CoA Advertisement Flyer: Final Version [DMs, Players]
-
Main thing I dislike about this is all the implications of CoA being a bad product! :(
-
I quite like the flyer Knightmare.
Post em around.
Just because you currently dont like CoA Olouth doesnt mean other people wont like it, and they cant try it if they dont know about it, and people may try it if they know about it
-
I keep forgetting that sometimes things meant to lighten a mood sometimes make things worse.
No aggression was meant, an i apologize if offense was given.
I found Arabel completely by accident and am hanging around because I've found it to be fun.
I cant see that advertising would be bad :-)
If I can, Ill post the flyer on my face book page, not that it will help alot, but someone may see it there .
-
If anyone wants to share the first flyer or Knightmare's, go for it.
-
If CoA is a bad product we 're all a bunch of massochists…
Just saying...

@O'louth:
Not to be an ass, but with a Master of Science in Branding and Marketing, I can tell you one thing already:
All advertisement can do for a lousy product, is to kill it off faster.
Fix the server, then begin advertising.
Olouth, if it's such a "lousy product" why do you keep playing? You app, you play, you complain, you quit. Rinse and repeat. I dont get it.
I will tell you like I told someone in IRC the other night: If you hate it so much, find some place else to play, because criticizing and just saying "fix it" without offering constructive advice on how to fix it, is not beneficial to anyone here. You guys keep shouting for a WIPE! but then what? Offer a solution.
As for the advertisements, they both look good to me. And Loony did a fantastic job drawing the background.
I'm not intending to come across as hateful, so please dont assume I am. I'm just baffled at the masochism of it all. viruzz83 was right.

Server has seen better days, it is ten years old after all. Anyways, lets try and stay on topic.

R.I.P.

@O'louth:
My Lifetime Acheivement Experience Credits in Consumerism tell me AbsoluteZero's is right on.
I've rarely sought something I did not know exists. How many times did you purchase a bag of apples, find all of them rotten, and immediately go out to buy a new bag from the same brand?
Guy a) Puts rotten apples up for sale, 100 customers go by, 8 buy the product, 6 of them are dissatisfied the other 2 didn't really notice.
Guy b) Doesn't put up anything for sale, 100 customers go by, he wasn't there, 0 people buy the product, 0 people were repeat customers.I'd expect better from someone with a Masters….in anything really.
Your statement is false AZ, with all due respect. Your imaginary example, that goes for Games' as well, deals with a thought up example, of a one time purchase. The hope of any salesman is not to sell his product once, as that will make the potential number of customers fixed, but to gain repeat customers. Your example should be of a store. If you have a bad experience in a store, you WONT return to buy products in it again, especially if you can find another store with Little to no effort.
I do not care if you disagree with me or not, as that does not change the truth in my statement. That said, the issue that should be discussed, is whether CoA currently is at a state in which people testing it out will stay. I dont think it is. That said, I very much believe it CAN be. But the attitudes within our community is toxic. If I logged unto IRC these days, saw the discussions there, I wouldnt stay. If I logged unto the forum, looked around, I would find it filled with bitching, and the IC parts, as well as the Appreciation threads are lacking.
As to your response Maureen, I stay because I still hope we can turn things around. And unlike your rather rude and false statements about my actions, I -do- try to make suggestions which I believe will better the server. Perhaps not enough.
But the truth is that especially amongst our playerbase in the mornings + afternoons, GTM, are disappearing. We can only offer DM coverage to late night GTM players (Afternoon + Evening US times), and that not nearly every night. Our peak times have in 6 months gone from in the 30s to in the 10s if we are lucky. You can all Brown nose and hate me for stating it all you want. You can even turn your frustrations into a bitch fest against me, for speaking out loud. But our server, player base and community is going down the drain. People talk of dm solutions, and that said solutions do not come in a day. Thats fine. Yet if changes arent made, then I highly doubt we can hope for anything except if Lucky keep the status quo.

