Olouth's vision of how to save the server
-
@Leaders:
I think the point people are trying make by saying merging efu and coa together is that the playerbase is thin, and it would be cool if we were all just in the same playground. Personally, I would love to see some collaboration between the two servers, though what that would exactly mean would take months of discussion between the respective dms to decide on.
.
I don't know HOW it was done, but I used to play on a server that actually had 3 separate servers connected via portals. It was an action server, and it was fun for what is was. Perhaps something like this that would Merge the worlds? I've never been to the EFU server, and I am having too much fun here, now, to look into it. But, if there were maybe an occasional DM run quest into the other world , say for an extremely rare and powerful weapon to put all undead to rest, for a while, via a portal connection it may be a way of increasing the player base in general? It could also be something that House Hardcastle would love– considering the possible trade between 2 worlds....Also, if this is done, make a death in the other world permanent, non re-spawnable in your home world, unless you come back in a second dm event connecting the worlds?
Heh, just the thought of all new quests to RP through, not knowing where or what may spawn around the corner, sounds like fun. In this way, we'd have accomplished two completely different goals at the same time, and those of us who dont know ooc will be on equall footing with those that do.
keep CoA pristine and the way it is, and combine the two servers at the same time.
-
Those servers were designed to work like that, and didn't have entirely disparate loot, crafting, quest, database (the list goes on and on and on) systems, so that is how it is possible. The same just cannot be done with CoA and EFU, even if both teams wanted it (And it hasn't even been discussed to my knowledge)
So…
Well just no, merging is impossible.
-
Server is empty because school/college is back and GTAV is out on the market, IMO.
Cheers.

I think Merge Arabel with EFU not good idea.. personaly i think we..or you or the peoples who decide…shoud look what good in EFU AND in other populars RP persistent worlds NWN servers too.
I concidere my self as a Hardcore rp Player. If i play on Arabel it becose it hard to survive, becose the Pvp is..( well .. less now) deadly, becose there a big death exp lost when we die..becose it (again..less now) hard to get golds.,and becose there scrypted quest push the player to play in group.
But if i think of a good RP server..in my mind..one of the best is Arelith. IT one of the more popular server.. there always 40 players if we cont the 3 Arelith servers linked by many ways in the game for you can travle between each of them ( Cordor/surface/underdark). If i think of mechanical Tools helping to represent the RP and is influances on your character and to the world.. Compar of Arelith, Arabel is at the stone age ...
On Arelith, you have a % of rest, drink, eat and sobriety, and a % of you faith for your god if you have one.. thos % can be affected when ..you eat, rest..etc... and prays, you can build a Altar put it where you wish(a safe IC place) and use it for prays and it incress your % of faith, if you are a priest you can consacrate the altar to your god and the % incress when peoples of this god use this altar for prays..
you can creat postsine, post board and put it somewhere.. and peoples will be able to put some letter one..and read it..etc..aneways there many others tools.. so at the end of the days, you can get a home, a permanent shop, become cityzen of a town(faction) vote for a leader of this town(faction) , start elections, become leader, incress the taxe(influance the market), make diplomatie with other towns( factions), start war, put peoples in your jail, organise expedition and use the town golds ressours , find ressours in the wild( Ores, wood, leather, foood etc...for crafting). Thos ressours are some time a reason for conflicts between factions.. some ressours are on some factions terittory..etc...
They also have autom exp per ..10 minutes i think for the RP..depend of you role play ranking ( 0-30), you also can choos to have the mark of the destiny.. give you only 10 lifes befor you loost permanently your character but you do 20 exp more each time the server give is automat EXP...You can do all this whitout any DMS assistances or even you never talk to them or read or post something on the forum.
So if there favoritisme ..it only DMS who play with them fav players when they are online and that all and it logical to play with the peoples you like to play…. ..But it not unbalance the rest of the world and it not change the wolrd only becose sudently, at this specifitic moment for many reasons, there a DM who are ready to help some player to do it or think this player can have this or that.....or becose the peoples write about it on the forum and decide it when they creat them character.a Exemple of that ? i heard there orcs in Hullack who find elven dead body and use it for creat undeads…. My character is patroling constently in Hullack(all the Hullack maps) .. there no other players who go in hullack so deep... and i never met no one there.. and i never see orcs of find elven deads bodys.. so in fact there no orcs using elven dead body for creat undeads.. exept on the forum..or when Dms are online and decide too...
But Arelith is aesy and magic item creation is to powerful.there no scrypted quest, peoples dosent realy need others for ''hunt'' .the PVP is not good(you can not lost your stuff) and the lost exp when you die is ridiculously low ..

This was something I really liked about Arelith; the players made the server come alive on its own without the assistance of DMs. There were actually very few DM run "plots" on Arelith like we have here rather they would just pick up on what players were doing and go with that. It was the opposite of CoA and I think really helped the feeling that players were driving the server versus the DMs. On the downside there was very little PvP and the magic level was wayyy to high. But a more sandbox CoA instead of a themepark would be much more preferable in my opinion.

