Littering undead
-
For the people who are using the .staydead command to leave undead lying around.
I know the whole point of leaving them laying around is for them to be a threat (which is totally fine and I dare say even cool/fun), but I've had it happen four times already that by the time I finished transisting into an area some undead has already been going at it on my character for two rounds before I could react. They're not being left on the transitions themselves but they're being left within close visual range and by the time I (or other people who load slowly) enter the area, said undead has already run over and started wailing at me.
Now I'm fine, but for a level 3 character to get attacked on a transition like that, not cool.
Whether these are being treated as pve or pvp, dm's try to avoid setting spawnpoints near transitions just as much as people avoid FDing people the very same second they pop out of a transition with no warning what so ever, so please try treating the animated undead the same way.Just a friendly reminder to have some consideration where exactly you're leaving what please, thanks.

So its not against the rules to just leave these things around, anyone able to tell me how that is any different from just leaving traps lying about?
-
I don't think it's against the rules to leave traps about either, it's just that you can't leave them on transitions.
-
I think it's there to add flavor to a groups role play rather than to lame others, just do as Cheshire asks just leave them away from the transitions and it's not a big issue.
Trap are slightly different as you can't fight or run from them you just stand on one and die.I don't think it's against the rules to leave traps about either, it's just that you can't leave them on transitions.
Pretty sure it is massively frowned upon.
-
Obviously frowned upon if you do it for no purpose at all, but for example, I used to leave traps in certain place to guard certain stuff I left there to wait for a certain person to come and pick them up - which is a fair use I reckon.
Just wanted to point out that it is not actually against rules, and there are various situations where leaving traps behind is fair. Also, like protecting that hallway that you went through, to guard your secret meeting. Or claiming territory. Or a warning. Or a trap when you lay in ambush nearby >.>
-
Leaving them at visual range of spawnpoints or transitions is not cool.
Just saying as someone who leaves them behind. Was told that one of mine had wandered to a point where it was near a transition/spawn, but I think that was from someone already running from it etc.In any case, members of my group or individual players; please please leave them in places where they can't see people who are still blind because of the screen loading.
-
Anyone who leaves undead near a transition is being silly. Anyone who lures undead to a transition equally so if they don't ask a dm to move them or get a party to kill it.
[[Edited to not be abusive.]]

Lets not get abusive.
Leaving them on transitions is indeed, against server policy, same with traps. Leave them in a big thematic room with some loot related to your story on them, and a message for the heroes who destroy them.
-
Also, if you don't know how to unsummon them…
Just use the PC mode switch on them. -
Or tap the rest button, or just remove them from your party without using the .staydead command.

If I recall, removing them from your party turns them hostile towards everyone, including you.
Also, I'm fairly sure that if you set them to "stand still" and then remove them from party, they stay hostile, but do not move until attacked. Useful if you mean to leave them as "guards". -
If they aren't set to .staydead they will disappear the same round you removed them from your party.
-
Tomppa is correct here.

I haven't played a necromancer in awhile but I know sometimes it isn't their fault. if a player gets chased by undead and runs into a transition, the undead will be left on that transition. Just food for thought

Do this or it is something I'd almost frown on. Its no different than randomly leaving traps around to kill random players.
NO one is going to have fun if you do this and aren't making it interesting.

Gotta remember, these are areas with level 1-5 and 1-4 quests in them, a lowbie enters these areas expecting some sort of risk, but when 3 skeletal fighters rush them and cut them down out of nowhere it's not exactly a pleasant experience for the victim, and since the necromancer wasn't around to see it happening either I'll assume it wasn't pleasant for him either.
If the justification that it's pvp so levels don't matter is being made you have to consider that in pvp you also don't fd random people without any rp or conflict either.
Yesterday night I was giving a level 3 character a tour of the area and showing him around the sewers as well, three Skeletal Fighters rushed around the corner and took him to -5 hp in a single round, I could only manage to get them to fight me instead, he miraculously recovered (guy's lucky like that), if this was a group of level 3's or 4's odds are 1 or 2 would have gotten fugued for no real discernible reason, maybe ragequit as well.

saw multiple player bodies made into undead and then left to rot a few hours ago. if all this is from the ones I think it is , they seem to not care how their play affects others. they ride the razors edge of the rules and will until they are sat down with a DM and told they are way past the envelope.
-
it's only a problem if they are on transitions.
-
Ive seen greater wererats spawn in the sewers more than once, if your giving people tours of the place you should go expecting something.
-
Ive suffered two deaths with Merry, one was an accident, I'm sure, brought on by Merry being a twit :-)
The other was to a skeletal warrior left out at the bridge to the wilds. Merry was going fishing.
I did not even think to say "what the hells?" just respawned and chalked it up to experience.