Olouth, words can not begin to describe how hypocritical the post you just made was.
"Your statement is false AZ, with all due respect. Your imaginary example, that goes for Games' as well, deals with a thought up example, of a one time purchase." I guess you didn't notice but the rotten apples example was (YOUR) example, if you're not even paying attention to what you're saying how can you contribute to the discussion?
"That said, the issue that should be discussed, is whether CoA currently is at a state in which people testing it out will stay." The fact that everyone playing coa currently is "testing it" and is "staying" kindof answers that statement, so….yes.
"But the attitudes within our community is toxic." Tell me about it, people can't even make an advertisement poster without someone insulting their efforts and not providing any help in return -aka, if you're not part of the solution Olouth you're part of the problem-"And unlike your rather rude and false statements about my actions, I -do- try to make suggestions which I believe will better the server." Forgetting the hypocrisy in the fact that Maureen only said something "rude" to you because you were incredibly "rude" to Knightmare. I don't see how saying "This server sucks, fix it" is going to better the server.
"You can all Brown nose and hate me for stating it all you want. You can even turn your frustrations into a bitch fest against me, for speaking out loud." I'm sorry, do you even read what you write? You're bitching about a bitchfest (one you initiated by the by)…. You really need to give this a read.
As for everyone else, I'm sorry this topic was derailed so bad, posts like the one just above this one just really grind my gears…
-
I feel like I should lock this.
-
@O'louth:
But the attitudes within our community is toxic.
The irony…
-
Returning to the main subject, I think if people could post that flier on their facebook pages, it might just make the difference, there are many d&d groups in facebook such as "FansOfD20PFSRD" that have some potentially interested and bored roleplayers.
-
Guys, slow down!
Both olouth and AbsoluteZero are great and committed members of the server, no point in claiming anything else.
O'louth's style might not have been the best, but he didn't say anything bad to Knightmare in his original reply, he only said he thinks it is not the right time to advertise. What he says, actually makes sense, he can still be right or wrong, I have no idea, but it made sense. If the problem is low numbers, advertising alone can fix it. Raising the numbers might help on toxic attitude as well, you aren't likely to start off with evil comments when you speak with a new guy, are you?
If the main problem is toxic attitude, we should really speak about it. Without bitching, flaming, etc. Everyone looking for his own faults first before everyone else's.I think we should value O'louth's insight, even if given in the wrong form and style. With all the adults playing a ten years old game, we should probably be able to separate style from meaning and react separately for each.
And I honestly believe that we should read our comments again once finished typing, and check if we contribute to the toxic air, because we all have responsibility here. -
Also, both who tried to put a poster together asked for suggestions what to change. O'louth with his degree, and probably a noticeable portion of the playerbase could and should provide some useful advice. Hm?
-
Haha, that's all was asking! I think a poster just pointing people to IRC and the forums is enough. If I saw a flyer containing detailed download information and requirements, I'd almost certainly ignore it. I might even print some little "tear offs" with the forum website and IRC for people to take. We can walk them through that stuff in person.
Also, I think even given any problems the server may or may not be experiencing, new players can still have fun here. When I first came here, all I really did was quest and do bits of RP for a month or two, and I thought it was great as I'd never experienced anything like that before. No involvements in DM plots or metaplots or any plots. I didn't even know there were DMs for a while!
I think there is plenty here to keep a new player engaged.
-
Word of mouth, in my short renaissance with the server I have encouraged 2 other decent players to join from my wider gaming group. They loved it but got a bit lost (despite any advice I offered) with the clique thing.
I guess most people are holding off for V5. Even so you should always take any measures to spread the word/advertise. This is coming from a person who makes their living in the advertising industry.
No the server isn't perfect, but its pretty unique and offers something unparalleled to those of a similar mind to the player set.
-
I think writing there ARE actually DMs is a viable idea. I have no idea if I knew there were DMs, I knew it was possible, but I wouldn't expect it from any video game.
Like "commited and active DUNGEON MASTERS keep the game world alive and make almost any sort of story arc possible to play in a video game".
Tear offs are great idea too.
What about "level 2 tokens" with a code on them? Someone might decide to wait to try it, and never come back to the idea, but if they see this coupon works only NOW, they might actually come. :D
I know they are "exploitable", but honestly… level 2? I don't even think there needs to be a real system checking the codes, you catch a dm as a new player, and he basically gives you some free XP.
-
First expressions are paramount. If any of you think back to when you started playing, you will, just as I, likely come to the conclusion that it was the first few minutes to an hour that made you stay.
I always liked the idea of a "prologue" quest for new arrivals. One that would be a trip down memory lane, and would give a level or two when completed, as well as some better starting gear.
**_"Imagine entering a portal on the road to Arabel." You wake up in a dusty room, As you look around, you find yourself in a now abandoned War Wizard Headquarter. Tumbled chairs and tables meet you as you open the first door. You are drawn to a strange statue, live like. It takes a moment before you realize that the statue is acually a petrified man. As you near it still, the ghost of Pyatt Pree visualises before you. He tells you he was once a necromancer who plagued the region, but was eventually put to rest by brave adventurers, who brought him down, and he was petrified by the War Wizards.
He asks that you kill his ghost, so he can finally find rest. You continue, and find a chest, containing the journal of Clar Banda. It tells her story, briefly, and you must kill a skeleton, a remaining part of her soul.
You continue on like this, down through the 10 year CoA history. You find a shadovar armor, a talassan spear. You move down a corridor, and find a prison, containing the now long forgotten villians. You find a portal to the EO HQ, now destroyed. You find a Harper Pin, and a journal telling of the many times goodly adventurers stood against all odds and prevailed.
You find a Goldfeather armor case, with a note telling of the rebellion. You find Cassiel, telling how he helped Gondegal win, only to kill him after. You find an Unseen Hand thief, who tells how Bhaliir sought power, but was actually a beholder.
In the end, you enter through a door way, and come out the Mage Tower near the Adventurers Guild. As you try and walk back through the door, you find it locked. A "hooded figure" welcomes you to Arabel, hopes you will stay a while, and maybe one day your legacy will be held in that odd place. And he then vanishes._**
If we do that, then "you" have seen the best of what a Group of many 1000 players we have had through the years could offer. How we, through an ancient game, made it come alive in ways newer games never will. And you start, with a second lvl in the backpack.
If you can do something along those lines, and Work on how we as a community act currently, the advertisement will be backed by all the best we can offer. -
This is brilliant