We're not becoming Arelith.
My personal opinion of that place is very different to yours.
-
Dond makes me smile.
-
We're not becoming Arelith.
My personal opinion of that place is very different to yours.
Nor was I suggesting we do, its way too carebear for my taste. But what I wouldn't mind seeing is a more player driven setting that relies less on DM involvement.

(As a side question) Is lifting the bans of all ousted players a good idea?
I know people that would return.
-
Doesn't hurt to ask to return. Still the chance of happening is close to zero.
-
On the other hand, if those people did something to earn a permanent ban, do we want them back?
-
I'd look into the ban. I was banned long time ago because a certain DM hated my guts.
-
CitizenBane,
On a quick search at the DM forums, you were banned for breaking server rules (if you can't remember, I can PM you all of it). We ban people because they violate server rules. Please, refrain from posting poisonous remarks such as that - it doesn't help any discussion.
Cheers.
-
It wasn't a poisonous remark, depending on the dm, back then hating your guts equated to "breaking the server rules"
I say that mainly because I've known people who broke them regularly and didn't get in any trouble. There's no harm in looking into the reason why someone was banned, worst case scenario you learn something you didn't know. Accusing someone of making poisonous remarks when he's giving harmless advice is no less poisonous to the conversation.
As for the subject, I don't think lifting all bans is a good idea, but I'm sure it'd be worth it to revisit a few of them if we know the player would like to come back.
-
Thanks for all feedback but we have never asked for opinions concerning how we handle banned users or not. Policy is clear. If a DM told you its poisonous its because it is and if we ask to stop, we are not opening a discussion about it - we're stating thats the sort of stuff we dont want people to do and you should not do it.
Cheers.

Slippers,
Before speaking your mind I ask you to go through the entire topic, since you have just joined it now for a reason completely far from its true purpose. Better off, not just the topic, check the Player Suggestion forum as well, and over hundreds of similar topics created by players before, as you seem to be unfamiliar with our work. As a team we fail to see as Polite Discourse or Constructive Feedback when the matter is: "DM hates my ass thats why I was __________". That's not feedback, thats you being silly. That said, we don't want that. If thats the sort of opinion or idea of a suggestion you want to give us, then please, do it privately, keep it to yourself or leave the server.
Cheers.

When I read CB's post, all I saw was "lets relook at things, everyone deserves a second chance, I did."
When I read your post, all I saw was "how dare you imply that dm's are human, I have here a big list of incriminating evidence to rub into your face in a public forum. Now I will ask you to stop being rude to people in said public forums because that's just poisonous."I'm sorry diablo but having read through the topic all I saw was one person giving valid advice, to then get talked down to by you. Poisonous behavior is no cure for poisonous behavior, authority or not. Players are only going to give their opinion on dming when a dm comes into a topic to shit on someone like you just did, so lets please get back to the original subject instead of arguing about who's in the right?
-
AbsoluteZero,
I find really disturbing the fact that you have built an entire argument over an impression you had without even approaching me to discuss it personally. The proper approach to that would have been a PM to myself so you could state whatever was on your mind based on your interpretation of my post. I ask you that next time you do that in order to avoid this exchange and saving not only your time but ours.
Slippers,
"You don't need to shoot down the idea just because you think your position elevates you above the people you serve and it's not how things have been done in the past." - This is the main reason why I think you should leave the server. Not only you have the wrong mindset concerning this DM team, but you don't deal with facts. The only thing you want to do is stir conflict but sadly we're not in game. An example of your good intentios was the fact that the first thing you did after posting your first remark on this topic was to boast on IRC stating "fuck the police" as an ending phrase. Not only that, but looking at your past with the server you have more than once acted like a douche to other players, DMs and only fomenting what we consider as poisonous behavior you seem to claim it come from us. You are exactly the type of player we don't want on the server, not because we hate you, its because your atitude sucks and you think you are too cool to change or try to reason with us in a proper manner.
If any of you have further inquiries concerning this, approach me on IRC or PM. Topic is closed.
Cheers.

I actually have looked at bans every now and then, of people who ask to re-join the server, as have a lot of the team at times. We spend time discussing it as well. Normally the DMs involved in the original ban will post their thoughts, which normally hold the most weight in the discussion, but have in the past been gone against. We normally put it to a vote at that point though. We have unbanned quite a lot of players over time, one example has been stated already, and that was a good decision. We like second chances, once it starts getting towards fifth sixth and seventh it starts to get a bit shady though!
There have been times in the past (the long past, probably before I even begun here as a player) where bans were probably not handled that well. Since then the team put in a lot of effort to self regulate, even removing (often highly active and productive) DMs from the team under circumstances where things like favouritism, the opposite, or even cheating (it has happened in the past), have come into play.
If the players who would come back get in contact with us, we can look over their ban situations, but there will be no promises on un-banning people, especially when the player in question has, multiple times, done things which are in no uncertain terms a detriment to the server.
I hope that clears some things up, feel free to ask more, we do want to be more transparent about how things work, you do have to understand there is only so far you can go with that without possibly causing even more offence however.
Thanks peeps.

Also, some really cool ideas in this thread, which the team has been discussing (along with the other recent similar threads) its certainly possible some of the ideas may be implemented in some fashion or another in the future.
