Nooby question

So my old laptop carked it, but I managed to save the hard drive… is it completely stupid to copy all the nwn folders onto my new computer or should I actually properly install the game so it doesn't eff everything up?
I have to write the draft for my honours thesis in four-ish weeks so yeah thought maybe I should rejoin coa instead.
-
Me personally I would reinstall it.
-
I would copy it over first, and see if it works, it will save you a LOT of time if it does, and it often does.
-
Yeah I steamrolled ahead and cut-copy-pasted because i'm too lazy to get out of bed and find the cd case…
-
a copy of the old nwn in its folder should work, it will need to redo settings and stuff
i always keep a copy of my game on a large usb key for that very reason, it is easier to copy across than it is to dig up all your old disks (if you still have them) and then redo every single patch and hak
and if you do your backups to the key, you will also have all the in game journal entries as well as scrennies you may have taken up to the time the backup was made

there may be an issues with windows registry entries. running it might solve that, though. or running the config wizard.
but most important things, like your cd keys, should be saved if you copy over…
-
i mean the file where the keys are copied should be there, you may need to extract the keys and reenter them to get them put in the registry…
-
Copy paste works perfectly fine.
-
Indeed, no need to re-enter your keys, there is a .ini file the holds them. Copy paste the entire NWN folder and you are golden
