The Next Big Thing….
-
So I have zero game time in NWN these days but like to pop back on these forums just out of curiosity to see how things are. Usaully this involves me poking around at recent in game events and trying and convince myself I have time to get back to playing again. But that never seems to happen.
I can't help wonder however, about what happens when eventually noone plays NWN anymore. Aot of us get older, move on and new players will no doubt get scarcer. Will we all slowly diminish as a community and go our separate ways, maybe keeping in our own little circles of friends or will we be lucky enough to have the "Next big thing" pop up and replace Neverwinter Nights?
Thoughts?

I am not very optimistic. I m pretty sure I ll never find another CoA. Even though I was never a prominent player here the atmosphere at some points was unmatched. It may be that it clicks what I like in an RP server.
NWN2 has gone a long way from the bug infested game that it was, but what's the state of the existing servers and community? No idea.
I get the impression though that NWN CoA community is not dwindling the last 3-4 years, or maybe it does but too slow to notice. TBH I was not actively playing this last year (I need to adapt to marriage… yeah we do grow up)
I am though occasionaly putting some hope in projects like this
/topic/17554In fact once its out I would be very tempted to try and build something in Shards online.

If I had the time I'd work on a Shards Online version of CoA for sure.
-
At first I wasn't so sure, but Shards Online is shaping up to be really formidable, even in pre-alpha. I can't wait to see what comes next with it. Potential successor, I think.
-
I'm not too concerned if it will live on or not, it's fun what we are doing now and it is steadily going forward. We do not have the numbers we once did but it's still a wonderful community and everyone is keeping the world alive. Hopefully something similar will come along, but I very much doubt there will be anything quite like nwn ever again.

Shards Online has a lot of potential, one of the DMs from Tales of Moonsea which is our NWN2 sister server is looking into transitioning over should it actually be viable.

It doesn't feel hard at all to me to imagine myself playing CoA once I get to stop working somewhere around 2055… :D
However, fighting cancer atm, so I'm a bit more interested in actually returning to play CoA than finding anything to replace it on the long run.

Damn, Aron.
All the best to you. Take care of yourself. However, fighting cancer atm, so I'm a bit more interested in actually returning to play CoA than finding anything to replace it on the long run.

I echo what Strawman has said, take care of yourself Aron and wishing you all the best.
-
All the best wishes to you Aron.
Don't worry, by the time we replace CoA it might be 2055 indeed and discussing whether the playerbase is reducing… (while the server still hits those steady 20ish people on in evenings)
-
Take care Aron best of luck to you. Hope you get better soon

Thanks everyone!
Didn't mean to hijack the thread though. Sorry
