Hello hello!

Hi everyone! I'm the new kid on the block, figured I'd stop by and introduce myself briefly.
Heard about this server from a friend of a friend (dat social networking) and decided to give it a shot, the forum seemed to have it's shit together (pardon my french, and overuse of parentheses ": I think it's "parenthetical demarcation marks" ") so I hopped on the irc, everyone seemed nice in a passive aggressive kind of way and I'ma give this server a go. :D
As for introductions, I've been playing d&d on and off for quite some time, I took various mathematics and statistics courses at university and thankfully ended up landing a career making games instead of counting tax dollars, if I start rambling about game mechanics please tell me to stop it's a nasty side effect of my line of work.
Looking forward to seeing you all in game, cheers.

I'd be interested in hearing your input on any game mechanics that aren't just part of the game engine, and something we have created, and can therefore improve, actually :)
-
Those monk styles and fighter kits caught my eye already actually (they look fun), I'll be sure to throw some feedback your way after I get the chance to tinker with em a bit :)

Welcome. I'll send you a list of recommendations you will make to help my character. :)

living arcanis developer/ mod writer? living city?
don't want to spoil any surprises.
I'm pretty sure there are some forum posts about mechanics changes etc.
some of them may be explained when you are in the 'starting area' customizing your character; like selecting languages, crafting skills, etc. also, additional game functions were added with 'dot command' scripts that you would essentially type, after a "." , in the chat window in normal talk mode i think… there is a forum posts on this as well, well worth looking into to see some game mechanics changes, including being able to subdue npc's, escape from being tied up, put poison on things, speak as if you were your animal companion/familiar, and the crafting system uses this as well...
i think there is also a portal system, but i don't think non-dm's are supposed to try and use the dot commands heheheh
there are some really good... storyline summaries a few places...
including for the 'reboot' to v5 of city of arabel which happened near the new year...puffy might know that post?
lizard i think was in charge of sort of the historical archives...yeah anyways, a couple useful threads are like 'rumours around town' or something, and like 'announcements of the city' to get an idea of stuff that is kind of happening/ going... some of the book sellers may have some kind of arabel city newspaper type thing that was player run with certain characters but is not currently active (but seems like a good idea to me)
oh, there are ways to log your game by saving the log files, and there are ways to see past 'sendings' by other players that were for like work or important in game notices ... you can see the 'last 5' by typing .history command
there are all sorts of die rolling and emote commands as well, some of them tie mostly back into the main emote system, but if you type certain emotes like " tries to force open the cage with brute strength " (between the stars is the emote) the system will try to either make you emote something, and or make die rolls... and their are commands that make your die rolls either like public or secret or whatever, etc... also dot commands... in summary, look at the dot commands lol
k rambling. bye.

there's a whole bunch of rules/ faq about roleplaying/ metagaming etc too, which are more like play style directives, that aren't directly game mechanics but that are sometimes meant to help compensate for problems in game mechanics which are kind of important to playing on the server too…
i think they have these stickied somewhere, forgive my memory. and not linking things. its just more work than i'm willing to do at 2:30am ...

Haha, thanks for the warm welcome and tips guys. I've just gotten my hands on a new laptop and while I spent the time waiting for all the new bells and whistles to instal and download I've been reading over the mechanics changes and roleplaying/playing rules of the server I could find in the forums.
Also I've been thinking over what I'd like to play for a while, and asking around on irc what's going on plotwise nowadays, I've got a good idea of what I'll be playing for now and all the help was appreciated. As for Zool I'd be delighted to give you my opinion on the servers game mechanics once I get a good look at the changes in action. :)
You'll probably see me in game starting this afternoon (gmt -5) looking forward to it.
