn.ini and see if it says something like
HAK=C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\Neverwinter Nights\hak
-
@echo Was waaaaay ahead of you on that one. I changed the nwn.ini file a week ago. No good.
Internet Scuttlebutt has it that Beamdog/Steam are not playing nicely with one another, and that Beamdog client cannot always access content generated by Steam, but Steam can access content generated by Beamdog.
We may be seeing the beginning of competing "walled-off" versions.
-
@spiffymeister Mystery solved! It is a problem with compatibility between Steam haks and Beamdog haks.
Beamdog v8199 will not work with Steam v8197. Hence "missing hak files".
-
How curious.
-
Glad you got to the bottom of it! I didnt give up - but I did go on vacation :)
-
While the mystery might have been solved, what about the issue?
@MattNoto, can you play or not?(It bothered me I had to use steam as well. It also asked me more money, but smart people told me my life would be easier... If what @SpiffyMeister says is true, and I could just use it on steam for free with paying the beamdog price, I'm really annoyed with smart people. )
-
@aronff Forgive me, but I got very busy with work and didn't even try. I have both Steam and Beamdog now, and will see if I can get in sometime this week.
