Character diary, or personal blog for stories
-
So I like to write. A lot. Sometimes what I write about characters I'm playing, is not stuff that actually happened in game.
Should this not be posted in the character diary?
I'm not sure what the preference is.
I write for me, so I am going to write stuff anyways, but I can put it somewhere else. The only reason for putting it in the character diary or similar is to share with people on the server, other pc's, the dm's, etc.Potentially I could link off-site if people were interested in reading more, and flag posts as sort of… not based on ig events/logging, etc.

The diary section is your PC's in character journal. It should or can include his personal thoughts and feelings about happenings he experiences IG.
-
If it were not for this, Id have had no where near as much fun as I have had here. It is a creative outlet, it is a record of what my characters have done, failed to do, IG relationships, or non relationships, mental breakdowns and recoveries...
If not for this I'd not be the pathetic spammer I am today;-)
I have trid to keep each diferent diary in a diferent voice, not sure if I have succeded, but. the diary is for what your cureent CHARACTER is feeling, pursing etc.

Your Character diary is the thoughts and events of your Character. It is a personal record of things that happen IG. You can, of course, include back story, some history of your character before they arrived in Arabel, but the focus should be on things that happen IG.
If you want to keep a "blog", however, the Arabel Diaries is not the place to do it.

From the Arabel Diaries forum itself where this question is answered.
This forum is intended to capture roleplay that actually happened in game. Background information, embellishment of solo interactions with NPCs in game, and thought of the character are ok. Events that didn't happen in game, or after-the-fact justifications to events in game are not acceptable. We intend to use the information in these diaries as basis for DM quests, so we are going to be very annoyed if we set up something only to find that a story is just a product of a player's imagination.
I hope we shape up in v3.0.

very clear, thank you.
is it ok if i link 'fabrications' etc on offline writing blogs or such? if so, how should i flag them, so people know they are embellishments, and not like ig cannon, etc?Has anyone else done something similar before? Linking prose about characters that didn't happen in game to the story for more flavour or what have you?
-
No. dont link to real world things in an IC (thats in character, not, somehow on the internet while in a fantasy world which doesnt include computing, microchips, or many other forms of technology)
It is IN CHARACTER. That's all that should be there.
-
Only embellishment should be back stories and still be FR related IMO.
-
EmbelliShments that I have done have been very much reaction to ic events. Sczarne for instance was a very broken person, envisioned as a person with MPS, it probably would have stayed background if not for ig events that broke him out of his head.
-
yes, for clarity i meant 'stories' about the character that didn't happen IG, that I just made up.
So I removed one that I had in a characters diary, but there are a number of shorter ones that are kind of like interactions between different characters i have (which will never happen IG, since I can only play one character at a time, etc. Partly do this so as not to 'misuse' another person's character, etc.)
I think I've linked songs on youtube or memes a couple of times in blogs posts behind spoiler tags… it sounds like zool is saying that is a no go?
So I shouldn't link to prose about coa characters in FR that -didn't actually happen- to my character diary, then?
(Is this what you are saying, Zool?) -
Just read this link. The diary is for discussing IC interactions. It is not for memes, youtube songs, made up stuff.

Also, if you want to think about what your characters might say to each other if they ever met, then we are not the thought police, you can think about it all you like, but, it would be best not to write that stuff down in your IC diary. For one thing, they didn't happen IC, for another thing, it could turn into you discussing said conversations with other characters in game, mentioning names of your other characters. Dont do this. You should treat your various characters as essentially living in some kind of parallel universe to each other so that things don't get mixed up, otherwise very awkward situations can arise.

Bold and underlined added by me to emphasize. Please follow the rules.

so just to repeat my question again:
Would it be ok to flag an external link posted in the character diary as prose (STORY) related to the character that is not IG event or activity, etc? -
You really like to find loopholes. No Probably not bro. Don't post stuff there unless it happens IC or is your PC's thought about happens IC.
-
People still seem confused about what I am asking.
to put a link, to a separate site and page, not affiliated with coa or the forums whatsover,
with fictional writings on that character, etc, based on and in the setting.Which i could potentially make a link to in a spoiler, with a notice that this is out of game material and story.
Is there a problem with doing this?
DM's in particular I'm interested in hearing from on this. -
it seems like i keep getting knee jerk reactions from everyone who is replying, seemingly terrified I will somehow post or link to political commentary,
and thus, people making long, complicated answers
without seeming to really read the posts I made in the first place. If you don't want me on this game or posting in this forum because you don't like my political views,
why don't you just say so?
(Granted, you wouldn't know what they are, since I have not shared them with any of you anywhere in the forums, irc, or IG, without things getting deleted or censored, or getting banned, etc.)My intentions at this point, are if someone wants to talk about political things, we will take it outside of the game, irc channel, or forum, and at this point, the rest is none of your business.
If other people are doing the exact same thing with impunity, I will satisfy myself with thinking horrible, horrible thoughts about you and your hypocrisy and tell people what horrible people you are privately.
But otherwise you probably won't know.Is this clear enough?
-
I don't think that is what anyone is saying. Just keep what you post in the Diaries to what happens IC. No need to be posting links to OOC stuff that has no correlation to what's happening ICly to your PC.

without seeming to really read the posts I made in the first place.Dude, it isnt that you arent welcome here. But in some cases, it may come of as if you are trying too hard. CoA, Arabel is a sanctuary, where we, as people can come to get away from whatever is happening in our every day lives. It is a place we can use our creativity to entertain ourselves and others. And some of that peace of mind, is found within a specific set of rules, that all must adhere to. The rules are there to ensure we have fun, and to seperate what happens out of the game, with what happens in the game.
Your characters and contributions to the community, by doing all sorts of fun IG, is more than welcome. But I studied Marketing and Sustainable Business Development at the University. Whenever you start dragging that stuff into the game, talking about sustainable growth with druids, or bringing all sorts of semi political view points into the game, you can very quickly polude the sanctuary, as the lines between The Real World, and Arabel become blurred. Arabel is what it is. It has existed in almost 12 years. It will welcome you, if you let it. But, dont drag too much of the real world into the fake world. It will ruin the illusion that we can escape for a bit, and we have a good game of pretend going on.
As to the subject matter of this specific topic. You wont need external links, because most wont read them. But follow the rules posted about diaries, and we can gain insights into the mind of your character, which can be fun.

You can write your hot fanfics, we're not cops. Just post it in a subforum where it's relevant, Maikeru.
That is to say; Not diaries because those are IC and that would be confusing.
